My name is Rowan Stern, and this place is not as I remember. When my family and I lived here, it was reasonable, a proper if unloving home. I dreamed of it, as I rested in the village below, and, in my dream, I was drawn to enter it. And now I find myself awakened in my parent’s bed, a stranger in what had been my home.

I don’t know what is tangled in the sheets, but I dare not disturb it. Every door I open leads to the wrong place. Every time it is shut and reopened, a different place as well. It feels spiteful, purposeful. I feel a hostility I’ve never felt before.

I came to find my brother, Ash, whom my parents left along with this house. Should I find him, I will bring him out of this place, and deliver what justice I can for their monstrous abandonment. I knew them to be cruel, but to be of such a nature as this? I fear for my brother now, more than I ever have before.

Should you find this, then know the worst has befallen me. If you can find my brother, I beg of you to bring him out of this place. And if you find me, tell them why I ventured here. Let the law make sense of this senselessness. And may the gods preserve me.

An old house that sits atop a hill has gained sentience throughout the years of ownership and abandonment. Something is alluring about this house like a siren’s call, so much that the village below warns children and those that wander through not to “get too close.” The house draws people to it, and once they have crossed the threshold, they cannot leave. It plays tricks with its victims, confusing them when they step from one room to the next, never allowing them to find the “exit.” The house turns these people into husks of their former selves, feeding off the memories of the life that they bring with them like a vampire. These thraws wander the corridors, wailing, and searching for something lost that they cannot remember. The house’s hunger can never be quenched. It longs for more memories to consume, attempting to fill the void that its former inhabitants left by abandoning it so many years ago.

Can your characters survive the mysteries of the House long enough to escape?

Love the idea of this adventure and want to use it however memory loss is a topic that my group want to stay away from. Is there something else the house could be feeding off instead?

Was a trip. Just getting around to leaving a review for this, but ran this during Halloween 2021. Was an absolute blast. Everyone enjoyed it!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
