EB-EP-01 The Iron Titan

ADD TO WISHLIST >

In this Epic event for D&D Adventurers League play, Cultists of the Emerald Claw reanimate a warforged colossus from the battlefields outside Salvation and turn it against the outpost. The scavengers in town must work together to disable the titan limb-by-limb and save the outpost from annihilation. They are aided throughout by the Oracle of War, which provides vital tactical advice alongside cryptic verses from the Draconic Prophecy. This Three-Hour Multitable Adventure is for Tier 1 characters and optimized for APL 4. Notes in the adventure allow for it to be used as a single-table event as well.

Welcome to the Oracle of War campaign, a new 20-part standalone story for the D&D Adventurers League! You can play this adventure as part of your own Eberron: Rising from the Last War campaign, or as part of the Oracle of War organized play campaign. While this campaign runs under the umbrella of the Adventurers League, it utilizes different rules. You can familiarize yourself with these unique campaign rules by checking out the Oracle of War Player's Guide and Oracle of War DM's Guide, found in the D&D Adventurers League Players Pack.

We are thinking of doing a big D&D event at my university for new players and experienced alike. Do you think this would work well or are there too many special mechanics?

I'm new to DMG stuff and AL stuff as well. Really interested in getting this Oracle of War story stuff going. Can someone just explain to me if I should run it in order EB-01 -> EB-05 and then with the same party go EB-EP-01? Or is there a different order to things?

Also how often do these come out?

Finally, how much of the content is suggestions to the DM? Like is the BBEG set in stone or are we to determine motivations etc? What about suggestions of a group patron etc?

To whomever responds to my questions, thank you for your time in advance, I asked a lot.

Ideally, run the Epic after EB04, but warn players they should withhold from leveling before playing. It's designed to be played at tier 1 (i.e. level 1-4).

Each core adventure in the series comes out on the first Tuesday of each month.

Group patron is up to you - the guide includes suggestions, but they are only suggestions. If you're playing using Adventurers League rules, you should refrain from changing story elements like who the BBEG actually is, but you can roleplay those characters however you like.

Have fun!

So we don't have to be running an event to run this epic-lite adventure? A solo DM can run it for their own table?

Jason, I ran it with just me as DM and 4 players with no problems apart from the players discovering the Level 5 fireball trick I mentioned below.

Since Gamehole, the module has been rebalanced for APL4.

Just purchased this to possibly use with my group running the campaign (non-AL). Appears to be confusion in the comments on where to place it and rightly so. As stated, it's balanced for level 4 play and would be too easy with 5th level adventurers. But the way EB-03 ends (with the Oracle of War shutting down in Third Protocol mode) and EB-04 begins, it makes zero narrative sense for this event to happen before EB-04 at 4th level. If I use it, I may delay 5th level (since I'm not running AL) and make this event trigger the milestone. Could lead well into EB-05, which I just purchased. But again, as written, the narrative of this event is klunky.

The module states that it's best placed after playing EB4 - you'd need to delay advancement for that module, if using Eberron AL rules.

Just for info I ran this virtually over the weekend with 4 players who had completed the Oracle Of War series and so were Level 5. Despite ramping up the threat somewhat a few fireballs in the confined spaces of this scenario settled matters rather quickly so lesson learnt for me there. Max Level 4 really does mean that. Despite all that, Will, James & Shawn many thanks for putting this together, fun was definitely had.

"The commander can’t pick actions from locations that have been destroyed by quest victories."

What about quests - can teams still do the quests in areas that have been destroyed, or do those quests disappear?

Yes, groups can still continue playing their quests. It's a bit of an abstraction in that regard.

Is this something I can just pick up and play? Or is it meant to play in a certain sequence, and me and my group will be lost if we haven't played the other modules packaged with this?

I've been converting all the OoW adventures into Fantasy Grounds modules. How would I go about finding who to contact to get them all official and put up for sale?

Hey Maite, you cannot sell FG mods for these AL mods, nor can you share your mods. If you create a FG conversion, it must be for your own use.

Possible mistake in the Siege Damage Table on page 5: two identical instances of SEVERELY IMPALED: 60-64 and 65-69. Is this intentional to give it a 9% chance?

Thanks, we will amend this in the next update. The second instance should be "Severely Slashed: Shrapnel tears into you, dealing 11 (2d10) slashing damage."

Hey getting ready to run this later this week and we noticed that the battle updates have a timing discrepancy. In the admin section on page 36, it says every 30 minutes but in the event rules on page 4, it says battle updates and siege damage occur every 20 minutes. It also says every 45 minutes instead of every 20 minutes on page 5 under battle updates in single-group play. So is it supposed to be 20 or 30 for a multi-table run?

Good catch. We will amend this shortly - it should be every 30 minutes for a multitable run, I believe.

Thanks also had a question on a different section we noticed. For the legacy Event Fallen Titan is the gold spent per player or a group total divided up among the contributing players ? (200/7 or 200 each?) Also is it an all or nothing where everyone has to commit to the research or can individual players decide?

So to clarify - Siege Damage will only happen during Battle Updates; specifically either: when a party is in an area where a weapon is destroyed, AND/OR if the Colossus Action is "Flamethrowers (Left Arm)". Have I got that correct?

According the Eberron ALPG, "Characters may not divide the cost of any legacy event related
costs unless the legacy event specifically allows it. The player
gaining the benefit of the legacy event must pay its cost alone."

We are in a similar situation as Ian G: we have just finished EB-03 Where the Dead Wait and leveled up to 4 (5 players).
This is a home game and we want to play the campaign strait, but include stuff like the Iron Titan! Any advice on inserting EB-EP-01 TIT after EB-03 WtDW and lvl 4?

If I remember correctly from info previously posted on AL site, it was originally meant to be played after EB-03, actually. And storywise it does make even more sense - after EB-04 you don't have much reason to stay in Salvation, really. So I'd say go ahead, it's even a better fit; just scale it down to Weak as per guidelines (or halfway there, in my personal opinion).

Oh, in the preview of this one it says:

"CONTINUIG THE STORY
This adventure can take place at any time during the Spoils of War storyline but, for continuity, it’s best enjoyed after all four adventures in the series have been played."

Hey David, we modified this one after the preview events to balance it for APL 4. That's a legacy error in the description above - will fix it now.

However, after EB-03, the Oracle of War is broken--it only says "Third Protocol Activated" on repeat. The end of EB-04 resolves this and the Oracle is once again useable. Since EP-01 says the players can use the Oracle for tactical advice, it only makes sense that this adventure would need to be run after EB-04, rather than EB-03.

Having recently finished EB-04 The Third Protocol, do you have a date for the release of EB-05 please? I wouldn't want to get player levels too out of sync with the main campaign.

Many thanks for keeping morale up in the D&D community in times like this, by the way.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
