Murder on The Primewater Pleasure

ADD TO WISHLIST >

You recently did Gellan Primewater, a local merchant from the Town of Saltmarsh, a great service by recovering property deeds worth a large sum of money, long thought to be lost. In return, Gellan is throwing you a party on his cruise ship, the *Primewater Pleasure*. ....

Then, in the midst of festivities, a scream.

One of the guests is found murdered, and the weekend cruise is plunged into chaos. You must all dive in and find the murderer before the ship gets back to shore, and the murderer escapes..

*Title has been updated! For updated file download the "Murder on the Primewater Pleasure 2.0" pdf file*

This is a murder mystery which includes full colour maps of the Primewater Pleasure (player versions included). Fleshed out NPCs with motivations and secrets, as well as clues for your players to find, all in an attempt to uncover the truth. Your characters are trapped on the ship with the murderer and must find them before they strike again. Like all good murder mysteries this one contains a rather dungeons and dragons style twist.

The table of contents includes links to all NPCs as well as every chapter for that sweet sweet quality of life improvement.

This adventure is designed for 4th level characters. It is designed to fit in with the Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign but could also fit in to any setting or even be its own standalone adventure.

This is my first adventure so all of your support would be greatly appreciated! I hope you enjoy and I welcome any feedback you might have!

It would be an absolute dream come true if this product were to become an Adamantine best seller (the higest award on DMsguild). If you enjoyed please consider purchasing it, as free downloads do not count towards this best seller goal. I think the minimum amount to contribute towards this goal is just $0.20 USD. Of course if you can't afford to pay for the product that is completely fine too! Either way leaving a rating and a review would really help too. Thank you all so much

If you enjoyed this product, why not check out my other best-selling work?

The Madman Behind the Pews - A horror adventure that where the characters must investigate a haunted church and fight a strange evil (5th level)

The Horrors Beneath Hopen'er Asylum - A horror adventure that takes place in and below an old mental asylum. (6th - 7th level)

Thordin Battleaxe's Tome of Adventure - A unique book specifically designed for brand new GMs. It contains a one shot adventure but is also packed full of great advice to help brand new GMs run adventures. (3rd level characters)

How long does this take to run? Looking to run it at a charity event but time is limited.

I thought this was a fine rendition of MotPP: https://youtu.be/p9FqHxsUP24 (episodes 16,17). It looks like it’s been ported to some VTT… I did not recognize it.

Currently running the adventure, just wanna ask a question about Wexley 'The Wizard' Lancaster's enduring book. Its supposed to be a spellbook with all the spells a mage has? Meaning every wizard spell in the game? Then its coded so the party has a hard time trying to learn all the spells? Am i getting that right?

Anyways still on the 1st session so im just worried if my PCs start looting everything and come across the book.

Hi there, the spellbook contains all the spell that the mage statblock found in the monster manual has. Let me know if you've got any more questions :)

I bought this but I need to edit some things because I purchased it after my players have already killed Primewater for his shady-ness in our game. They are all also 8th level now as I’ve been mulling this over for some time.

Has anyone run into something similar that has any ideas?

I was looking for something a little different for my players (level 7) while we were working through Saltmarsh, and this was absolutely perfect. They had no idea what was going on until we were in the middle, and then they loved it! The surprise, the clues, everything. I beefed up the fight, but otherwise didn't really have to make adjustments. Thanks for this!

I think that's because they're published on DMsGuild, not drivethrurpg. You can find them all here https://www.dmsguild.com/browse.php?author=Liam%20Murray

Thanks for the heads up :)

Very welcome, this DTRPG / DMsGuild split irritates the crap out of me when trying to search my favorite authors. I just filed a formal support ticket for it.

I got this adventure off of reddit. It was SUPERFUN! I ran it for a party of four 5th level characters and it worked perfectly! I did change the adventure a bit to match my homebrew setting and make the sessions go a bit smoother, but overall, when the party finally found Skerrin's bag of material components, everything clicked. Thank you so much for this awesome side-quest. I will surely be checking out your other adventures as well.

