Times have been especially hard on the goliaths of Wyrmdoom Crag, and losing the
few hunters they have left to neogi slavers will certainly spell their doom. You must
delve into the ruins of an ancient city buried beneath the Spine of the World. What
secrets lay in the deep dark? Do they promise salvation or doom?
Part Seven of the Plague of Ancients Series of Adventures.

A Four-Hour Adventure for 5th through 10th-Level Characters
Optimized for APL 8.

Who thought that insta-kill chase is a good idea? Just imagine what players, whose characters can't move faster than 60 ft per turn, would feel?

And don't forget about the possibility of second exhaustion.

As per the Dungeon Master's Guide (p.252): "A chase participant can freely use the Dash action a number of times equal to 3 + its Constitution modifier." In this way, players can move further than 60 feet per turn. Players can use also inspiration to cancel a complication (players are awarded inspiration at the start of this module). However, I agree with you: insta-kill is a bad way to punish players for unlucky dice rolls they have no control over.

That sentence about Dashing is followed by "Each additional Dash action it takes during the chase requires the creature to succeed on a DC 10 Constitution check at the end of its turn or gain one level of exhaustion." Which is pretty important.

They aren't saying you can use the dash action any number of times in a single turn, they are contrasting "freely" with "must pass a Con Sv.". And even if they were allowing any number of uses in a turn, the chaser could do the same, possibly moving further based simply on having a higher Con stat?

Appreciate the heads up on this chase being lack luster though, I'll have to put some thought into improving it. Just ran the 2nd (3rd if you count the epic) RMH module, which also has a somewhat lacking chase to conclude it.

Ran this at Druids and Dragons Con this past week. LOVED the sandbox-style setting that allowed me to spin a tale my players will not soon forget. Players commented it was their favorite came of the weekend.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
