When miners in Termalaine, one of the towns of Ten-Towns, unknowingly discover a new source of the mysterious and powerful chardalyn, powerful foes from the Underdark take note and begin their own investigation. Strange things begin to happen around Termalaine, and heroes find themselves drawn into a mystery with few obvious answers. Can they discover the truth of the sinister mechanisms at play before Ten-Towns is destroyed--or worse, before the mind flayers learn everything they're after?

This adventure is a one-shot horror-mystery designed to scale level levels 10 to 20, optimized for level 15. In it, heroes must solve a unique mystery and battle deadly mind flayers in a fight for the future of Termalaine. As an unofficial prequel to Rime of the Frostmaiden, this book easily stands alone but is also designed to provide further hooks into the ongoing story of Icewind Dale and Rime. Purchasing this product gets you:

  • A full PDF adventure designed to scale between levels 10-20 with deadly combat and challenging hooks
  • A screen reader-friendly PDF of the adventure
  • An original battlemap ready for online play

All Icewind Dale adventures play best with Player Primer: Icewind Dale, which provides framework for players to understand Icewind Dale and build heroes that feel connected to the region.

Hey! This is not intended as a prequel that leads directly into Rime. This is intended as a "mood setting" prequel, played with different characters. It's set some time before Rime, and features deadly combat. The goal is to introduce players to some themes, villains, and items present in Rime. It makes a great "action opener" if your party prefers to start big before jumping back down to level 1, and it does feature potential for failure that, if utilized, could dramatically change the face of Ten-Towns for your Rime play.

Right, I think I missunderstood this part " As an unofficial prequel to Rime of the Frostmaiden, this book easily stands alone but is also designed to provide further hooks into the ongoing story of Icewind Dale and Rime". Sounds interesting, but I think for my party works best a "real" prequel, meaning a 1st level adventure that servers as a proper introduction to the Rime of the Frostmaiden campaing. Thanks for the answer.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
