The Thundering Lizard

The Thundering Lizard is an inn briefly described in Tomb of Annihilation. Other than its location in the Red Bazaar of Port Nyanzaru and its raucous nature, very little description of the establishment is provided.

This supplement is written for Dungeon Masters who want to know more about the Inn and whose players may appreciate an interesting backdrop and flavour (literal and metaphorical!) to their brief rest periods before launching a new foray into the jungle.

Included in the download is a high resolution PNG map of the inn (player and DM version) as well as a handout of the Thundering Lizard Menu. These can be used in a virtual tabletop.

Please consider leaving an honest review or comment. I would greatly appreciate it as this is my first Dm's Guild product and any feedback would help me create other titles in the future.

The text is now selectable and the protection removed. I didn't realise I had done that!

This document still has DRM on it. I bought it thinking this issue was solved and it's a bummer that we cannot simply copy the contents to add directly in the VTT I'm using.
Otherwise it's a good product, but if you want to quickly add it to your game beware of this issue.

This document has DRM on it. To me that's a huge negative as it disallows me to simply copy and paste the information to the application I use to run the game...

Hi Caspar. I am not sure how this happened and it was not intentional. Other people highlighted this issue also. At the time I made the document, I had the full version of Adobe Acrobat and have not had it since which prevented me from addressing the issue. You'll be pleased to know I recent started a new job and now have access to the software again and intend on resolving this. I will update the file before the end of the week.
Thanks for buying the supplement. I really appreciate it.

I am trying to prep Tomb of Annihilation in a VTT (Foundry) and would like to put notes about The Thundering Lizard directly in the tool so I don't have to have a bunch of PDFs and other files open while I'm running the game. This PDF appears to be an image without selectable text, which means that I can't do things like drop notes with the room descriptions on the map without hand typing them. This doesn't seem right. Can you please provide a version that will allow people to use the descriptive material in a modern way?

Hi Heidi,
Thanks for letting me know about the issues you're having. I cant say it's something I have noticed before and definitely not something that was intentional. The PDF was created the usual way, from a word document.
I will have a look at the document asap, probably tomorrow morning now, and get back to you.

Hi Heidi,
Not quite sure what the issue was but I managed to save the document again and fix the issue. You should be able to highlight and copy text now.
Thank you for bringing the issue to my attention.

Matt T,
I seem to be having the same issues that Heidi had. I'm trying to prep for Port Nyanzaru and your resource is exactly one of the things I have been looking for. Unfortunately, while I can select text from the PDF, when I try to paste it into a different document, it won't copy over, meaning I am also having to hand type all of the notes over (using roll20). I'll try downloading the file again, but it seems that the PDF has some sort of password setting that is preventing the copy. I can understand protecting your work, but wondering if there is a way that would still allow us DMs the functionality to include the information you have created within our other applications.

I'm having this problem as well. I can highlight text, but when I try to copy it, I get prompted for a password. Matt, can we have a version that allows us to copy the text, please? Retyping the entire document into VTT notes is super annoying.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
