Featuring over 30 pages detailing each trap, including:

  • Thin Ice: An underground lake fed by a waterfall freezes over every winter. The ice is safe… until the trap is sprung, releasing massive boulders from the ceiling to break it.

  • The Black Hole: A portal sits in the middle of a vast, empty void, waiting to be opened. But protecting it is a trap which creates three small black holes, crushing explorers to death and pulling the very stars down from the sky.

  • The Pharaoh's Tomb: A relic of an ancient pharaoh is guarded by a trap which buries thieves in crushing sand… and deadly scorpions.

  • The Electric Vault: Thieves get shocked by the electric floor of this vault, and the clever among them who stay off the ground are soon pummeled by swinging weights.

  • Perilous Plants: A deadly carnivorous plant waits in the dense foliage. Trespassers are stuck to the plant while it slowly eats them alive.

  • Terminal Fall: Portals in the ceiling and floor of a hallway create an infinitely falling deathtrap. To make matters worse, archer statues near the portals pepper the victim with magic projectiles.

  • Teeter-Totter: A locked door and a T-shaped intersection hides a deadly balancing trap which threatens to dump adventurers into dark pits… all the while adding heavy rolling weights to the mix!

  • Boobytrap Ambush: A path along a sleepy ridge provides the perfect place to ambush unexpecting travellers with rolling boulders, spiked pits, and stinging bees.

  • The Wizard’s Tower: A wizard protects their library by transforming trespassers into frogs, then sucking them up into a dizzying whirlwind of chaos magic.

  • The Gauntlet: This one’s a classic for a reason! A spiked wall advances on adventurers, pushing them down a dark, 300-ft hall as they dodge devious traps. Multiple options provided to customize this trap to your deadly whims.

Each entry includes a full suite of mechanics to describe the threats the traps pose, how those threats get deadlier over the course of the encounter, and how the players can overcome them.

Full Color Encounter Maps

Included with each trap is a full color encounter map (in both gridded and ungridded) featuring stunning artwork from Tom Cartos and Forgotten Adventures!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
