FAQ

I've already purchased one or more of the products in this bundle – do I still have to pay full price for the bundle?

Nope! We've created another bundle which also contains each of the individual DM's Resources published on the DM's Guild, while not charging you for any DM's Resources you've already bought. The content in these two bundles is nearly identical – the only difference is, that the other bundle by necessity has the chapters separated, while this bundle has all seven chapters merged into a single document, which allows us to trim some repetitious parts and make content more organized. However, we promise that you'll not miss anything by buying the other bundle!

Why would I spend 14.95$ on additional content for a campaign book I've already purchased?

That's a valid question. There's several ways to think about it. First, there's the hours of preparation time the products will help you save. If you save just one hour per session, you're probably paying less than a 1 dollar for each hour saved! Second, there's the amount of extra content you get – maps, encounters, quests – and the extra enjoyment and excitement that can bring to your D&D game. In the end, however, it's up to you. If you don't feel like buying everything at once, you can always just buy the individual products you think you'll get the most use out of.

Is there any content in here that I wouldn't get if I bought each product individually?

Nope – this bundle includes only the content in each of the published DM's Resources. If we update individual products, we'll also update this bundle.

How will I know if you add new products to this bundle or publish new products?

Join our mailing list (https://mailchi.mp/1f291d8096c1/eventyrnewsletter) to receive news about Eventyr Games releases, exclusive content and special promotions! You will also be notified if this product is updated with additional content, such as new maps, cheatsheets, and so on!

I purchased each individual chapter of your guide separately when they were first realised before this complete bundle was available. Is the content of the complete pdf any different to the individual chapter pdfs? And is there as way to get the complete pdf without having to repurchase the entire bundle? It would be much easier to use a single combined pdf rather than one for each chapter.

Is there DM's notes for only chapter 1?

Hi Michael

Unfortunately, yes. There were some difficulties regarding DMsGuild policy regarding literal DM's notes (as opposed to all the advice and stuff that covers every chapter), which made it difficult to include notes for the rest of the chapters while we were putting the guide together.

What resolution is the Icewind Dale Map? I'm looking to find the biggest map possible to put in roll20 for my players to use.

CREATOR
Hi Cameron!

The overland map of Icewind Dale in this bundle is a rendition made solely for the purpose of visually mapping out travel for the DM. In other words, it's not really one I'd use for the players (all the bundle's encounter maps are, of course, created to use in VTT's like Roll20).

If you're out to get a high resolution map of Icewind Dale, I'd go straight to the source and pick the map up from the amazing Mike Schley: https://prints.mikeschley.com/p506640257 :)

I have a question about the "Sacrifices to Auril" and "Starting Quests" of "Chapter One: Ten-Towns" in the bundle.

It suggests changing the towns which use humanoid sacrifice from Bryn Shander and East Haven to Dougan's Hole and Good Mead, and even explains that the adventure only refers to the sacrifices in the Cold Hearted Killer opening quest. But in the discussion of Cold Hearted Killer, the bundle refers to the sacrifices taking place in the original towns.

Is this an oversight? How can the Cold Hearted Killer be altered to fit the change of premise indicated on the previous page of the bundle?

PS: I am a "purchaser" and received this as a gift but on my work email by accident. I can't use work email to post here.

Hi Lisa

We usually try to make it so that even if you don't follow one piece of advice, you can still follow another, and thus take both scenarios into account. I'll admit, it's a bit hidden away, but in the section 'Investigating the Murders' on pg. 9 of the main file, we explain how you can have the murders happen in the same towns, even if you have moved the sacrifices to the others town. Below is a brief summary.

Bryn Shander: "..if you have changed where the sacrifices are held (see ‘Sacrifices to Auril’ on the previous page), Tilna rented a room to the dwarf, who fled from Good Mead to avoid being drawn in the lottery there."

Easthaven: "He kept the name of his sister, the halfling trapper Elsie Dapperfeet, out of the lottery – or took her in, after she fled the lottery in Dougan’s Hole."

It's a bit tucked away, so I can see how it could be missed, but I hope this clears things up :)

I am a first time DM and your bundle has made this campaign so much easier to understand. I like the way you changed travel to make more sense, but I do have a question. I did not see axe beaks in your method of travel. RoFM says they can run across the snow and the MM has them at movement speed of 50ft, so they cover around 5.5 miles per hour. How would you break down their distance per hour and day? If they can cover more distance per hour then a dog sled, could that change possible outcomes in Chp 4?
Customer avatar
Eventyr G December 07, 2020 10:09 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hi Lauren

Sorry for the late reply! :)

You are right, axe beaks weren't taken into consideration upon writing the travel rules, which is a bit of an oversight – our party were particularly happy with their two axe beaks (especially "Gertrud", such a wonderful creature!). For ease-of-play, we use the same travel pace for axe beaks as for dogsleds – the dogs compensating for their slower move speed with their ability to move better in snow and better endurance – which is also in alignment with what the book otherwise dictates (where mentioned, dogs and axe beaks are presumed to move at a similar pace).

