A Light in the Dark

ADD TO WISHLIST >
As part of the Dead Three’s attempt to shatter confidence in the Flaming Fist, they have sent an agent to Rowl Island (a small island guarding some reefs at the entrance of the Chionthar River – the river that Baldur’s Gate sits beside) to interrupt trade from the north into Baldur's Gate.

There have been two shipwrecks, three near-misses, and reports of the lighthouse not working within the last week. Will the party find out what is happenning and save the lighthouse or will they too become victims.

Take your players on an adventure to find out what has happened to the lighthouse on Rowl Island.
A 4-8 Hour adventure for levels 8-10.

From a review by The Alexandrian (see https://thealexandrian.net/wordpress/45502/roleplaying-games/remixing-avernus-addendum-dms-guild-capsule-reviews-iii)

"A Light in the Dark bills itself as tying into the continuity of Descent Into Avernus, but it’s set in Baldur’s Gate while having a suggested level at which PCs in the campaign will have long since left Baldur’s Gate behind. Its purpose, therefore, is somewhat confusing.

The maps are nice and the concept is fine, but the adventure itself is virtually unplayable. It’s more or less written as a Choose Your Own Adventure novel, consisting of literally just pages and pages (and pages!) of horribly executed boxed text. Often this boxed text is outlining literal A or B choices. It repeatedly ends with the refrain, “What do you want to do?” literally scripted in. And it is constantly either telling the players what their characters do or simply leaving them helplessly standing by while entire scenes play out without their...See more

Thanks for the feedback. I am sorry the adventure was not to your taste.

The "What do you want to do?" is, as you probably know, directed towards the players asking them what they would like to do. The box text is, as per all box text, suggestion only. If you want to use it great, if not don't. The nature of these adventures is to suggested an outline and provide some basics but to leave it up to the imagination of the DM and the players to go where they will.

It is my first published module and I will get better with time.

This product was tested and loved by two different groups. One private and one at public session at a small con in NZ. The players in both cases used their own minds to create variety in each session.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
