"A quick glance down the authors column of this high quality book reveals some of my favourite D&D creators - and they certainly deliver the goods! Everyone will find something to love in this fantastic volume. The DM in me really enjoyed the new sanity rules, the story items, and - chaos armor! Players will savor the host of new subclass options. And the whole thing looks FANTASTIC - as if it just rolled off the presses from WOTC. This book will sell thousands..." — M.T. Black, DM's Guild veteran author/designer

Xanathar’s Lost Notes to Everything Else is a massive collaboration of DMs Guild Adepts that expands the options for players and dungeon masters presented in the D&D core rulebooks and supplements, and has now been adapted for use in the Fantasy Grounds virtual tabletop.

This sourcebook provides a plethora of scribbles, scrolls, and schemes curated by Volothamp Geddarm’s protégé, Aladair, pilfered from Xanathar prior to publication of his Guide to Everything. Presented in the crime syndicate’s unique style, including a high fashion collector’s cover, the DMs Guild Adepts bring you new player options, including subclasses for every class, backgrounds, magic items, a race, DM rules options, and an adventure!

I picked up the print edition of Xanathar's Lost Notes back in 2018. The adventure "All Eyes on Chult" is a quality introduction for Tomb of Annihilation, and the compendium of magic items is a fun addition. But looking through the book now, I've found that the print edition itself has a variety of format issues including images that overlap text. Also, archetypes like the Sacred Kin, the Burghal Explorer, and the Mage Hunter have fundamental power issues and flaws that simply do not live up to the archetype themes they are meant to represent.

With the release of the Fantasy Grounds edition, is there an update in the works for the digital and print editions that will correct these issues?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
