Nightmare Village

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Something is wrong in the frontier village of Ash Raven. The town, known for its masterful woodworking and fine fur pelts has gone silent. The only news anyone has heard from the town in the past three months is the story of a wandering beggar who speaks of a cursed valley, where “violence never ends.”

When a group of adventurers arrive to investigate, all seems well, until nightfall when a strange wind blows in from the mountain valleys, carrying with it a powerful evil that turns the village into a killing field.

Can the players solve the mystery of what evil holds Ash Raven in its clutches, or will they too fall prey to the Nightmare Village?

This tension filled mystery pits the party against an ancient hag that has trapped a small village in a timeloop. Every night, the villagers of Ash Raven fall into a violent madness; only to wake up in their beds the next day with no memory of the death and destruction that took place the night before. Your players will have a limited amount of time to solve the mystery, track down the hag, and save Ash Raven from this violent curse before they too lose their memories and become trapped, in the never ending cycle of violence.

Hey, really like the adventure, lot of background to work with, couple of choices, seems pretty good.
Just two small notes (SPOILERS......)

1) At some point you have a deadly encounter, which states "when" the party dies. Does that mean, you HAVE to kill the party? I don't mind making "impossible" encounters for plot, but maybe it's best to have some sort of "backup" idea in case one or more party members survive (like a mobile monk with way too much movement speed peacing out when the rest of his party goes down?). Or did I just misunderstand something?
2) For me some of the monster statblocks cut off at their last sentence, that might be just me, but I've tried it both in google chrome and adobe reader... so :s

Other than that, seems great :)

Hey Lars,

Thanks for the feedback. So, the intention is to kill the PCs the first night. Even in playtests, there were a few characters that got away so your point is well made. I'll add an update to the text that gives a few suggestions on what to do should this happen. I basically just made it impossible for the characters to leave. They'd run out of town and into the woods and just have them arrive back at the edge of town, magically. But I can see where that would be a problem. As for the stat blocks, I'm not sure what the deal is there. I'll go in and make sure the formatting is correct.

Thanks.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
