Hope for the Best. Prepare for the Worst. Bring a Warm Coat.

The frozen wastes are as inhospitable place as you can find. Subzero temperatures. Driving winds. Chest deep snows. Hungry predators. And between all that? A lonely death. But still, those few who prepare for it manage to survive where all others fall. Ready yourself. The blizzard comes.

Knuckleheads & Other Such Curiosities: A Travelers’ Guide to Icewind Dale contains new arctic themed subclasses, backgrounds, spells and magic items for players; new monsters, afflictions, herbs, terrain, and weather rules for the DM. In addition, we offer over 60 random encounters and expanded encounters to augment your Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign and full-length adventures legal for the D&D Adventurers League Forgotten Realms and Oracle of War Eberron campaigns!

Those chapters pre-approved for use with D&D Adventurers League campaigns are marked with the DDAL medallion. Other rules content (Chapters 2 and 5) may be used with campaign documentation.

Do you mean the book itself? Or the something else? There are over 60 random encounters and expanded encounter, as well as two full length 4 hour adventures.

How much is usable in Oracle of War?

There is an entire Tier 2 module that looks to be 4-6 hours of online play for the Oracle of War Series.

I was actually wondering more about the subclasses and player options, but thank you! The Cold Spell in the Frostfell adventure sounds interesting.

For Oracle of War, just the adventure is AL-legal unless the player has campaign documentation giving access to anything else.

Can you clarify the Primal Wizard "Starting at 2nd level, you can enter a primal state that lasts for 1 minute"? Is it as an action or bonus action, or free?
Also, the Wizard has so few melee spell attack options, what was the idea behind this? I love the concept, but everything beyond shocking grasp is Cleric or Druid (Inflict Wounds, Flame Blade)

No action to enter the primal state. While there certainly aren't many melee spell attacks for the wizard, there are a few more than shocking grasp. Booming blade and green flame blade are cantrips that fit the bill. Vampiric touch and steel wind strike are also there from "official" sources.

Booming blade and green flame blade work? They are counted as melee spell attacks? I thought they were melee attacks (like Shadow Blade), and thus don't work.

As the person who created the subclass, I consider them melee spell attacks because under the attack type for the spell it says "melee." Shocking grasp and booming blade/green flame blade have the same word there. I don't think doing so is overpowered, and I had those spells in mind when creating the subclass.

It will be very useful and honest to have a list of the pre-approved AL contents in this document...

Was prepping the Eberron adventure inside, and was curious about a modified statblock. The modified statblock for part one appears to have a really odd set of resistances and immunities for what it's supposed to be. Should I assume that one immunity that is a double of a resistance it already has should actually be cold?

Yes, the Spirits necrotic immunity should be cold immunity.

This looks like a lot of fun options!

Should I be able to tell from the sample which chapters are AL-pre-approved?

As regards the other content, I usually play at home and am not up on my AL lingo. What does this mean: "Other rules content may be used with campaign documentation"?

Campaign documentation includes certs acquired from a charity or promo event, or a cert, Adventure Record (Eberron), or story award in a DDAL adventure.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
