Join the most infamous organization in Faerûn, using the secrets within this book to run a campaign featuring the Zhentarim and their stronghold of Darkhold itself.

For centuries, the Zhentarim have been expanding their influence throughout Faerûn. Known as the "Black Network” to outsiders, those within consider themselves part of an extended family that affords them immense opportunities and generously rewards ability and ambition. The great stronghold of the Zhentarim is called Darkhold, a high-spired keep of black stone built to gigantic proportions. There are few places in Faerûn with a more notorious—and nefarious—reputation.

This full-color, 112-page supplement includes:

  • A comprehensive history and guide to the Black Network, including never-before-revealed lore from Ed Greenwood, creator of the Forgotten Realms
  • New subclasses, spells, and other player options
  • New magic items of the Zhentarim
  • Expanded rules for thieves’ cant for integration in your game
  • A guide to the history, operations, and locations within Darkhold, infamous headquarters of the Zhentarim
  • A stunning cutaway map of Darkhold Castle
  • A gazetteer for Sunset Vale including a beautiful map of the region
  • Advice for playing evil characters and running evil campaigns, whether with the Zhentarim or in any other setting
  • Dozens of adventure seeds
  • New creatures and villains, including stunning art of key Zhentarim leaders
  • And much, much more...

Join the Zhentarim... if you dare!

I love this book. It is amazing!

I do have one question about the spell manshoon's mage hand and the grappled condition. Can the magehand drag an opponent in the same way that a grappling character can for half movement?

Thanks for making a wonderful product!

Since this is your intellectual property and it looks like it probably won't become POD, I have to ask:

Since I prefer to have physical things, is it okay if I have a print shop or something print up a physical copy for me?

I admit I mostly love the changes done to the book but I'm confused about some things:

* Is Semmenon no longer canon? My wife and I really loved Ashemmi and his romance since it helped redeem both characters.
* While giving Ashemmi more agency is a good thing, there's no sign of Scyllua Darkhope. What good is giving one female Zhent more agency if you erase the other most prominent one.
* I understand why you wouldn't want a player character faction no longer dabbling in the slave trade but why do they not deal drugs anymore? Drugs weren't even illegal until the 20th century. It seems like a very puritanical false equivalency of slavery with recreational substances.
* Is the events of Ruins of Zhentil Keep/Prince of Lies no longer canon? That was seemingly skipped over in the history despite its importance.

Since it seems like this may never become POD, I have a query:

I'm not particularly familiar with how copyright laws work in regards to things like this...If I've purchased the PDF, would I be able to buy a printed copy of the book from a different book printing service, or would it be illegal for me to get it printed in that manner?

Is there any chance of this ever becoming POD?

I bought the PDF and loved it, but I would buy this again as a hardcover POD in a heartbeat!

Ok first lemme say this is a great supplement and i love it. However there are a few small editing mistakes in there and I know you guys worked with Ed Greenwood on this somewhat so I was wondering how you came up with some of the statistics put forth in the supplement. Stay tuned for my Sunset Vale Guidebook.

Unfortunately this title isn’t supported for POD. We tried, but alas we failed to get it approved!

of course not, at it's heart, we're dealing with Hasbro (nee: Hasbore)

judging by how they run SW, they don't listen to the customer base...

Honestly loving this, it's so delightfully devious. Quick question to clarify the Spellthief's 9th-level "Mark the Prey" feature:

The Insight check, would that presumably be opposed by the creature's Deception check?
Customer avatar
Anthony J April 12, 2021 3:37 pm UTC
It should be a Wisdom (Insight) check contested against the creatures Charisma (Deception) check.

I too am curious if you plan to do this for the other factions, this sounds like such a great idea. Can't wait to read it.

Would it be possible for all of the stat blocks and art for the various items and characters to be separated into another file or folder?

I feel like this would make it easier to find this information, as well as giving the DM a way to share each individual item with the players for reference. Honestly, I'd pay extra for a compendium like this.

I have binged the whole book, and it's great stuff! I'm trying to incorporate Darkhold into a campaign that I'm already running for roll20 and I'm bumping into two problems I'm trying to suss out.

The first is that I'm not sure which maps I can actually show my players. Even the ones without notes seem like they contain massive spoilers.

The other is about how to go about doing something in terms of folding it into my campaign, but I'm not sure if this is the place to ask these questions.

I wanted to let you know this product is absolutely amazing and I love it. My players are really into their factions and try to pick up faction missions as often as they can. I do have one question for you. Are you planning on making a book for each of the factions? I would easily pay for every single one of these for each faction. The faction spells are amazing and I love awarding faction equipment for ranking up and a job well done. Please make more of these for the other factions. I love how this came out. I have printed off and laminated my own copy and would love for more.

Rules Edition(s)
Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
