Daerdan's Tall Tales: 101 Arctic Encounters

Explore the Frozen Wastes with this Tome of 101 Encounters!

"After my days on the high seas, my treacherous kin had me banished to the frozen wastes where I blazed a trail fierce enough to startle the gods—I swear!" - Daerdan "the Yarnspinner"

Daerdan's Tall Tales: 101 Arctic Encounters is the unawaited sequel to the all-right selling Daerdan's Tall Tales series. It features 119 pages that delve into the frozen wastes, making it perfect for your Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign. Although it is entitled as "the Arctic," the encounters here can be used in mountain ranges or even ordinary lands lost to the grip of winter. Every encounter comes detailed with loot, characters, motives, twists, and advice on how to better tie the event into your campaign. There are over a hundred pages to this supplement utilizing magic items, concepts, lore and monsters found across Volo's Guide to Monsters, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes and other published media!

This supplement contains:

  • Scaling Encounters and Tiers. Most encounters provide details on how to tailor these encounters to better fit your party's level. All four tiers of play are explored throughout the tome with more fearsome encounters (ala At the Mountains of Madness, In the Lair of the Dracolich, and Army of the Damned).
  • Sample Storylines. You can form your own campaign's plot through a series of themed encounters, such as the frost-giant-centric The Ordning of Might, Army of the Damned, Dire Winter, and Eternal Night. This edition features seven sample storylines, each with at least three linked encounters. These encounters can be taken ala carte or used wholesale as the backbone for an entire campaign!
  • Frameworks. Several encounters also provide the framework for challenges such as saving hikers, surviving avalanches, finding buried caches of supplies, and closing rifts to the Plane of Ice.
  • Skill Challenges. Skill Challenges feature heavily in this tome, often as optional additions to an encounter. A relic from 4E, it's rules have been updated to 5th Edition. The adventurers will have to address issues with—gods forbid—their skills, not their swords.
  • Variants Galore. This tome holds even more than 101 encounters, for many provide detailed variants you can run, such as the The Thing's three flavors for an extraterrestial terror!
  • New Monsters, New Items. Unleash untold tomfoolery with a top hat of awakeninto create an evil-version of Frosty the Snowman or rain hell from the legendary sleigh of reindeer flight! Battle penguinweres, wereseals, and cultists of Elemental Evil!
  • Allusions. Fans of folklore and other icy stories will be delighted with encounters like The Thing, The Fortress of Solitude, Greatfather Winter's Fiefdom, and Krampusnacht.
  • Indexed. Every monster and item referenced in this supplement is indexed with its respective manual and page number for your convenience. Almost three hundred unique monsters are used throughout Tall Tales.

Looks like an awesome product. I can't wait to use it. Any chance you can release a printer friendly version for us who have purchased it?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
