The Case of Whitebriar Manor

Lester Loom is dead. Murdered in his own home.

Before he passed, he scrawled a single word on the floor in blood.

Whitebriar.

The Case of Whitebriar Manor is a noir-inspired mystery campaign for Dungeon & Dragons 5th Edition. The party must unravel the sinister plots of man and monster alike if they hope to dole out justice to whoever murdered Lester Loom. To do so, the investigators will confront ruthless gangsters, corrupt aristocrats, and immortal beings in an otherwise quiet lumber city in Cormyr.

Everyone works for someone in Everitt Grove, and the pursuit of power is all consuming.

Hi there and thanks for the kind words! While we did not have plans for a printer friendly version, we are looking into it now. As soon as we have more information, this will be the first place to find it.

For the potion trap, are the “treasure” potions a part of the swarms and therefore get destroyed? That seems like a lot of treasure at level 3 or 4

While the potions are not destroyed and therefore technically loot, Ser Samwell Slade and the guards outside the shop likely won't take kindly to a group of investigators pilfering the crime scene. I hope this is helpful. If you have any other questions, please feel free to send us a message on Reddit at u/MagicMissileGames.

Unfortunately, at this time, we are not able to make the conversion for Fantasy Grounds. That being said, all of the map images included with this product should be compatible with Fantasy Grounds. Thanks a ton for your interest, and if this changes in the future, you'll be the first to know!

Hi! This looks fantastic! I’m about to run a one-on-one campaign and this adventure looks like a perfect fit. I assume it’s set in the 5e default setting of Faerun? If so, how much work will it take to convert it to Eberron?

Hello! This adventure is a great fit for Eberron! It plays well with the holmsian-noir vibe of the adventure. With just a few tweaks, this adventure will work just fine.

The Case of Whitebriar Manor is written to take place in Cormyr, which is a kingdom in Faerun, but the city, Everitt Grove, is an original city location we have added to Cormyr. So, by swapping the country names most things will fall into place.

Otherwise, you'll just need to change out a few dieties, and pick a lawful institution to replace the Purple Dragon Knights of Cormyr.

Happy to answer any other questions you may have!

Awesome, and thanks for the quick answer! I’ll probably pick this up in the next couple of days. I’ll let you know if I have any specific questions after giving it a read through. Any tips for running it one-on-one? We’ll be using a sidekick, and I imagine I’ll need to nerf the encounters some?

We hope you enjoy the adventure! You can direct your specific questions to us on Reddit at u/MagicMissileGames or by email at magicmissilegames@outlook.com.

This adventure will do well as a solo one-on-one adventure. There are lots of potential allies that could accompany your PC into dungeons. So, you could either lower the difficulty of encounters or bolster the role of certain NPCs. Chances are, you'll do a mixture of both depending on the area.

The other consideration is that there are several crime scenes to investigate throughout the adventure. There's lots of evidence to find, but you need a wide range of skills to find it all. Typically, that would come from a balanced party of four PCs. With just one PC, you may need to combine some skill checks or highlight certain evidence as you go along, but the adventure is flexible enough that you don't need to find every bit of evidence to progress. Even if the PC misses a few leads, they can still catch the perp.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