Thanks for sharing this quest with me on Reddit. I ran this with my party (3-level 6s) and we had an absolute blast! I can't recommend this module enough to anyone who is running Ghosts of Saltmarsh; this module helps bring the lore of saltmarsh alive into your campaign and is not completely combat oriented. There is a lot of nuance in the characters and its easy as a DM to incentivize players to RP and talk to people!

So, one major issue is that the Ring of Mind Shielding doesn't actually do anything to stop a Zone of Truth: https://www.sageadvice.eu/2016/06/24/does-a-ring-of-mindshielding-protect-against-a-zone-of-truth/

Yes you are quite right, good catch! Unfortunately as I was writing the adventure I misinterpreted the meaning, as I believe the wording is a small bit ambiguous. This was my first project so it's only natural for there to be a mistake or two. In the future I intend to do re-release of the product. When I do I will fix any mistakes like this, I will re-edit it to make it look nicer and have a more organised layout, and finally I will add a few more possible clues. Unfortunately I don't have the time right now to do that but I'll get around to it!
Until then I'll give the following advice to any DMs running my adventure:
Firstly here is another tweet from Mr. Crawford. https://twitter.com/jeremyecrawford/status/1151295401791651840?lang=en . It says that as the DM you decide on the rules. You could decide that the ring of mind shielding does protect the wearer from the zone of truth spell as written in the adventure.
Alternatively, you could keep the ring of mind shielding in the adventure, but...See more

Just some sage old DM advice.. You can make up whatever you want in your game. I flat out tell my players.. no psionics, it's a pain in the rear, I don't want firearms in my game, it's game breaking. In my game you can have a crappy blunderbuss, but you'd be better off throwing the iron ball with a sling.

That said, be very VERY careful when manipulating game rules to adjust the logic or flow of a scenario. It can leave the player(s) with the wrong impressions of how that game mechanics work, which could come back to XXX you later, or worse, make that / those players get mad at a DM / GM, years down the road, for changing the rules.

It would be much safer to say something like 'Arngor, the local demi-god of mischief pulled some strings in the space-time continuum to make it APPEAR that the Zone of Truth failed, by weakening the magic that knit it together. Yes, I know, that sounds like nonsense. You can device.. build a plot device.. around the concept, just try to stick within the limitations...See more

Hey James, good question, the difference between the original and the 2.0 pdf is that I've included a proper solution to the 'zone of truth problem' other than just hand waving the problem away. As well as that the new version has been reformatted to make it nicer to read and easier to find information.

I'm not sure what the .mod file is, I can't find it in the download files, could you maybe be a bit more specific please.

Hope this helps :)

Hey there Jessica! First things first, depending on how quickly your group find the clues/interrogate the NPCs the actual adventure could take anywhere between 4 to upwards of 8 hours. So unless you have that amount of time consider splitting it into two sessions.
Secondly, make sure you read through all the NPC motives and stuff in their profiles and try your best to understand the relationships between them (maybe write it out/organise it in a way that makes sense to you, like in a relationship chart similar to the one included in the appendix). If you do this it'll make the adventure so much easier to run.
If you don't mind me asking what is the experience level of the other players? It might be handy to have an experienced player around to help you with rules so you can focus on running the adventure.
Other than that, without more information, I can't give you a whole pile of useful advice. I'd say its worth a shot and you and your players should have fun :)
If you've any other questions...See more

I played this with my group of five Level-3 players. It took two 4-hour sessions to play, and I felt it was a tremendous success. The players did not figure out who the murderer was until the very end. When they did solve the whodunnit, the combat was exciting, intense and deadly. The heroes returned to Saltmarsh with a few new pieces of nice equipment and some political leverage in their pockets. Loved it!

Running this tomorrow afternoon as their 6th Saltmarsh session. Two players at level 6 - neither of them access to any revivify or anything of the sort - and most of the campaign is RP focussed, not that combat-heavy. Looking forward to see what they make of it - great write-up, 1-2 small typos/mistakes but nothing confusing. Love that you made Skerrin die first, clever approach to the story!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
