Want to run Storm King's Thunder but overwhelmed by the scope of the adventure and the number of supplements available on DM's Guild? This 75-page+ guidebook aids a DM in every way, providing advice on how to connect plot threads and run the adventure, advising on how to integrate content from key supplements, and enhancing the story through new and improved encounters.  It is designed to save tons of time and effort for DMs without the experience or time to do all the work necessary to make the most of Storm King's Thunder, but contains enough innovation and practical advice to be useful for even the most dedicated and experienced DMs - including new magic items, player handouts, quest cards and monster variations.

I know what you're thinking -- Storm King's Thunder, how timely!  Well, it has taken some time to DM Storm King's Thunder multiple times and compile notes into a sensible and helpful guidebook for DM's.  If you are thinking it's too late to make use of something like this, check it out and you may be dusting SKT off soon!

Hey Kelnas,

Thanks for your work on this. SKT can be a little intimidating. My question is about the teleportation conches the giant lords have. Are you saying that 1 conch teleports 1 person, which is the reason for collecting more than one conch? If not, why bother going after more than one?

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks for writing! Yes, my suggestion in the guidebook is to motivate the PCs to visit all (or at least more than one) of the giant lairs by by limiting the teleportation power of each conch to one person (or perhaps two people per conch for a large party). This is described on p. 32 under Eye of Annan (second paragraph) and p. 33 under The Oracle (first bullet). There are lots of ways to run it of course (including the one conch/one giant lair approach as written in SKT), but I just love the giant lairs and think many players will appreciate having a reason to visit more than just one in the campaign.

Hi Kelnas, I have your product and have found it very useful and insightful, however I have a query relating to the encounter with the Kraken Society Cultist. What is he doing before the attack by the Crag cat? Why does he flee with the child and to what purpose? I understand this is to foreshadow the existence of the KS but it appears to lack a rationale.

Thanks Byrom, glad you are finding it helpful. Good question, I probably should have fleshed that out a bit more. There are lots of possibilities, but in my mind his original goal was to get to Yartar to join the KS enclave there (perhaps he received a telepathic tip), and on his way he encountered the travelling family so decided to join them and abduct someone at an opportune moment to take to Yartar as a gift. After getting injured in the first crag cat attack, he decides the time is now during the second attack. Hope that helps.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
