King Obould's Fist

Overview

"A figure from legend asks the gathered heroes to help set the cosmos aright. Will the heroes overcome the multiversal threat? Will they overcome their own biases? A four-/six-hour adventure for Tier 3 characters. Optimized for APL 13."

Why Get "King Obould's Fist?"

So why should you buy this adventure? Five reasons...

  • It has modrons!
  • This Forgotten Realms adventure puts the conflicts of the orcish people into their actual perspective.
  • Your heroes can meet and interact with one of the most famous NPC's in the Forgotten Realms novels written by RA Salvatore.
  • Your parties can face off with and even defeat a dark god.
  • MODRONS!!!?!!1!

This romp is the heavy metal punk version of D&D 5e. "King Obould's Fist" features wilderness and tech-based exploration sequences, discovering an inhuman process hurting people, and industrial sabotage to make this travesty stop. It includes a modron-themed chase sequence, as well as some of the most challenging combat in existing 5e content. The open world style with special investigation mechanics makes for a tale you can fit into a 4 hour slot, or extend to 6 hours or more. The possiblities for roleplaying and social play build a powerful narrative for high level characters, and the adventure can serve as a jump-off point for stories of your own creation.

"King Obould's Fist" is heavily inspired by classics in the punk rock scene (thank you, Johnny Rotten). Custom art for this adventure was commissioned, including the beautiful wrap-around cover art. It was lovingly put together to appeal to your senses, and it would look great printed and on your gaming shelf.

As one of the final CCC adventures authorized by Wizards of the Coast and Adventurers League, it will sit as one of the most sandboxy adventures for your Adventurers League legal game. "King Obould's Fist" also fits well for homegames set in the Forgotten Realms, and it works great in other settings too.

A Note on Sensitivity

"King Obould's Fist" was crafted with a vindication of the orcish people of Forgotten Realms in mind. Often described as violent savages (a legacy sadly grounded in racism during the time of their invention), Orcs have seen a renaissance of sorts in gamer culture. This story highlights the importance and value of orcs in the Forgotten Realms setting, as realized people with a purpose as important as the other ancestries on Toril.

This adventure was heavily reviewed by sensitivity readers to ensure it handled the topics therin with empathy. We on the team hope this becomes the industry standard, as it makes our gaming spaces more welcoming for everybody. Even given this, we highly recommend this adventure's themes be discussed before playing because some of it is just plain heavy.

An interesting fact - every person who worked on this adventure is a minority creative in the RPG space. While this isn't the sole reason to buy this adventure, it is a good reason to consider "King Obould's Fist."

An Adventure for Charity

This adventure was written as a thank you for a sizeable donation to D8 Summit Charities, a 501c3 charity serving quality local causes such as homeless shelters and food banks. At the end of the well-received story, the players were asked if they wanted this story widely available to people. This was met with a resounding "yes." Their experiences now live on at your table.

Thank you to that group of players (their names are included as playtesters in your copy of the adventure).

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
