EB-13 Stonefire

ADD TO WISHLIST >

CHAOS IN THE HEART OF THRANE!

The light of the Silver Flame shields all who bathe in its glory, but also casts deep shadows. When heretics in the fortress city of Flamekeep emerge from the dark, the Cathedral of the Silver Flame becomes the last bastion in a citywide conflict. Optimized for APL 13, this is the third in a trilogy of adventures, the Drums of War storyline.

Welcome to the Oracle of War campaign, a new 20-part standalone story for the D&D Adventurers League! You can play this adventure as part of your own Eberron: Rising from the Last War campaign, or as part of the Oracle of War organized play campaign. While this campaign runs under the umbrella of the Adventurers League, it utilizes different rules. You can familiarize yourself with these unique campaign rules by checking out the Oracle of War Player's Guide and Oracle of War DM's Guide, found in the D&D Adventurers League Players Pack.

This is a very confusing adventure. Using an invisibility , bags of holding and fly I cannot see why the party does not just fly out of the gardens in part 2. We are told they should not fly due to the balistraria covering the area but since 2 are not much of a threat to PCs of this level how many actually cover the wall? Also as other people have commented the final encounter is very confusing. What is Flamewind's endgame . If it is get the oracle but still stay at the university then he either needs to get the players to agree or kill them as they will just try to get it back. He and his helpers are pretty weak to take on the party and with 18 int and wis he should know this. If it is to get the Oracle and bugger off then a direct confrontation is stupid. He has a relationship with the party and could probably get them to leave the oracle with him as he does a little more research on it. He could even have a couple stay to guard it and only have to deal with a few of them. Is Antinua on a suicidal vengeance...See more

I have really been quite confused with Sky Blue's role in the overall story and reading through this one has made things even worse.
Why would PCs, who've been outright betrayed by her in EB-EP-02 and realized that the Oracle's prophecy isn't necessarily about her, care about Sky being taken hostage so much as to try and talk the sphinx (who, by the way, turns on them seemingly completely out of the blue with seemingly zero hints about it in any of the earlier adventures) down from killing her? Instead of, I don't know, shrugging and going away to deal with much bigger issues right at hand, like the whole Stonefire situation?
Honestly, if I were in Flamewind's place, I'd much rather put a knife to Kalli Alran's throat.

Sky Blue doesn't *totally* betray the group in EBEP-02 - at the end of the day, she gives the group the one thing they're looking for on the train! As for the treasury, well, rogues gotta rogue... :)

You can swap Sky for Kalli Alran if you want (we originally even had that as an option), but it would need a bit of tweaking at the end of the campaign. Flamewind - and her motivations - are detailed further in EB-20, which is when Sky returns too.

Look, I'm willing to let a lot of things slip, because overall I love this campaign and my players are VERY invested in it.

But I'll have to be completely blunt and honest - taken out of context the whole last scene of this adventure seems like a feverish dream sequence at best and a contrived afterthought of an encounter at worst. And this adventure (as well as what, 8 adventures after it?) provides exactly zero context for it.

It doesn't mention where, when, how, and, most importantly, why Sky was captured. It has no mention of what Sky can tell players about the whole situation in the conclusion. Flamewind just kinda pops out of the scenery, does unexpectedly evil things with no prior foreshadowing (just like Lord Bucket did some good things without anything earlier hinting that he's not actually a complete douche), and then Undying opponent-of-the-week pops up onto the scene as well, alone, like a revenge-seeking lone wolf she is. By the way, Antinua's not even given a personal info...See more

Hi, just want to know what happens to Sky Blue after all this. The next module series doesn't touch on what happens, where she goes or what her importance is so just want to fill the gap once I finish this module, thanks!

After this, Sky Blue doesn't return to the story until the very end. She shows up again in EB-20! Until then, she's in Salvation, trying to find news of her father.

Hey. Just a querie that had my players a little confused. The Airship that is gifted to the group by Jaela has contractory information in the stat block and the text.

In the stat block it states that it has a cargo capacity of 1 ton where in the text on the following page it states it has a 30 ton cargo capacity.

The stat block also states that it flies at 9 miles/hour whereas the text it flies at 20 miles/hour

Also.... did the ship have a name? My party has christened it "Jaela's Gift" but surely it would have a name prior to being loaned to the party.

Interesting - we'll check those stats, clearly something went awry. The ship can be named whatever your group wants it to be called, or you can give it a previous name yourself. It's cool to let the players choose something though!

Where is the warlord statblock in this adventure supposed to appear?

I'm slightly confused by the events on page 6 and 8. On page 6 it says that Jaela is escorted into the room by two champions. Then on page 8 is says that the champions burst into the room after 3 rounds.

Are these 2 more champions? If so, are the original 2 unaffected by stonefire? If they are the same 2 champions, did they leave after escorting Jaela into the room?

Hi Alan, I agree it is somewhat unclear as written. These are the same two champions who escorted her inside; they're supposed to wait just outside the door.

I am a little confused by the plotline here. It is not fully explained. What exactly is happening to the elves? How come some elves can resist while others cannot? Why does Torazun resist Stonefire only if the PCs forge a rapport with him?

Is this affecting all of the elves in the Five Nations? All of the elves in Khorvaire? All of the elves in the world? Are half-elves affected? Are Phiarlan and Thuranni elves affected?

Page 11 says, "The statue is of Tira Miron, the paladin who sacrificed herself to bind the demon Bel Shalor, one of the Lords of Dust, and who now serves as the Voice of the Silver Flame." This is a confusing sentence, because it could be read as Bel Shalor serving as the Voice of the Silver Flame. Also, I believe Bel Shalor is an overlord, not a Lord of Dust; the Lords of Dust are the organization trying to release the overlords, not the overlords themselves.

Hey Theresa, it is intentional that the precise nature of how Stonefire works remains mysterious. The players aren’t supposed to know exactly how it functions, and by extension, it’s not really important that DMs know either - indeed, in a home game it could work however you want it to. But, to give you some background on the storyline intent - it only affects elves that the Cairdal Knot have implanted with their hypnotic suggestion. These “sleepers” are unaware they’re affected until they receive the telepathic trigger. This trigger takes time to ripple across the sleepers, so they don’t activate all at the same time (hence why Torazun has a delayed response). Antinua, in her rage, activates the whole program at once, affecting sleepers across Khorvaire. Their objective once activated is simple: maniac destruction.

Will the PCs still be wading through the Stonefire chaos in EB-14, or will things have been resolved by then?

The consequences of this event definitely affect later adventures in the series, but with the Cairdal Knot out of the picture, the campaign moves on to face wholly new perils in the next three part storyline, "Engines of War".

Why is Immeral's lover named "Keyleth Siannodel" here, when it was previously "Antinua"?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
