Phantasms of Sri Raji

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The thematic sequel to Curse of Strahd that you’ve been waiting for is here! Phantasms of Sri Raji takes PCs from levels 13-15 all the way up through level 20, pitting them against a rakshasa lord, tasking them with escaping the prison that is his ironic punishment.

THRILLING ADVENTURES: Participate in a heist and a burglary! Solve an escape room with a ghost! Get shrunk down to a tiny size and face undead insects! Brave a hedge maze, followed by a maze of mirrors! Face a villain who moves about his palace, rather than waiting for you to come and fight him!

HORRIFIC MONSTERS: Blood elementals, lashweeds, psionic yuan-ti, and a medusa lich! Rakshasa-pact warlocks, auspex nothics, fiendish spirits, and more!

MORE MAGIC: Two old spells—bind undead and sticks to snakes—plus a new one to aid travel, home to stone!

CLASSIC LORE: Fans of the old Ravenloft setting will find much to recognize: the Greater Raiments of Clarity, the Cat of Felkovic, the wizard Tindafulus, the nalfeshnee Malistroi, and more! Enjoy new twists, lore, and ideas, appended to classic 2nd edition adventures!

LAVISH TREASURES: The old mouse cart from 2nd edition enjoys new life! Plus, the wondrous Codex Serpentum can exert its baleful influence on anyone. Beware the eldritch perfume, Essence of Joy; its charming power is said to come at a price. And of course legends tell of Shar’s Bane, Sêlune’s Murti, and the Ishvara Sutra. Can you find them?

EXCITING COMPANIONS: Will the PCs ally with a jade golem, a former ghost, an oracular sorcerer, a were-leopard assassin, or someone else? Only the cards will tell!

A TAROKKA READING: It wouldn’t be Ravenloft without one! Enjoy the adventure multiple times, as companions are re-cast and the locations of key items are reshuffled with each reading of the Barovian cards! Don’t have a Tarokka deck? Never fear; it’s compatible with a regular card deck, too!

Hey, so running this right now and my group is just entering the mirror maze in Mahakala. I'm a little confused about D3-I, since the referenced area C-18 doesn't exist. Should it reference D3-P instead?

Yes! Or at least I believe so. I'm actually reviewing this content, in order to release an errata. Please let me know what you ended up doing, as this reply is unfortunately a bit late (apologies)!

I've found a few more bits like this, would it be best to compile them into an email to lend a hand? My group has loved the adventure so far!

With the new Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, now would be great time for DMsGuild to give a PoD option for this title!

I have yet to run this with my group, but I have some concerns based on my read through so far, mostly having to do with the maps provided.

1. The detail given on the contents of rooms is extremely limited, which makes for a very wishy-washy atmosphere, I wish there were more details given like in COS, tell me the colors, tell me what paintings hang on walls, tell me what decor is present.

2. The maps are isometric, which is troublesome in itself, and in my attempts to create battlemaps from the isometric view, I've found some issues in regards to the layout of some of these maps: For example, Ramanand's house first level seems to indicate that room G is an 8x8 room, but when drawn to scale (17*18) - the sizes they indicate just don't fit. If I assume it's 18*18, it fits, but then the other rooms are bigger than they should be (This may be because of the isometric view). In general, the maps are lack-luster.

3. Coming from Barovia, this setting feels somehow less impactful,...See more

Also, None of the adventure hooks seem to come straight from Barovia, all of them assume the PC's have gone back to their "Home World". This campaign is supposed to be a sequel to COS, so I would've expected to see at least ONE story hook that takes place in Barovia.

Hello, and thank you very much for your purchase! I apologize for the isometric maps' simplicity; the module was written before COVID and without VTTs in mind. Please understand that I am working on a map pack, with which to update this module. I will make it available for free once it is complete, of course.

I am surprised at your claims about my prose! Here are just a few--a tiny sample of very, very many--excerpts from my descriptive text. Please note the attention to sensory detail, as well as my use of descriptive verbs to "show" rather than "tell":

"Various knives, hooks, needles, and pincer-like tools dangle from this room’s walls. In the very center sits a long table with manacles attached to it. The table is stained a dark reddish-brown."

"Shimmering orange curtains drape the foyer’s walls. A low table waits at the center, surrounded by plush cushions. Nearby, a single wooden cabinet sports an ornately-decorated keyhole. To...See more

Jason, I agree that you have the capability of great prose and depth of detail, my comment was mainly regarding some of the earlier areas, such as the prison in Pakat, or Ramamands house.

I'm able to make up some of my own stuff to throw in there, so it's fine, it was more of a missed expectation on my part.

I appreciate the work you've put into this project, and would love to beta-test the battlemaps for you, as we'll likely be starting in Sri Raji in two weeks, which unfortunately for me, means I've got some work to do before then.

On that topic - Page 67, left column, 17th line down has a spelling error - the word "into' is said twice, here's the excerpt:

"His life force was transferred into into his
arcane focus"

I would absolutely love it if you could provide this in a format that is easier to make notes with - I know there's copyright concerns with sharing a word document, but as it sits, I have to manually copy the text...See more

Jason,

Thanks for the maps! I had already cobbled together my own maps for a lot of the campaign, but I had not worked on Makahala at all, so this is helpful, it's crazy how close some of your maps are to the ones I made :D.

I appreciate the update, thank you.

Is it possible to run this without doing CoS first, does it stand alone as my group wants to do a high level campaign?

(also, as people have asked about the maps before, are they in a separate file now?)

It is absolutely possible to run this without running "Curse of Strahd!"

The module presupposes nothing about the PCs' prior adventures. It is a thematic sequel to "Curse of Strahd," not a chronological one.

A .zip file indeed has better versions of the maps, although the maps are isometric and monochrome; they are not adapted for Roll20 or a VTT. That being said, I hope to have updated maps that *can* be used for VTT before the year's end (at which point the file will be updated and everyone who owns it can download it for free.) :-)

Would be interested in knowing how easy it is to use this module on virtual tabletops. Are only region and town maps included, or are there battle maps that I can use on Roll20? Looking for something I can use to continue running games for my Curse of Strahd party and this seems to fit the bill, but it depends how much work it would be to play it online. Thanks!

Thanks for asking, Josh! Right now, the module does not have battle maps that are convenient for Roll20. I think it's important to fix this, however, so it's something I'm working on.

Ah, good idea! The maps look better when not compressed. (The next module is in the works now, and having both better maps and more art is a priority this time.) Thanks for the reminder; I'll see if I can add that in the near future. Thank you very much for running the adventure!

Hi Michael! I have added the original .png files of the interior maps, in a separate archived folder, to the existing module. I will see about a printer-friendly version, although this may take a bit longer, since it requires going back to the original text and making some changes. I will post here if there is progress on that. Thanks again for your interest!

It is indeed! The first chapter, summarizing his curse and situation, is visible in the full-size preview (although it spoils some adventure contents)! Ravenloft certainly deserves all the love it gets! Thanks for your interest!

Hi Randall, thank you for your interest! As the Guild points out, this matter is not up to the authors; print-on-demand is by invitation only, and likely depends on what they can afford to keep in their print rotation:

https://support.dmsguild.com/hc/en-us/articles/217029298-Content-and-Format-Questions

I would of course love it as well as be honored to receive a print option, as I'm sure so many Guild members would be, of course!

This looks absolutely amazing. I have a printed copy of Web of Illusions and always wanted to take on Sri Raj. Your care to remove problematic and racist components makes me want this even more!

Unfortunately, the price to BRL is too damn high :(

Also, let me know if you have any interest in localizing the adventure to Brazilian Portuguese.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
