Domain of the Nameless God is a horror-themed adventure campaign created for Dungeons and Dragons (5e). Can you rescue the missing children of Ilmater's Hope, or will you lose your sanity in the domain of the Nameless God?

This is an adventure designed to wear down heroes over time. Instead of the monsters getting more difficult, the heroes will get weaker as they succumb to exhaustion, insanity, and betrayal. They will need to conserve their resources if they are to survive the journey and keep an unspeakable eldritch evil at bay.

Features:

  • An Adventure of Terror for 3rd-4th level characters
  • Quality Artwork throughout the book
  • Over 70 Pages of Adventure
  • New rules for Sanity
  • New Magic Items and Hideous Monsters
  • A 10+ hour adventure that can fit into your campaign

This is also the story featured in our podcast Dark Dice.

Was playing this along with a friend of mine. She quit after the last session due to not having fun (We were both still alive after session 4). Playing this module feels very different from the usual DnD. First you‘ll have to enjoy roleplaying you character slowly dying over the course of 10 sessions. And you probably don‘t wanna die because that means you will not be participating anymore. So you‘ll try to play optimally instead of in an interesting way. Next, nothing is rewarded, including exploration. If your dm meticulously describes something and reserves huge parts of the battlemap for it, in other modules that usually means, there‘s something cool to find there and you‘ll go there just so your dm hasn‘t prepared all this for nothing. It’s a part of what people describe as „The social contract“. But here any additional content you acces means you‘re gonne roleplay more suffering or anxiety and there‘s nothing to find. Then the stress mechanic is just random. See someone mutate horribly?...See more

Hi, how difficult would it be to scale this adventure for level 5 characters?

Hey Anthony,
Not too difficult at all! If you focus on the effects of exhaustion over time, give the bandits in the opening fight an extra 10 HP each, and maybe add 2-3 zombies to the graveyard fight, you'll be right on par.

I have a question to the author, how well will this adventure run if I omit the sanity rules?

Will it be too easy for a party of 3 level 4 (fairly strong party) characters, if I omit the sanity rules?

Hey Travis! I know there was discussion below about the map addition. Should I wait to buy until that has been added? Or can I just buy it now and the maps will come separately? Thanks! I love the podcast and am on the edge of my seat for new episodes of S2! :) This is amazing!

The maps have been added! Once purchased, you'll see the .pdf download link, along with links to download the four .png maps. I think he's eventually going to append the maps into the .pdf file, but it hasn't been updated as far as I know.

Everyone gets an email every time I update the file in any significant way, along with a brief list of what's been updated. You can 100% buy it now and still get all of our updates. Generally my updates have been more art, less typos, better formatting.

I've listened through the podcast with this campaign and loved it, so I plan on running it for some friends in the next few months. Any suggestions where I can find character sheets with Sanity ability and/or damage counter? I've found some with the Sanity ability score slot, but not with anywhere to keep track of sanity/stress damage. I can modify my own if I have to, but if there are some already created out there, it would make it easier.

Kind of late to the bus here but this module is awesome! I picked it up after listening to most of the podcast (waiting to read the whole module till i finish the cast to not spoil anything). One question I had in episode 7 with a critical hit the players roll again i think on another chart but i don't see that in the module? I am looking to incorporate injuries and that sort of thing into my game so do you have any guidance on this?

Im hoping to slot this into a campaign Im going to start running soon, I know this starts with characters of 3rd-4th level but how far will it take them in level progression?

They should gain one level when they finish the adventure.

You can fit it into virtually any setting as it's just a human/dwarven village with a nearby forest.

Hey Marcus (sorry for the delay in response, we were moving when you posted this),
We're in the process of making maps for the book, which we'll provide to everyone who already has a copy. The update is probably about 90 days out.

Hi Travis, is there any update on the maps? I'm integrating this into a campaign and I really want to run it on roll20 soon as I'm holding the party back a little so I don't have to do a ton of work increasing the challenge level, but I also don't want to draw a bunch of maps if you are planning to release some soonish! Loving your work, bought the T-shirt (and the mug lol)

Hey Paul,
Still on course for July. We just wrapped up the first map, and have sketches for the other two as of Monday.
They're being inked over the next week or two. Thanks again!

Our cartographer said he would be sending us files on Thursday, and our PDFs will take about 2-3 days to update with the new formatting. Should be the 12th or 14th at the latest, and you should get an email when the file updates! Thanks for your patience!

Im going to be running this game for 2 of my best friends tomorrow, and i am wondering if i should give them some npcs to help out, or make them do it alone until i get more players? My fiancee cant make the first few sessions but will join eventually and im trying to make sure they can survive till she arrives cuz the story is so amazing to listen to.

Yes definitely provide npc’s. The adventure has designed npc’s that fit perfectly with the story and will help immensely. In the podcast four characters have major issues during the adventure, so a near full party is recommended.

Its been a little while since you posted but I hope this helps others.

I am working on putting together group to run this campaing, Ive loved the pod so far, its been amazing!!! But I noticed that Soren appears as an NPC and not a character. However, I was really looking forward to using him or an analagous character in my campaign. Any suggestions on how to run the character?

Hey Samuel, thanks for the kind words! (please be sure to write a 'review' after you've played one tab over!)
RE: Soren - Just have him be staying in Ilmater's Hope at the start of the adventure. He's a well known tracker who would be quite useful... Otherwise he can pop in pretty much at any moment in the Dead Pines and would happily assist in tracking down missing children. He's friendly like that!

Does anyone know how many players this module is optimised for? The introduction simply states 3rd-4th level players.
Are 5 players of 3rd level suitable to this? Or are 5 too many?
Thanks in advance

I ran it with 6 level 3 players and it ran smoothly. The key for me was making the characters distrust one another and incentivising roleplaying their flaws in a way that was fun for everyone around the table.

Will those 2 items ever be free to access, or available to people who have bought this book? I love the podcast and was more than happy to support it, but I had also partially bought the book to see the items and monsters and use them in my game, especially Ziggy (I love their creepiness and style).

Our book of cursed items is on hold, and for the upcoming re-release (need a few months to draw maps) we'll be including Siggy and the Lantern.

I've played the pre-release from the Patreon TWICE so far, and everyone loves this adventure. I'm a new DM myself and the adventure was detailed and easy to follow. In addition to the new sanity rules, the game touches upon a lot of elements you don't see in many adventures, like exhaustion, and even underwater combat. The game has enough horror to keep the players on high alert and paranoid throughout the whole adventure while still having fun while fighting horrors from our worst nightmares. This adventure is easily worth quadruple what is listed here, and I will personally keep running and playing this campaign for years.

This module literally changed my life. Travis (the maker of this module) is a close friend of mine and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the work he's put into this module. I hope to have a physical copy to put on my shelf one day, but until then, I'll have this pdf close.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
