This is an EXTENSION AND A MODULE for use with the Fantasy Grounds VTT.

The Random Encounter Generator 5E is here to save you from calculating an appropriate encounter ever again.

Get your PCs on the Party Sheet, load up some NPCs, fire up the generator from the Encounter window and you're ready to make your players fight for their lives with the click of a button!

Filters allow you to narrow down generated encounters to the type, speed, or biome!

Biomes can be filled with NPCs and named for whatever environment you plan to make your party trudge through!

The frigid Arctic, the blistering Desert, dangerous Mountains, dense Urban landscapes, and more!

The module which is included provides a Reference Manual and a list of premade Biomes that utilize NPCs from the Monster Manual, Volos Guide to Monsters, Tome of Foes, and the Dungeon Masters Guide.

If you have npcs with the “Humanoid” type, it may be taking a longer time to build an encounter. When the program becomes unresponsive, it's repeating the process of building an encounter and has a set amount of times before it gives up. Try giving it time. My computer takes at most 7 seconds sometimes, but it could be more on different computers and with more filters.

If you're still having trouble, please feel free to come talk to me in Rob Twohys discord channel and we’ll see if we can figure it out.

Thanks for the fast answer, Troy
I tried to wait...but it didn't work *gasp* So i started messing around with the generator and i found that when i changed the monster type from "Humanoid" to "humanoid" it won't crash. Please take a look at this issue.
The software is awesome, the NPC Maker too :)

I cannot replicate this delay. It appears i only have one or two NPC's that have a capitalized H for Humanoid, but it generates the encounter quite quickly still for me. It's varying quantities of an NPC i have named Arden Grandure. Check that your filters are not too restrictive, or even try picking a difficulty for the encounter. Also check if you have the absolute latest version of the extension. If you still have trouble, i can assist you much easier in discord where we can share screenshots and such much easier.

I've managed to replicate the issue and fixed it on my end. the problem appeared to be if the NPC had no CR. I've added code to treat a blank CR field as "0", and added lines to ensure that Loops break after a certain number of attempts.

In this fix, I've also made it so when you have more than one biome as filters, you can get a random mashup from the different biomes, where before it was only taking from the first biome.

Is there a way to limit the list of creatures in the encounte to a specific sourcebook while still having the others loaded. An example is I have the Monster Manual loaded but I want the generator to use the NPC's from the Primeval Thule campaign setting I have loaded only. It looks like I could create a "Biome" for them but I'd have to drag all the NPC's from the campaign setting into the new Biome. Just seeing if there is an option to pull from a specific source book.

a quicker way would be to copy the text list of NPCs from perhaps an online webpage, and then paste it into a Story Record. Then you drop that Story Record onto a new biome's NPC list, and it will grab all those NPCs. Have only the module you want to use for that "biome" loaded when doing this initial setup, or there's a chance it will grab NPCs with the same name that exist in other sources first.

Hope this helps.

I just purchased this item. I put it in the mod file and ext file for FGU. I am unable to see in the extension list on the launcher. I am also unable to see the mod in the library/module section in game. I verified they are in the proper files but aren't showing in game. Does it have conflicts with other know mods? I have a number bought from here. Please assist, thank you.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
