Ythryn Expanded Towers of Magic Bundle - maps and extra content for Rime of the Frostmaiden

Title

The ancient floating Netherese City of Ythryn had eight magical towers, one for each school of magic. Now the towers, along with the city, lie trapped in a frozen tomb. The wizards of this great city are either long dead or have lost their minds to madness. Yet the towers still hold powerful magic waiting to be tapped.

This supplement contains EIGHT expansions to the locations in Ythryn with the following objectives:

  • Expand on the Eight Arcane Towers, making each one its own mini-dungeon adventure with exciting challenges and clear direction for the DM.
  • Provide Detailed Maps, for an immersive experience in person or on a virtual tabletop, rather than a brief 'theatre-of-mind' scene.
These supplements present the events that occur in the eight towers of magic as an alternates to those described in Chapter 7: Doom of Ythryn in Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. As always, it is up to you how much of the content you want to use. It's perfectly fine to use some parts of this supplement while discarding others, or simply let the ideas presented here inspire new ideas of your own. These supplements assume a party of 4–6 characters of 9–11th level.

FAQ

I've already purchased one or more of the products in this bundle – do I still have to pay full price for the bundle?

Nope! I have created another bundle that contains the adventures I have published for Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. The content in these two bundles is identical, except for how the files are organized, as we can zip and ship them as one in this bundle. Beyond that, you're getting exactly the same content at exactly the same price – so if you have already purchased one or more of these products, go ahead and buy the other bundle and that product should be deducted from the price! :)

I cannot overstate how amazing these towers have been. I am running Ythryn now for my group and they are loving them so much. The combination of puzzles, danger, magic and discovery and how it is woven seamlessly into the background story is really top notch. Thanks again for this amazing supplement!

Just finished DMing Frostmaiden. I used these towers to flesh out Ythryn and my party loved them, particularly the one where they acted out the play. Well designed puzzles. Really improved on Ythryn as written.

Just wanted to say thanks for this! I am running this AP, and I thought the lack of effort put into the city was sad. These maps and extra content bring the city to (un)life. Well worth the price.

Heya I have just bought this and thought I would say looks really good so far; a question I have is I am adding these towers into my Homebrew world for my campaign and just wondered; do you have a recommended party level / order for each tower or is it just to my discrepancy? Thank you!

Hey there John,
Recommended average party level is 9 to 11. You can probably tweak a few towers to extend that range. The only ordering that I recommend is to do Necromancy before Enchantment if you can guide your party that way. Otherwise it can be a sandbox. If you plan to control the order then maybe split up the towers so that don’t have combat focused ones back to back. I recommend sticking conjuration somewhere in the middle to give your party a safe place to long rest. Excited to hear you’re bringing this into a homebrew campaign!

This looks really amazing. Perhaps because I am running through Rime atm and about to hit Ythryn. Unfortunately I live in the middle of nowhere so play exclusively on FG. Have you thought about having these converted for FG? If so I would love to take these on. I work as a freelancer for the Grim Press FG conversion team. If you wanted to know more https://discord.gg/6yrQTbHmCt is a link to our discord. You can find any of the team on there. My name on discord is Blokka, but any of the conversion team can help :)

Possibly a stupid question.

But is it possible to use the towers without Icewind Dale?

**Spoiler Warning**

The premise is that there is an ancient magical ruined city with a tower for each school of magic - each with something in it that the party needs in order to get to the boss's lair. The book Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden has the boss's lair, the story, and additional (although mostly non-essential) locations within the city. If you can fill those things in yourself, then I think the Towers of Magic can totally fit into a home-brew campaign. At the very least, the towers have lots of cool magic-school-themed challenges and tricks that you can re-skin to fill out some mad wizard tower or subterranean dungeon. :-)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
