Houses of Waterdeep: Amcathra, Emveolstone, Phylund, and Rosznar

ADD TO WISHLIST >

If you've read page 13 of Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, you've seen the spark the writers give you for a character being a member of one of Waterdeep's grand noble families....but then they tell you next to nothing about those families. This pub is an attempt to solve that problem.

Written for players, dungeon masters and game designers, this document is designed to provide both historical and current details on Houses Amcathra, Phylund, and Rosznar. If you’re a player who chose the noble background for your character, a Dungeon Master looking for additional flavor for your players, or a game designer wanting to add any of these houses into your campaign, this is intended to be a resource for everyone. It also serves as a valuable resource for the entire party if they have a House as a group patron. This document also serves as a compliment to both Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage. It includes:

House Amcathra

  • Family history and notable historical members (all from canon).
  • Maps and details for the estate house and smithy in Waterdeep, family ranch in Undercliff, and family ranch in Amphail (27 images).
  • State of the current House including current head of the house, faction relationships, family rivals, and benefits for being a family member.
  • Details, statblock, and DDB link for the Amphail gray riding horse.
  • Full size PNG files of the family crest and family seal.
  • Rules for the House to serve as a Group Patron for non-family members.
  • Amcathra signet ring for a character with D&D Beyond link (description also includes the family benefits for easy reference).
  • Phone pdf of the family details to email to a player for easy reference.

House Emveolstone

  • Family history and notable historical members (all from canon).
  • Maps and details for the estate house (8 images).
  • State of the current House including current head of the house, faction relationships, family rivals, and benefits for being a family member.
  • Full size PNG files of the family crest and family seal.
  • Rules for the House to serve as a Group Patron for non-family members.
  • Emveolstone signet ring for a character with D&D Beyond link (description also includes the family benefits for easy reference).
  • Converstion rules for Acquisitions Incorporated to use noble houses instead of corporations.
  • Phone pdf of the family details to email to a player for easy reference.

House Phylund

  • Family history and notable historical members (all from canon).
  • Maps and details for the estate house, dock warehouse, pet store, and market stalls in Waterdeep; the watchspider breeding caves under Waterdeep (which connect directly to area 12 of level 3 of DMM, on the Sargauth River); and the hunting lodge in the Ardeep Forest (29 images).
  • State of the current House including current head of the house, faction relationships, family rivals, and benefits for being a family member.
  • Ecology details, statblock, and DDB link for the watchspider.
  • Full size PNG files of the family crest and family seal.
  • Rules for the House to serve as a Group Patron for non-family members.
  • Phylund signet ring for a character with D&D Beyond link (description also includes the family benefits for easy reference).
  • Phone pdf of the family details to email to a player for easy reference.

House Rosznar

  • Family history and notable historical members (all from canon).
  • Maps and details for the estate house, wine shop, real estate office, and gem store in Waterdeep (26 images).
  • State of the current House including current head of the house, faction relationships, family rivals, and benefits for being a family member.
  • Full details, history and stat block for Jalanvaloss, the steel dragon living in Waterdeep, along with two of her custom spells brought to 5e: scattergloom and steelsting.
  • Historical information on The Black Viper, along with her magical items of choice: viperfang, slippers of shadowwalking, and dartdasher (5e stat blocks and D&D Beyond links included).
  • Full size PNG files of the family crest and family seal (and for House Hydcont too).
  • Rules for the House to serve as a Group Patron for non-family members.
  • Rosznar signet ring for a character with D&D Beyond link (description also includes the family benefits for easy reference).
  • One new poison: Red Hyd.
  • Phone pdf of the family details to email to a player for easy reference.

Hi, I only recently got to digging through the v4 PDF (having mostly used the separate versions from the earlier versions), and something seems to have gone wrong with some pages with maps on them:
- Page 25-26 seems to have misplaced the basement level map + a lot of empty space
- Page 39-43 have a lot of empty space, and the maps are half off-page.

I have the issue with both Adobe Acrobat Reader, SumatraPDF as well as the built-in Chrome PDF reader, so it looks like something might have gone wrong at the source level?

I have access to the earlier versions, which do contain the full maps.

I do love these details, thanks again for creating this!

Well I was excited about this purchase as having noble houses and family histories was what I was looking for. This product delivers lots of great information. However, I am very sad that the locations within the battlemaps have so little information regarding what the rooms look like, what they contain, and what the players may run into if they go sneaking around within the homes. Currently I have players who want to break into noble's homes and steal valuables, so I was hoping to find some guide that has pre-created some details regarding what to expect in regards to exploring these places. I guess the creation of these locations did not consider criminal motivations and instead is more interested in providing a place for player's with backgrounds or relations with these nobles with a place to stay and explore around. STILL, you really should add more detail for what is contained and seen within each area of the battlemaps!!!

What about House Margaster? My group is about to start a Dragon Heist run where we each play a noble from House Amcathra, Phylund, Roznar, and Margaster. Do you know where I can find detailed information about Margaster? Thank you!

Hi, When I put this doc up originally, it was just the Phylunds and I added a couple more houses as followups. I'd love to actually do at least 3 more Houses and the Margasters are on my todo list - but don't see it happening in 2021. As you can see from the following link (which is a good starting point to answer your question on where to find info), the house has a ton of potential. Each of the houses I've done so far have turned into pretty large (but fun) rabbit holes and House Margaster looks like it won't disappoint.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
