Suggested Price $0.00

Queen Raedra Obarskyr of Cormyr summons a group of heroes from various realms to combat an evil Red Dragon. Among those who answer the call are two knights, a priest, and a wizard. However, not all of these so-called "heroes" have pure intentions.

"The Surrounded" is a captivating one-shot adventure that promises to immerse your players in intrigue and devious schemes, keeping them on edge throughout the session. With skillful execution, this memorable D&D experience has the potential to become a legendary tale shared for years to come.

Key features include:
- Full-color maps crafted using Inkarnate,
- Detailed monster tactics to aid the DM,
- Guidelines for using pre-made characters,
- A 16-page adventure presented in full color.

Special acknowledgment to Kerem Beyit for the stunning cover art!

After the Players have killed Baeloxxar and the Bridge appears, do you recommend to keep the Round or return out of Combat mode?
I'd always say keep Combat Mode, but wouldn't that indicate to Sir Gawain (or the Bard that I have to put in because we are 5 Players) that there will be fighting in between the Players and they should be very suspicious?
I am not that experienced, so I'd love some advice on this. Thanks.
PS: This Adventure looks awesome and I am really looking forward on running it this Weekend.

Hi Ben,

If there is even one player who does not expect the fight to go on, I would end the combat and go back to normal. Remember: If there will be a fight, the players will start it, not you. So lay back on your chair, run the game normally and enjoy watching your friends squirm with excitement :)

Best,
E.

Thanks for that reply. Good Idea.
I have one more Question.
I have the suspicion that Baeloxxar is quite to strong for the Party.
I mean, only the Breath Weapon can just instantly kill / or knock out Varius.
That would make for quite the boring story.

Actually Baeloxxar can be almost a weak enemy for the party, if they play well and co-operate. Varius is purposefully designed to be incredibly fragile as he can easily win the game by obtaining the egg. This duality created great tension and many laughs (after the game) in the test runs. But afterall, you are the DM and you know your players best. Please run your own amazing version of the adventure and share the story of how it went with us!

Hi, sorry, am I blind or is there really no indication on how wide the river or how big the rock island in the lair is?

Hi Sabine,

Yes you’re right, exact measurements are mostly left out. A simple guide deciding on the exacts sizes can be; 1- Making the river wide enough so they cannot jump. 2- Making the island large enough for the dragon to land.

Have fun,
E.

I've got a question about the PC stats.
In the Adventure there are ability stats provided - I'm guessing these are final stats for levels 10-14?
Should I disallow taking ASI / Feats that increase these ability scores so as not to mess the balance? Or should players only roll for HP and pick class abilities to complete character creation?

Dear Tomasz,

It is recommended not to add any feats or other abilities to the characters but here in the review and discussion section you will see that many seasoned DMs changed the characters, the size of the party, levels, etc.

In short; if you are not feeling very confident about making changes to the game, you can keep the stats as it is. If you feel comfortable about tailoring the adventure for your party, feel free to change whatever you like.

All the best,
E.

I ran this for a few friends who usually DM, they had an absolute ball and the reveals were fantastic. Weeks later I was still getting told they had a great time and couldn't stop thinking about it.

I think the most important thing is making sure you assign characters well!

Would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Is the wizard really supposed to have a CON of 7? By my count this means he is going to have 26 hit points ... feels really fragile.

Hi Matthew,
Yes the wizard is meant to be very fragile, he can be killed even by natural causes (falling, etc). If he can fool the party he becomes almost invincible, this is balanced with his current state of health.<br />

Hi Albert,

Intended party size is 4, some people have played with groups of 5 players as well. You can download it for free and come back after the game to pay whatever you want in case you like it.

Hello, I'd really like to play this oneshot with my players as it sounds awesome! But I seem to be missing some information as I can't find the HP for the characters (and building the characters the usual way seems like at least one of them could get killed in one shot, so not sure how to balance that.), is there some way to get the HP for each one?

Hi Bettina,

Belonging to an older generation of D&D players, I haven't created complete character sheets, so there are no HP for characters in the PDF right now. Just hit dice (levels) and stats needed for rolling HP are present.

But I received so many comments on this so this week I will update the file with compete character sheets which will include HPs as well. I will leave a note to the description.

Thank you for the comment,
Cheers,
E.

Hello Tijn,

I had some reviews about the lack of detail in character sheets, so I will prepare full character sheets in a few weeks and add them to the product.

As for experience, it might a good idea to run a few other games before running this adventure since it need is the DM to observe and balance the stuff happening between the characters.

I hope you'll enjoy it!

Hi Tijn, honestly I am new to this as well, so I'm not sure you will receive a notification when I update the adventure (I guess not). So I will leave a visible remark on the product description page & cover stating that the character sheets are added. Not sure when though :)

I didn't even run it yet but I'm really eager to do it. We will be playing this weekend (I should post all the messages I'm getting from my players that are making theories about the betrayals without knowing that they are not the only ones doing that hahahaha.... Umm I mean: MUAHAHAHHAHAHA)
I'll come back to post a review about it

Dear Mitchell,

Dear Mitchell,

It depends on your players and pace but usually between 6-10 hours. If you leave out the all the optional parts, it is possible to shorten the run time. If other purchasers can share their experiences that would be great. I am curious how this module turned out for people.

Best,
E.

I'm getting ready to run this myself soon, but looking through the pregenerated characters, it appears that Father Tristram is missing a weapon?

Or is that intended?

This is very interesting. Can't wait to try this. Is there any good way to add a 5th PC without breaking the balance of the game? Maybe the bard is convinced to come along with the party? Or maybe the knight has a retainer or close friend join them? A 5th PC will likely have to be of lower level than the others I assume. Any thoughts?

Dear Neal,
If you want to add a 5th NPC I agree that the bard is your best bet. But like you said it should be a much weaker character not to disrupt the balance in the game so make sure the player isn't bothered by that.

Thinking about it, that'a great idea, especially roleplay wise :) Thank you!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