I hope that makes sense – and thank you so much for your kind words :)

Love this bundle. Has been a huge help with getting me ready for Rime of the Frostmaiden. First session is tonight and I am psyched. My only question is this: Why are most of the outdoor battlemaps set in daylight when Icewind Dale is stuck in never ending darkness?
Customer avatar
Eventyr G November 30, 2020 6:59 am UTC
CREATOR
Hi Vincent!

Thank you for the kind words, so happy to hear that :)

Regarding the maps, most maps are made to resemble twilight with only a slight darkened overlay and drifting snow. The intention is that the maps should be useable as both "daylight" (as far as there's daylight in Icewind Dale) and night maps, while still being easy to work with. It's my experience that (very dark) night maps can be cool to look at, but hard to actually play with. That being said, it shouldn't be too big an issue adding some more night maps if there's a demand for it :)

I hope you have a great first session and an awesome campaign!

Hi Mike

There's a lot of different maps in the bundle, so it's hard to give a quick answer to that question. There's a printing guide in there, though, which will help you print any map included. Each map also has its dimensions in inches in the title – multiply by 2.5 and you have the size in CM :)

Great set of content - fills a lot of glaring blanks and really helps makes sense of the more disjointed parts of the campaign. Only issue I hit was FGU seemed off with its scaling? Foaming mug quest map or snowy camp maps for instance was 15 feet per grid square. Every chance it is user error on my part as its the first run I have had at GM'ing a campaign in FGU. Would appreciate if someone could point out what I am missing if its a user issue though!
Customer avatar
Eventyr G November 15, 2020 8:37 pm UTC
CREATOR
Hi David

I don't have any experience with FGU, unfortunately, but if it helps any, the Foaming Mugs' map is 30x60 at 9000x4500 resolution and the Snowy Camp is 20x20 at 3000x3000 resolution. Maybe the FGU grid is set to 50px per square – you may need to set it at 150px per square, or reduce the maps size by 300%.

I'm sorry I can't be of any more help than that, but I'm fairly certain that this is something that has to be resolved within Fantasy Grounds Unity, and I don't have any experience with the platform :/

I hope you get it to work and thanks so much for your kind words!

So far, there is alot to like in this product. The maps are thematic. However, would it be possible in the bundle to name the PDFs in a way that keeps them together by topic? The file names are kind of all over the place and makes navigating the bundle harder than you probably want it to be. Overall still very happy with my purchase and look forward to using this to amp up my current Frostmaiden game.

Hi Jeremey!

Yeah, organizing these bundles are always a bit of a pain – do you do it alphabetically, by file type, by chapter, and so on. We have included a 'Readme' file in an attempt to make it a bit easier to see where each file fits, but I think you're right that more can be done to make it even easier.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by organizing them by topic – putting maps together, docs together, etc., or do you mean having them in folders by Chapter? Let us know and we'll see if we can get things organized a bit better! :)

In any event, thanks for your constructive criticism – and for helping us be better!

Best regards,

Yeah, chapter would have made much more sense than my saying 'topic'. If things were bundled together by chapter that would be SUPER helpful. Perhaps one separate folder for the map package as well so that we're not navigating the very generous collection of maps when we're looking for the other content.

Hi Allan

You are correct, that these maps are NOT the same as in the book – and we have never claimed that they are. The 20+ maps you get in this bundle (in addition to the advice, monster sheets, cheatsheets & more) are original maps that either help you run wilderness encounters or that help you run mapless encounters from the book (such as the 'Foaming Mugs'-quest, the 'Lake Monster'-quest', several encounters in Ythryn & more). This is also what we say in the product's description:

"Nearly two dozen battlemaps in both gridded and ungridded versions primed for virtual tabletops that provide scenes for arctic encounters, combat in the streets of Ten-Towns, and various mapless locations throughout the campaign."

Anyway, I'm sorry that you're disappointed with the bundle. If you shoot me an email at jvaleur@eventyrgames.com, I'll be happy to work out a solution with you :)

The maps are really useful! - there are a bunch that the campaign simply doesn't have and this fills in those blanks. The paper book assumes you are going to make that up on the fly with a pen / marker - for VTT that doesn't really work.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
