Enta Spinwhistle's Guide to Sharn

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Enta Spinwhistle, the spunky Gnomish reporter for The Breland Voice, is in fact a researcher for the Zil Trust. She spent four years intensively researching and mapping the Lower and Middle Wards of Sharn, and the uppermost levels of The Depths. Her report is a series of highly detailed maps of Sharn at 1:5000 scale, with descriptions of locations not found in other published works.

Pietro Calogero teaches Urban Studies and Planning at San Francisco State University. He has also worked periodically for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on urban policy. His research focuses on housing, urban informality, and contemporary empire.

First, just wanted to say that this is fantastic. Really happy with the purchase and you're doing a great service maintaining it.

Only request is that you provide a version of the PDF vector maps without labels, so that they can be added manually in VTTs?

I would love this also. These maps are so amazing and the details are so good but I'd love a way to make it so when I add my own markers they don't stand out.

Great product. Exactly what I was looking for. Only draw back the Middle Ward overview ma and the Lower Ward Overview map are identical. Looks like an editing issue that the author will fix soon. Otherwise, superb map and excellent resource for a Sharn based campaign.

I am updating the Guide to Sharn again. 2 questions: (1) I did an update in April 2021, in which I added a massive .zip file of PDFs. Did you get that notice, and do you have access to that .zip file as a purchaser of the Guide? (2) Does the cover say 2nd Edition on it?

OMG! This is what I've been looking for, for years! I'm still apprehensive about buying it only because I noticed in the Quick Preview that actual maps themselves don't have any points of interests.

p32 Middle Wards has same district labels as p20 Lower Wards - I think it is the same map duplicated?

I am so sorry! End-of-semester and I had to learn Roll20 to run one of the climactic fights in my campaign! Will get to it soon...

An amazing addition to my campaign. Makes my life so much easier when I DM and can lead my party around to the appropriate areas of sharn. One thing I'd love is a key for the map icons. It seems they can represent different items and a consistent key for each building type would be a great addition.

Simply amazing work! Could you include the maps as jpg or png? They'd make great handouts when playing in Sharn! ^^

In the Second Edition, I will add a zipped bundle of PDFs for each map, so they can print sharp at any size. Hopefully will issue this coming weekend.

That sounds good! I was thinking for use in vtt:s and the like, but I should be able to extract the images from a pdf! ^^

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
