Wait, wait, so does *this* count as one of the failed adventures in Doomed Forgotten Realms, because Volo is dead in that? LMAO

Hi, is it possible to get player version of the map without the room identifiers and hide the secret doors? I would like to use the map in a VTT. Thanks!

Yes! I forgot I had a version available and I've now included it within the files.

Enjoy having Volo murdered!

I love this adventure and I'm going to be running it this week! One note, though -- there were actually 2 different split "cells" of the Zhentarim at play in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist: the Manshoon-following Zhentarim, and the Doom Raider Zhentarim who were looking to clean up the Zhents' reputation somewhat so they could get some good Waterdavian business. These two groups were actually opposed (Manshoon kept using this to redirect attention, the Doom Raiders kept getting blamed for things they weren't actually doing, this was a lot of ch 1's like BLOODBATH IN THE STREETS weird increased Zhent activity thing). Davil and the doom raiders weren't the group that kidnapped Renaer/Floon -- the purpose was to try to get the Stone of Golorr, which Manshoon was directly after but Davil wasn't involved with. (This part is super confusing in the WD:DH book itself and needed multiple reads for me to sort out, but basically Manshoon coming to town and bringing his own branch of the Zhentarim was causing additional...See more

Ah yes, you're 100% right on this one! Thank you so much for taking the time to write some solid advice. I must admit, during my read/playthrough of WD:DH because the kidnapping of wasn't explicitly stated as being Manshoon's doing I felt it gave enough leeway to attribute it to the Doom Raiders.

Speaking from experience, it is super easy for just about anyone to justify wanting Volo dead. I thought of at least eight as I write this.

Do let me know how running the adventure goes! I'd be delighted to hear about it.

Thanks for your response! It's definitely nothing wrong with the module itself, just wanted to offer up some alternates to people who played it the other way.

Ran it yesterday and it went fantastically, everyone had a lot of fun. I really appreciate your including the docx version -- it made it easy to rearrange the sections into the chain I chose while working in in red herrings from the other possible villains and making a tight timeline around it. The party figured out the villain via the clues, but the presence of the others there and having their own annoyances with Volo kept things from being too obvious right up until the final confrontation. A++ work on this one, it was a blast and felt right in the spirit of WD:DH.

Love the premise and structure and how detailed this is. I'm looking forward to running this. Is there any way to provide a version without the colored background? Just a clean print version so it doesn't eat up so much ink? There are pages I want to print out but not with the background.

Hey! Thank you for the support. I've just added a Print Friendly word document version to the download.

Hopefully that should make everything easier for you!

Sorry for the delayed response. Thanks so much for the more print friendly version. I ran it with modifications to fit the story line unfolding for my players and they loved it. And are still dealing with some of the ramifications. LOL.

Looks great but the map in the preview states “1 square equals 5 feet”; there are no squares but in the pic above there are squares. I assume the preview predates the released copy?

There are grid lines, but I must admit they're a little faint with the background!
So what I've done is included a separate png file of the map, that can be used for your convenience!

How well does it work stand-alone, without being tied to Dragon Heist?

Works just as well as a stand-alone as it does a tie-in!
The plot hooks given at the start of the document give a bunch of options!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
