The Cube of Vanya

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Inspired by the "Happy Fun Ball" from the web series Critical Role, The Cube of Vanya is a magical adventure through demi-planes created by an ancient wizard, now destabilized by a malevolent dragon. The adventurers find themselves trapped within a series of themed planes with no idea how they got there. Navigating these planes to find a means of escape, they uncover the secrets of the cube while piecing back together their own memory.

During the campaign the adventurers may fight shadow demons in an inn which is really a prison, flee a tornado while perched perilously in the sky, forge a weapon within a volcano, and much more.

The module is structured in a non linear manner allowing the adventurers to choose their own way, or for the DM to pick and choose their favourite bits to highlight. The adventure was written with four level 5 players in mind but it would be easy to tweak for different sized groups around that level.

Hello! Is there a log somewhere about the changes from 1.0 to 1.04? I don't see any info in the PDF regarding it.

Thanks!

There isn't I'm afraid, I'll make sure to record that in future!

The changes were all fairly minor, but numerous. The biggest changes were:

* General: Re-balanced the magic items found through the adventure, particularly the amount of items which provide poison resistance
* Sealed Inn: Reduced the number of shadows in the combat encounter
* The Infinite Darkness: Changed the combat encounter to a fight against phase spiders
* The Infinite Darkness: There is now a saving throw against the damage from the tunnel collapse
* The Endless Sea: Changed one of the reef sharks to a hunter shark in the first combat encounter
* Crystal Farm: Gave the players longer to complete the encounter
* Inferno Forge: Reworked the weapon forging encounter so that it is easier for the players to achieve something but still difficult to create the dragon slayer sword
* The Crystal Engine: Increased the HP of the crystal in the combat encounter
* Forest Valley:...See more

I'm about to DM this for two level 8 players tomorrow night, knowing they're critters. I've been familiarising myself with it and am very excited to see how it goes! It's well written, intriguing and I love the idea of the cube being expandable in the future. A PC they met previously will be gifting them the cube, so I won't be using The Lazy Traveller Inn (I'm using this to stall so I can figure out what happens next in my campaign!) but I did want to say that I loved the comedy of the barkeep being surprised that a whole bunch of creatures appeared in his bar!! I shall reply with further comments after DMing! Thanks so much for sharing this adventure!

It's was written with four level 5 players in mind, but it would be pretty easy to tweak the encounters for between level 4-7 by removing or adding enemies. I've updated the description to include that info, thank you :)

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
