Whether they’re fearsome phantoms, playful poltergeists, spiritual guardians, or spectral familiars, ghosts bring a little of the otherworld with them as they return to haunt the living. Disembodied and bound to the Border Ethereal, ghosts use possession to merge with and influence mortals. They support their still-living allies from beyond the veil, averting disaster with their uncanny insight, wreathing hosts in eerie magic, and passing on hard-earned skills from former lifetimes.

Ghosts are bound by Unfinished Business, pursuits that tie them to the mortal world. The Unfinished Businesses presented here are: Duty Not Done, Malice Unsated, Mischief Not Managed, and Restless Blade. Whether you’re a warrior dishonored on the battlefield, a commoner killed in cold blood, a mentor who outlived their student, or a thief who died behind bars plotting one last heist, these subclasses will get you started on the path to an eventful afterlife.

 

Ghostly Encore

Reject the cruel hand dealt to you by fate and return slain characters as ghosts. Work with your DM to offer beloved characters a second chance, forever changed by their untimely passing. Without physical bodies, players will have to get creative to make the most of their afterlife.

Speakers for Lost Souls

Play as a spiritualist, medium, shaman, or other paranormal proxy using the Occultist Class Variant, or add a touch of the supernatural to your character through multiclassing.

Character Building Resources

Add some flair to your ghost using Signature Phenomena, Possession Quirks, and other foibles.

Hello, I wanted to ask about a certain ruling real quick: can this class phase through walls? I couldn't find anything for or against it. A player was asking about it. Other than this, this is an amazing class with a lot of flavor and functionality. I love it to pieces.

Glad you like it!

The 15th-level feature 'Incorporeal Movement' allows the ghost to pass through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain.
Alternatively, the 5th-level Manifestation option 'One With The Mists' grants access to Gaseous Form and Misty Step - they won't phase you through walls, but they'll help you get around them.

If you're ever in doubt about what the ghost can or can't do, double-check the text of the 1st-level ability 'Spirit Form' (especially the text in the purple box!).

Hey there I just bought this and read through and really love it so far! I do have one question tho; when choosing a race to play this character do they still get the racial traits from when they were alive? And if so how does racial feats work then?

As written, your character's race provides its benefits (and drawbacks) as normal, and they are still considered a member of that race when selecting feats.

I do have two more question thought,since you count as undead normal healing spells don’t work on them. Do items like potions for healing work at all or not?

Secondly for the Spectral Affinity Manifestation ability,does it only work for magic items or can it use normal items that the Ghost can now use?

No problem! I'll do my best to answer any queries you might have.

1) The text of Spirit Form (in the purple box) clarifies the ways in which your hit points can be restored.
2) As written, Spectral Affinity only affects magic items.

Work with your GM to house-rule the class in ways that will improve your play experience. Don't let the rules 'as-written' hold you back.

As an aside, spells that restore hit points to creatures *can* affect the undead unless their description states otherwise. in this case, it's the text of Spirit Form that would prevent them.

I have a question: Duty Not Done allows you to cast augments.

Strictly speaking according to what is written "Armor of Agathys" can only be cast at 1st level. Which is a shame because it would be quite potent if it could be cast at higher levels. Is that working as intended or is it implied that the augments are cast at the highest level you have access to?

Thanks for your question - I hope you're enjoying the class. The class as written supports your interpretation. The Duty not Done subclass can swap out lower level spells as it gains levels, encouraging the use of higher-level options (the subclass in question already has access to non-stacking temporary hp at higher levels, reducing the spell's usefulness). Work with your GM to house-rule the class if you'd prefer a more spell-slot-like system, I doubt anything in the game will break!

I think this is a good thing but not because Armor Of Agathys would be less effective but quite the opposite, it would be MORE effective. As if it would work like the Abjuration Wizard subclass, it would go through the classes temporary hitpoints first and then armor of agathys, while still doing that cold damage on every melee attack you take.

I have a question about your class, and I hope you could answer it:
Ghosts cannot attack or use spells using other classes features. Does it apply to spells, that I get with a race? For example, could I cast a high-elven cantrip, if my ghost is an elf?

The ghost's 'spirit form' prohibits them from casting spells granted by other classes' features, but spells granted by your race can be cast as normal. Remember that the ghost can't make attacks, so spells that call for an attack roll are an exception.

Thank you for your interest in the class! There's no plan for a Fantasy Grounds release at present, but I'd be more than happy to look into it if there's demand. Out of interest, would you be satisfied with a basic implementation, as for the core FG modules' classes, or would a fully-automated version with a macro for every class mechanic be preferable?

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
