EB-11 My Undying Heart

ADD TO WISHLIST >

POWERFUL FORCES GATHER . . .

High above Karrnath, the adventurers present the Oracle of War to the Institute of the Twelve. The dragonmarked houses promise security, but dead eyes are watching from the dark. In this nation of storms, the drums of war are beating again. A Four-Hour Adventure for Tier 3 Characters. Optimized for APL 11, this is the first in a trilogy of adventures, the Drums of War storyline.

Welcome to the Oracle of War campaign, a new 20-part standalone story for the D&D Adventurers League! You can play this adventure as part of your own Eberron: Rising from the Last War campaign, or as part of the Oracle of War organized play campaign. While this campaign runs under the umbrella of the Adventurers League, it utilizes different rules. You can familiarize yourself with these unique campaign rules by checking out the Oracle of War Player's Guide and Oracle of War DM's Guide, found in the D&D Adventurers League Players Pack.

In EB-11 "My Undying Heart", how is the Pyroduct supposed to work?

# P1 P2 P3 #
_ P4 P5 P6 #
# P7 P8 P9 _

If they get it right on the first try, the riddle tells them to move Right (into P4), Right (into P5), Up (into P2), Right (into P3), Down (into P6), Down (into P9), and Right (the exit tunnel). But the example says that if the enter a wrong room, such as P1, the wrong room shifts until it's in the position P4 starts in. So that would be:

# P2 P3 P6 #
_ P1 P5 P9 #
# P4 P7 P8 _

As far as I can tell they are now screwed. They can't follow the riddle sequence because they can't move Right from P1 into P5. They also can't follow the original room sequence because even if they move down into P4 there's now no way to move into P5 from there. I guess they could try to rotate things back to the starting position, but I think that's going to be very difficult if they are drawing their own map as suggested in the rules.

The encoded Oracle Dossier that players can find in EBEP-02 Rolling Thunder mentions that it can be decoded somehow in this adventure, but as far as I can tell that legacy event isn't mentioned here. Did I miss something?

We thought it would be better to kick this one in at the start of EB-12. We'll update the adventure record for EBEP-02 to clarify that!

A minor issue and a curious question came up after glancing through the adventure.

1. There is a dozen representative booths in Part 1, but listed are 13 houses and all of 15 of their leaders. Should probably be fixed in some way - at least clarified that the 'dozen' is more of a figurative description.
Also, personally, I'm probably gonna reskin that scene as a mix of NGE's Seele and Jedi Council, with isolated booths with light-up house sigils and some of the reps clearly telepathy-ing in.

2. Portraits in Handout 4's right corner are a curious bunch. Alexander Pushkin, Empress Maria Alexandrovna, Archduke Albert VII of Austria, and two ladies I sadly couldn't identify off the top of my head. How intentional is the choice? Will there be parallels to real people further down the line (asking so I could prepare as a DM)?
On a related note - I leaked that pic to my players (all Russian) and they have already started reviewing verses from Pushkin's poems and tales as parts of...See more

Hey there! Hope you have fun with the adventure!

Good catch on the booths; that's an error. We'll tweak the boxed text description; the twelve seals should show dragonmarks, not house emblems.

The portraits aren't intended to refer to real people; the Cairdal Knot have roamed around Khorvaire for centuries in different guises, these portraits show different historical figures who've been identified as the same two characters. We just used stock art for these.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
