Madness of the Misty Cove

The promise of treasure led you here...

MotMC_Banner.png

"You enter the cave, jagged walls slick with seawater and made slippery by moss and clinging seaweed. The smell brings to mind the pungent odor of fish and brine, but there is something else as well, something foul and stinking. You walk deeper, the darkness enveloping you as you explore this seaside cavern. That's when you feel it, like teeth in your mind. You are not alone here..."

Welcome to the Mist Crescent, a beautiful jewel of an island in the middle of the sea. It is not drawn on any map, nor will it be found in any ship's log. It seems to be a mirage, all covered in fog, and never seeming to be in the same place twice, but it is real, and you have been invited to salvage the abandoned treasure found in the undersea caves of this oasis in the middle of the sea.

Would that this was all you would find!

Madness of the Misty Cove is a full D&D 5e adventure written for characters of 5th level and bringing them all the way to 10th. This adventure contains high-seas danger and adventure - your players will set sail over the trecherous sea of swords in search of the mysterious Mist Crescent island. On the way they may encounter swashbuckling pirates, horrific fiends, disgusting undead monstrosities, vengeful white whales, mad wizards, mind-bending dungeons, and, at the end, a dragon's hoard to shame them all. All of these are yours for you and your players to discover - if you can survive!

Included within are:

  • A full-length, 123 page adventure from 5th to 10th level.
  • 10 fully-realized, pre-generated characters so you may begin play immediately.
  • 9 all new magic items found scattered throughout the Mist Crescent.
  • 21 unique creatures to be discovered exploring the Misty Cove.
  • 2 unique races, the Savanna Tabaxi, and Dragon Tortle, for your players to use in this game.
  • Gorgeous cover art by Zenartus, and other insert art and maps by David Hardie
  • A long voyage by sea, where anything at all could happen even before your players arrive.
  • 3 full-length dungeons for your players to crawl through, including a haunted shipwreck, the lair of an undersea cult, and a mind-bending labyrinth.
  • A far-away island, with its own intrigues and mysteries to discover.

"The sheer size and glint of that diamond led you to believe that this would be the job of a lifetime, and that old Tortle wasn't kidding. But no amount of warning could have prepared you for the dangers guarding that treasure!"

The player races in this product are compatible with the racial feats found in the following volumes of Candlekeep Geographic

The introduction to the adventure states that access only to the three core books is assumed. Is that true for purposes of using the new Tabaxi and Tortle subraces?

Yes. The optional Tabaxi and Tortle subraces included in Madness of the Misty Cove are customized reprints of subrace options from the Candlekeep Geographic books, and thus you do not need to buy the Candlekeep Geographic supplements for MotMC to function. You absolutely only need the core three 5e D&D rule books to play MotMC. The only exception is if you choose to rebuild one of the companion NPCs as fully statted PCs, the book lists suggested classes for them that are often from supplemental material, such as Xanathar's Guide to Everything, Unearthed Arcana (As of October 10th, 2020), or Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, in addition to options from the Player's Handbook if you do not own those other books. This is optional and should not impact the main game much unless one of your players wishes to play as one of the characters presented in this game instead of building their own character.

That said, if you or your players do wish to use races and subclasses not available in the core rulebooks,...See more

Well... I went ahead and bought the thing only to learn that access to Volo's Guide to Monsters is assumed for the new Tabaxi race. I tried to be very specific with my question, so I can't help being a little disappointed.

Oh shoot, I'm so sorry. I did misunderstand the question and misled you. Yes, I didn't include the base Tabaxi race. For what its worth, the new subrace is optional content that isn't strictly speaking necessary to enjoy the adventure. I will issue a correction in the adventure right away! Thank you for pointing out this oversight! It was a big help. I hope you enjoy the adventure!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
