The Skull of Drag'Nalar

A powerful magic item has been stolen, and is rending the fabric of the Material Plane. You must find the thieves' hideout in the swamp, make your way past undead and demonic creatures, and retrieve the Skull of Drag'Nalar before the portal it opens to The Abyss becomes permanent and demonic hordes come pouring through.

Content Warning: This adventure has horror imagery. An optional encounter seems to endanger an infant. (See the third page reproduced below, or check out the "vugogumath" in Appendix A in the Full-size Preview)

A challenging adventure for 3rd - 5th level characters that can be played in 4-6 hours. Makes a great capstone for the end of Tier I, or an exciting intro to Tier II - especialy for campaigns that will feature extra-planar adventuring.

3 new magic items

3 new monsters, including the legless zombie

Can be integrated into almost any ongoing campaign. Guidance is given to help you adapt NPCs and locations to fit your campaign.

Full set of maps, including both gridded and ungridded player maps.

three pages from the adventure

"Extremely well-designed ... a good balance of very few combat encounters, but the ones it does have are very meaningful with very tough opponents and interesting environmental hazards ... this is the gold standard of how to use a skill challenge in an adventure."

A great standalone adventure - the difficulty modifies easily to match party needs, and the creepy/horror theme is consistent throughout, which creates a great build. Played it as a super fun one-shot, but the outcome was so dynamic that it was folded [...]

Kasey (Player): We needed to retrieve the skull in 6 hours or a dark portal would bring chaos into the world. I don't think overall it was too hard. I feel the beginning was a little enemy dense. I feel like they tried to keep the en [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
