THE WHITEFAIRE ADVENTURERS GUIDE: A PLAYER AND DM SUPPLEMENT

"...The Dark Peaks team has done an excellent job of creating a unique region that has its own distinct flavor while still holding to that traditional D&D feel.... Whitefaire Adventurer’s Guide has all of the information you would need to carry out a full campaign, or more, in another region of the Faerun. It’s elegantly written with an extensive history and a dash of humor...."

Roll4Network

The cold land of Whitefaire is riven with rivals and conflicts. Now, with their absent queen plotting her return, the stage is set for conflict and war which could tear this fractured region apart.

This adventure sourcebook is for DM's and players looking for a cold and icy setting for their campaigns.

Created independently by the Dark Peaks team, this 96 page long sourcebook takes adventurers to this icy cold northern realm of Whitefaire, which sits upon the border of the Savage Frontier. In this choatic, ungoverned realm is the undiscovered treasure of Whitefaire amber, a hugely powerful magical resource. Exploring themes such as colonialism, self-determination, and survival, this book explains the underlying structures, lore and history of Whitefaire.

This book includes:

- Two new races: the Frostkin are natives of Whitefaire, long hardened to snow and frost, who are always accompanied by their faithful Husky dog companion. The Werellama is an individual carrying a very specific curse of lycanthropism, able to slip into a different form to spit, kick, bite and travel quickly across the land.

- Three new subclasses: The Frost Strider is a ranger heavily skilled in survival amongst the snow, while the Storm Caller uses the power of ice and frost to their advantage. The Deep Domain cleric watches out for miners and diggers, using their power to protect and profit from such a dark business.

- Rules for snowy and arctic environments, including blizzards, ice-climbing, ice-lakes, glaciers and snowball fights!

- Rules for the use of snow sleds for travel across Whitefaire, including a choice of pack animal. These rules also include how to fight from a sled and how to create exciting sled chases across the fields and forests of Whitefaire.

- Rules for the use and sale of Whitefaire Amber, a heavily controlled substance with powerful magical properties.

- The Blood Red Snow - An included adventure for 4 player characters at level 2-3, which involves the hunt for a lost officer and stands as an introduction to the realm of Whitefaire and its threats.

And much more, including the goblins nations, the other power groups within Whitefaire, specific equipment, profiles of powerful people and a full set of statblocks to support them.

For use with the fifth edition Player’s HandbookMonster Manual, and Dungeon Master’s Guide, the Whitefaire Adventurer’s Guide provides the setting, story, and character options needed to participate in a campaign within, above and below this frozen land.

I talked about it on my Twitch channel (maybe you still have time to watch it before the video is lost in time and space!), but thanks to Patreon I can make my review eternal! First of all, maybe I'm not the best reviewer on the planet. I don't really know what I'm doing: I'm just going to randomly chat about nerd (and icy, in this case) stuff with you, so don't expect a super serious and professional post.

Whitefaire is like a world inside the bigger world of Forgotten Realms: you can have your characters travel towards this land, but you can also play heroes born here and just ignore what happens outside it. Despite being a world of small cities, tribes (and werellamas), the setting offers no little amount of political play, if your group likes the idea. I like the idea. And it is also a setting that is well suited for morally grey stories and characters. In fact, we have a monopolistic organization exploiting the land, tribes who struggle against outsiders exploiting their homes, and...See more

There's two downloads included in the downloads section. Are these documents different from each other in some way?
First glance, looks awesome! Picked this up for the survival / arctic hazards rules.
Have you considered reducing the size of your pdfs? 349 MB is pretty hefty. Most DM's Guild pdfs seem to sit around 3-4 MB. Would cut down on your download times.

Thank you so much. I wasn't aware of the two downloads, I've amended it now so it's just the updated version of the text - I caught some edits which I'd missed.

As for the comments - sure, I'll look into shrinking it, that's great advice. This is the first large publication I've done on DMSguild, and we're still working out the details as we go. I hope you enjoy the survival rules, and check out the sledding rules in particular, we're really proud of them.

Enjoy :D

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
