A Chase Through The Planes

A Chase Through The Planes

“Traversing the planes of existence is no easy task. Only extremely talented and knowledgeable people could manage it.”

A mysterious thief stole a dangerous artifact, called the Tome of The Stilled Tongue from the tower of Lady Blackstaff of Waterdeep, Vajra Safahr herself, leaving the tower by opening a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire.

The archmage immediately calls the band of adventurers who are staying in town to chase down the thief and return the dangerous book to its place.

A Chase Through The Planes is an 8-10 hour long planar adventure that should take roughly two playing sessions. It is optimized for 4 or 5 characters of 9-10 levels. This adventure can be used to kick-off a planar campaign or as a standalone one-shot.

A Chase Through The Planes features:

  • An exciting journey across the multiple planes of existence: Elemental Plane of Fire, Shadowfell, Feywild, and Ysgard

  • Exploration of morkoth island and lair in the Astral Sea full of weird creatures, strange phenomenons, and dangerous encounters

  • Heavy use of Supernatural Regions from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything

  • High-quality battle maps, available in printer-friendlier and universal vtt format

Stretch goals:

  • if this adventure reaches Copper metal status, I will add an additional encounter map for the Arrival Circle - Unlocked! New map added in both png and universal vtt formats.
  • If this adventure reaches Silver metal status, I will add encounter maps for the Feywild and Plane of Fire - Unlocked! New maps added in both png and universal vtt formats, along with another round of editing.
  • If this adventure reaches Electrum metal status, I will add a new optional plane for the planar chase

This looks like a really interesting one-shot that I'd like to run with a group of friends, but I do not own Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Would you say it's required to accommodate the "Heavy use of Supernatural Regions"?

Hello Sam, Tasha is not required for this - I've listed tables for the ones I used (Enchanted Spring, Primal Fruit, and Mirror Zone) in the separate appendix at the end :)

Had a quick readthrough of it and it seems very good! Will definitely be running this soon.
Was just wondering though, what are those dragon creatures on page 18? Loved the art but I couldn't see anything actually written about them in the PDF? Admittedly I might have skipped it since I'll read this in more detail closer to when I can slot it into my game.

Hello Josh, thank you for your feedback!

These creatures are dinosaurs, you can roll them on Iorion's island encounters table. Also, players can encounter them specifically near the Primal Oak on the island.

Aha fair enough. I think it would help if there was some text near the image specifying that, since the black one DOES have the very iconic horns of actual black dragons lol.

Couldn't hurt, you are right :) I'll edit it soon to add a new map anyway, so will add captions to images as well.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
