Man, I took the challenge and played pure wizard. I actually survived, but mostly thanks to Rufio (who I had to sacrifice at the end, but with a REALLY lucky nat 20 on his final Death Save, I'm happy to report that Rufio pulled through!)

These are awesome! I multiclassed a rogue/wizard for this one, and he worked out pretty well.

Do you have a time frame for the next installment?

Hi, Allen! It's difficult to time the release of the next book. I work on it a bit every day! My best guess for #3 is about 3 months from now, given the rate of writing and what I learned about testing time for the previous books.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll check back around then (and I understand Real Life often causes delays).

I'm eagerly awaiting the third installment. Do you already have an idea when it will be available? It would be an instant buy for me.

Development is back on track after several pandemic-related slowdowns that occurred this year.

I think book 3 is going to go to alpha testers next Thursday. Beta testers get it a week later and have it for 3 weeks. If little additional work is needed, expect to see book 3 in mid- to late-December. If heavy revisions are needed, it will take longer and might need a second test process with beta testers.

The images don't appear if you try to view it through drivethrurpg instead of dmsguild!

Great adventures through the first two adventures of Eight Petals Argent and am excitedly awaiting the rest in the series.

A couple of notes:

I printed the events and lore checklists from the Playbook appendices to play through, and there were a few events that occurred that weren't in that version of the appendix: Nevus and Navulus, Parrot Flies, Collected Evidence (without the word Substantial), and Grudge with Lantan all occurred in my playthrough.

In the same checklist, several of the events seem to be shifted between chapters 3 and 4.

The only play weirdness I found was in entry 4-003. The westbound exit implies that I've entered a new space, but puts me back at 4-003. (Searching around after finishing, perhaps it would go to 4-070?)

Thanks again for a very fun adventure!

Awesome! You not only found a mismatched connection but you identified the correct text part it should go to. It looks like that door was pointing you east no matter which direction you were trying to pass through it.

I should have that fixed (and the playbook) updated and posted in about five minutes.

Great, glad to help!

A couple more questions:

Is this your preferred channel for typo-level issues?

In general, if there's no reason to assume otherwise, do available Slipstone Gang members also offer the downtime options from the first adventure? (In particular, consider Nonap and character features that could be gained at 3rd level.)

Twitter is best for me (link in the About the Author section), but this works too.

The gang members don't offer the same downtime options as the last book because of differing circumstances that affect the free time. For example, the downtime contemplates a tenday when Rufio wasn't in Waterdeep, so helping him in the temple for 10 days like last time wasn't available this time.

Thank you so much for this incredible story. I enjoyed it very much and I can't wait for the next installment.

On my first play-through, I found a couple of typos and errors in the text (even though nothing that stopped me from continuing):
p.355: Action description of XXX misses the end of the entry. I imagine the attack is the same as other similar creatures in the book.
p.406: Event code "Bought Mask" should probably be "Wearing Mask", or vice versa.
P.408: Event Code "Investigated Pillar" should probably be "Identified Pillar", or vice versa.
P.413: "As you grasp the door handle, a wave of nausea overcomes you, the likes of which you." - I'm not a native speaker but to me this sounds like something is missing.

Thanks for the reply! I've updated the document to correct these typos. It will take about five minutes to compile the PDF and post it.

Edit: Done!

Thanks!

Playing it again, I came across an Event Code "Dawn Horizon", which I found cannot be acquired and, when checked for nevertheless, links to an unavailable entry. More close inspection, reveals that there are three similar occurrences but the event code is not accessible.
part 1:014: If you have the “Dawn Horizon” event code, go to Part 1-129 in the ACC.
part 3:182: If you have the “Dawn Horizon” event code, go to Part 3-206 in the ACC.
part 4:118: If you have the “Dawn Horizon” event code, go to Part 4-127 in the ACC.

Th "Dawn Horizon" event code can't be acquired normally. It exists to link the book to a separate document called the "Appendix of Cut Content," (the ACC). About a hundred pages got cut for pacing purposes, but I preserved them so that (someday) people could play the Director's Cut by using both documents together.

Right now, the ACC is exclusively available to my crew of beta testers. However, since you're the first person to mention finding those three links, I will send you a copy if you give me your email address. (My contact info is in the back of the book--I wouldn't recommend posting an email here!)

Thanks for the clarification. Indeed, I would be already one who is interested in the director's cut version for all the adventures (perhaps can be an anniversary edition for each book?).

I appreciate the ACC, thank you . It gives me some insight in the development/writing of an adventure as I'm trying to write (rather slowly) one myself.

I only keep Facebook because I have a large group of people interested in writing solos and it's a great mechanism when used for that. I recommend this group as a source of ideas, collaboration, playtesting, and other support for solo writers.

I've finished another play-through and found some more small issues:

ACC PART 1-149
"... manually navigate to Part 1-149."
> Should be "... manually navigate to Part 1-014" (branching point) or "... manually navigate to Part 1-023" (just after deviation decision)

EPA02 PART 1-023
"As turn onto ..."
> "As you turn onto ..."

EPA02 PART 1-070
"... A moment later, they return from the back hall with a slim book. ..."
> "... A moment later, he returns from the back hall with a slim book. ..."

EPA02 PART 2-033
"Alter: ... something hidden near the alter, ..."
and PART 2-078
"... a minute to deface the alter or bury it. ..."
> I believe you meant "altar" instead of "alter".

EPA02 PART 2-211
"... Return to Part 2-080."
> Wrong link?...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
