Explore the versitile applications of magic in the Forgotten Realms with two of the greatest wizards on Toril as your guides!

Blackstaff’s Tome of Wizardry presents 31 new archetypes for the wizard class, each with tailored spells to add depth and flavor to you game experience - for a total of 139 new spells. Included are 10 new creatures to create or summon. This exploration of magic is annotated by Vajra Safahr and Khelben Arunsun, the current and former holders of the office, and artifact, of the Blackstaff.

In the pages of this tome you will discover the secrets of the various school and associations of a number or new or rediscovered practitioners of the Art;

Alchemical Artillerists specialise in large scale battlefield magic.

The Arcane Experimenter, who twists aspects of spells for greater effect.

Astromancers are masters of gravity and radiance.

Battlemagi specialize in close combat magic and techniques.

Binders are summoners who conjure extraplanar entities directly onto their bodies.

Dimensionalists focus on creating and manipulating pocket dimensions

The Elementalists – Aeromancy, Floramancy, Geomancy, Hydromancy and Pyromancy – each master one element of the physical and natural world.

Emomancers share their emotions magically, amplified for potent effect.

Ferromancers are the masters of metal and magnetism.

Fleuremancers manipulate light and energy.

Golemancers strive to create the perfect construct servant.

Green Star Adepts absorb the essence of a meteorite to become living foci for magic.

Guild Wizards are peerless duellists that draw upon their communal resources.

Hedge magi perfect their craft and synergy by the ‘practical application’ of adventure.

Incanters manipulate the magic of others for increased or decreased effect.

Jaunters bend time, space and causality.

Kineticists enhance and manipulate motion and movement.

Lunar Magi are tied to the phases of Toril’s moon Selune, their power waxing and waning with its cycles.

Mentalists straddle the very thin line between magic and psionics.

Nethermancers manipulate the Shadow Weave, a dark mirror of Faerun’s primary source of magic.

Puppeteers craft and enchant magical marionettes, channelling their magic though the tiny constructs.

Reanimators use their abilities to ‘reinvigorate’ creatures with the energies of life and death.

Runecrafters apply their Art through inscribing enchanted runes on themselves and other surfaces.

Scrymancers excel in information gathering and spy craft through magic.

Soulbinders invest a portion of their essence into a focus object.

Simbarchs, practitioners of the Symbarch Teachings, preserve and practice the magic of the Simbul of Aglarond – perhaps the greatest wizard in the history of the Realms.

Voidmancers reach into the dark places of the multiverse for power and knowledge, trusting their mental discipline to protect them from the horrors within.

Testimonials for Blackstaff’s Tome of Wizardry

“Wow! Just. Wow! This is one heck of an absolutely gorgeous grimoire of wondrous wizards and whizz-bangs. I feel like I need to have Exemplar of Self cast on me to truly comprehend the awesomeness contained within! Over 30 phenomenal schools covering practically every conceivable use of the arcane arts of Wizardry with countless new spells of all levels, wonderful lore and a menagerie of guardinals, ancient virtuous planar pals that guard and guide those who have the power to call upon them.

Want access to pocket dimensions you can tear open and fling at your enemies? How about the power to literally blow people’s minds with a Mind Bomb? Are you more in tune with the moon, wanting to unlock its Celestial healing and unleash Lunar Retribution? Perhaps you’re a Jaunter, wishing to wield control over time and space? All these and so very many more lay waiting to be discovered in these enchanted pages.

Also, I’ve decided Emomancy is a new form of magical screamo music and my band of Nethermancers are called Conjured Gloom. We perform surrounded by dancing shadow beasts. Look out for our new album Inevitable Winter. It’s too cool to handle!”

 Curse of Sebs

“This is the best supplement ever! So much awesome! Because there’s so much to choose from it brings character to the class as a whole. I feel I’m set for D&D for life. This is a blessing for me and a curse for everyone else, as I will Never. Play. Anything. Else. Ever. Again.”

@JurassicPossum, Forever Wizard finally tempted to leave Abjurations warm embrace.

Hi, i was wondering if the spells listed after a class are specific to just that class or to all wizards? are they also available to any other classes?

Hi Michael. The spells were developed specifically for use with their subclasses, but as they are Wizard spells they can be learned by any Wizard who can get a hold of a spellbook containing one.
They weren't tested or balanced for use by other classes, but I encourage you to use them as you see fit. Whatever makes more fun at your table is the "right way" to use our products. :)

First off, I love the book. It has given me and my players a lot of fun.
But, I have been wondering for a bit where can the artwork in the background of page 54 be found.
I apricate any feedback.

Thank you.

Hi Brandon. Thanks for the praise. I hope you continue to get value out of the book. The Art on page 54 is Dean Spencer. Its stock art you can find on Drivethrurpg along with many, many other quality artworks of his.

Hi Alex. Unfortunately DMsGuild’s current policy on PoD is very limited. At this time it’s not an option available to us. If this changes we would happily produce a print book.

With POD not available through DMsGuild, if I bought a copy could I print it for personal use? I prefer having an actual book to reference.

I can't help but laugh at the irony; I've been contemplating adapting some of the more obscure AD&D specialist wizards like the Dimensionalist and the Incantatar for ages, and yet here's this product that actually did it! Heck, I'm quite impressed with the Dimensionalist based on the preview; I could never really decide on an interesting set of subclass abilities given the limited capabilities of the two AD&D versions, but this version feels both faithful to the originals and pretty good.

I think you should still create a version of the archetypes you like - even if they appear somewhere else. I hope people like the archetypes we've created and revamped from older editions, but I'm a firm believer that everyone has something to offer TTRPGs. Your version might be better than ours.

Really liking the book, but ther is a mistake in the School of Battlemagi. The Battlemage Features says that you get Kinetic Shield at 6th level, but the feature itself says that you get it at 2nd level.

Which of the two is correct?

Hi Stijn. Good pickup. The text is a typo - this is a 6th level ability. We'll add it to the list and correct it in the next update.

FYI the little tag thing that says PDF or MULTIPLE FORMATS or VTT says PDF for the FantasyGrounds version. It says FANTASY GROUNDS in big red letters right next to it, but it still threw me for a second.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
