"[..] those who do dwell in and near marshes will tell you of their bounty, from fish and frogs for the cooking-fire to reeds for thatching roofs, and bog-muck that makes crops grow with almost frightening speed and vigor to a rich array of abundant, life-saving medicinal plants—to say nothing of herbs for dishes bound for even the finest dining tables. So, sparsely-tapped wells of bounty that are best stayed well away from." - Ed Greenwood (excerpt from Foreword)

"Swamps are, beyond a shadow of doubt, one of the least pleasant geographical features through which one can travel. They’re muggy, they flood, they’re full of deadly creatures, and it’s easy for disease and rot to flourish. I will not go so far as to say that no civilization can be found in them; gnolls, lizardfolk, bullywugs, trolls, and the like are able to carve out niches successfully in swamps, in large part due to their flexibility. By living with nature, taking what the swamp provides, and not trying to change it into something it isn’t, these civilizations can flourish on their own terms."

- Amarune Whitewave

Amarune's Almanac: Swamps of the Realms is the sixth in a multipart series exploring the eight biomes of Dungeons & Dragons within the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.

Swamps of the Realms explores the icky yet bountiful biome of swamps. In our travels, we've found new and old flora, fauna, and history to bring to you about the fens and mires of the Realms. Swamps of the Realms does this through both narrative prose, written from the perspective of Amarune Whitewave (the great, great granddaughter of Elminster Aumar), and through occasional notes from her husband, editor, and traveling companion Arclath Delcastle.

Contained with this 56-page tome, you'll get:

  • 2 new subclasses

    • the Circle of the Fen druid which seeks to expand on the land (swamp) druid.

    • and the Bogshadow, a conclave of Rangers who linger in the darkness of swamps, prepared to strike with all the land's vitriol.

  • Variant rules: expansions to the Druid and Ranger classes to allow them more access to the new spells contained within this book!

  • 10 spells: each using a new spellcasting component, Environment, as they each rely on the boons of the world around them.
+1 bonus spell, druidic practice, which is the Druid version of the ceremony spell for Clerics.

  • 10 magic items: drawn from muck below the still water of the bogs.

  • 11 monsters: new creatures for Wild Shaping, mounts, and companions!

  • 21 flora: the thriving bounty of the swamps. Roots, lichens, and hearty plants that you can collect and use to create all manner of items, as well as improve some spells.

  • Downtime activities: A gathering expedition specifically designed to find and collect the flora described in this book.

  • 5 location stories: Straight from the journal of Amarune Whitewave herself, stories of their expeditions into five notable Faerûn swamps: The Evermoors, Flooded Forest, Great Swamp of Rethild, Mere of Dead Men, and Vast Swamp.

  • A map of Faerûn: Updated for 5th Edition, this book contains a two-page map of Faerûn covering the Sword Coast all the way to the Plains of Purple Dust

  • Also included is a separate high-resolution PDF of the map in both colored and Printer Friendly, available to print on 8.5"x11" or 11"x17"

  • Journal-style sketch art by Shiah "Cinder" Irgangladen and Nathanaël Roux and several other full color pieces throughout the book, combined with a field-journal document style, complete with spilled ink

  • Content and a foreword written by the creator of Forgotten Realms, Ed Greenwood, himself.

Hola. A tiny little typo. The regional flora table on page 30 has Turmish, Tymanther, and Unther listed twice. With different answers.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
