Return to the Glory (5e)

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Your people once dominated everything south of the mountains; you had the greatest, most advanced underground stronghold ever known to orc-kind. Then the cataclysm happened. Centuries have passed, and only a few tribes have survived and assembled under the banner of one cause. Reclaim what was once yours!

This adventure is designed for four to six orc characters, levels 6 to 8.

All proceeds from your purchase are donated to Red Nose Day.

Red Nose Day is a campaign with the mission to end child poverty by funding programs that keep children safe, healthy, and educated. Through the power of entertainment, they bring people together to laugh and have fun, all while raising life-changing cash for the children that need it the most. Since their debut in 2015, they have raised $200 million and have positively impacted over 25 million children in America, and around the world.

We (Wizards) recognize that some of the legacy content available on this website does not reflect the values of the Dungeons & Dragons franchise today. Some older content may reflect ethnic, racial, and gender prejudice that were commonplace in American society at that time. These depictions were wrong then and are wrong today. This content is presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed. Dungeons & Dragons teaches that diversity is a strength, and we strive to make our D&D products as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This part of our work will never end.

I remember a solo adventure for wizards is the 3.5, is there anything like that for Sorcerer or WArlocks?

How difficult would it be to retool this adventure to work in Eberron?
I know the history of Orcs in Eberron is quite different, so maybe it wouldn't work at all.
Just curious!
Thanks

I had considered this, as well, as I'm a huge Eberron fan, but ultimately I opted to just run it in the Realms.
I think the conversion wouldn't be huge, but on the front end, there is a lot tying this to the Orc pantheon and Gruumsh. As such, brute force and savagery is a common theme.
However, although I'm not finished running it for my group, I have completed setup and the mod seems very heavy on soft skills when I would have expected more "feats of strength" to be present. So, ironicially, I think we've rolled more INT-based checks than STR checks. Which... INT is going to be the dump stat for anyone who you let build their character.
Some more guidance in this regard, or as someone else mentioned pregens, would go a long way.

38 pages including cover and credits. There are 73 marked locations on the map described in 5E fashion.

So reading through this, am I the only one missing on where the entrance is? It reads as if the Area 1 is done first, but Im sure that doesnt have to be the case. Is it up to the DM on which random tunnel leads into this map? Very open for a DM to play with, but oddly specific in other areas...

Yes, but only for Orc/HalfOrc characters in the FR campaign, and in the level range (6-8)...so its not merely Tier2. There are tweets and FB posts that go over those details with it to show in the catalog soon.

I’m just midway through prep for it, but it’s feeling like 5-9, 4 hour sessions to me with the group I’m planning on running it for. A nice, mid length mini campaign...

I realize that this is for charity purposes, so good on WOTC. However, this product seems like it needed a little more time for fine tuning before it was rolled out.

Agreed; just a few little steps would have made this a full on 10/10 for me... still looks like it will be a blast to run through, but a player handout/summary of the tribes and their omens/superstitions would have been nice... as well as more... flow? synergy? between the location encounters and the map’s overall shape/layout... as is, the map and encounters feel a bit awkward.
Still very excited, and happy to play... just takes a little DM finagling to get to where it could have been. For me, a solid 8/10...

Red Nose Day has been around in the UK since 1988. Just saying.

The first Red Nose Day was 1988.

Comic relief was founded in 1985 and their first live fundraising event was 1986, but it was called “Comic Relief Utterly Utterly Live“, not Red Nose Day.

Ok.
Well, the first Red Nose Day put on by Comic Relief US (not the same as Comic Relief USA which I remember having telethons on HBO), the sister charity to the UK-based Comic Relief, was in 2015. I assume the money donated from this will be going to the US-based organization, not the UK one.

The opening blurb suggests the product only requires the three core books to run but does not reprint orc statistics for play. So... that's not true at all.

True indeed, Volos for Orc Racial stats needed, and I could be mistaken, but I thought XGE or MtF came up about midway through... can’t seem to find it now... maybe it was for something optional

Hey guys, I know you used existing Dysons maps to make this adventure but the first half seems unfinished, there are a bunch of rooms which are unlabelled and a heap of paths that disappear into nothingness which aren't addressed in the text.
Also seconding the request to provide the unlabelled maps as separate downloads so they can be used online without hunting them down from the Dyson Logos site.

I assume the Ring of Animal Friendship is supposed to be a Ring of Animal Influence, since I cannot find the former in the DMG.

Also, are rotters plants or constructs, as their stat block says? I'd assume the stat block is correct, but it contains an error under the Tree Stride ability - it says Dirt-Under Nails, instead of rotter (and vice versa).

More questions:

Maps: what is the scale? 1 sq = 5ft? 1 sq = 10ft?
8: What spellcasting abilities does Audra have? Just non-descript divining magic?
19: There are 10 medium-sized creatures that sleep and eat in a 6 grid-squares room that also has crates, wardrobes, and barrels? Assuming a scale of 1 square=5 ft, that is one cramped space.
39: this round room is "very similar to area 36"? Is it supposed to be area 37, the other round room with stairs? Also, how high is the cage supposed to rise?
49: Does Dirt-Under-Nails have a goal or anything like that? There's great detail about some of the other NPCs (Great Claw, for example), but hardly anything about him.
49A: is there anything in the reliquary?

I agree!!! There was so much that was missing. I was glad that I was not running it Adventure League Legal as that allowed me to just put stuff into the other rooms. I mean honestly there is no way that there was enough bedrooms within these for the amount of Orcs that they implied lived here. Also, I know that bathrooms are not necessarily a thing within a dungeon crawl but a kitchen should be and there was not one on either level. Also.....what the heck kinda room was that final boss room anyway? Not to mention the instructions of "make this be whatever you want". Umm come on! There was so much potential to make this a super important spot for the big bad to have taken up residency in.

I ended up making my own versions of the maps as I could not find them online when I first started looking. It took me forever but they ended up looking great and my players appreciated it. I just finished the campaign yesterday with a total of 5 players and through parts of it it was very difficult for...See more

For maps scale, its 1sq=10ft. I determined this because I was confused with room 4. If it was 5ft, than the side halls would have to be squeezed though, and tight space for the monsters described. But if it is at 10ft, than the setup works fine.

8: Audra, shes merely a orc with plot armor. What spells she may have are determined by the DM, likewise the help she gives, and how she responds to the encounters. If she makes it to the end, it could be heart wrenching.

19: As I noted for area 4, when scaled at 1sq=10ft it seems reasonable. Room 16 is only slightly larger and has 14 cots for comparison.

39: Its accurate for being similar to 36...its like a combination of 36 and 37. Like 36 the "walls of this room are covered in tapestries that are interrupted by alcoves which hold cages." Instead of alcoves of birds, its a bolter and bear You can think of 37 as Performance of the Arts, and 39 as Performance of Battle. it is a strange setup and I believe it would...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
