The Blackstaff’s Warlock Codex is the ultimate collection of 5E warlock subclasses, options, and spells, from the creators of such titles as The Blackstaff’s Book of 1,000 Spells, Elminster's Guide to Magic, the Player's Companion, Faiths of the Forgotten Realms (I and II), and the Ravenloft Archetypes series (which Critical Role creator Matt Mercer praised as "Really grand content! Well thought out, well presented, and a fantastic supplement to any campaign... Highly recommended!").

The legendary Blackstaff, a scholar of all spellcasting traditions, compiled the many secrets of warlocks-- those bearers of esoteric lore and dangerous magic who commune with infernal intelligences and fey spirits, scour enemies with potent blasts of eldritch power, and bedevil foes with hexing curses. Now the arcane might they channel from otherworldly entities can finally be yours with The Blackstaff’s Warlock Codex.

This sequel to the Platinum-bestselling Blackstaff's Book of 1,000 Spells adds spells from that tome and more to new warlock subclasses, patrons, pacts, variant features, and magic items, alongside roleplaying advice and secrets of pact magic to enrich your experience of playing D&D's most scandalous character class. Examples and lore from Eberron, the Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and other settings deepen your warlock's ties to the worlds of the D&D multiverse and illustrate how to connect these rules to your own campaign.

With more than 40 new eldritch invocations, 8 new otherworldly patrons, 5 new pact boon options, over 40 new magic items (including sentient items and artifacts), more than 60 spells for all spellcasting classes (including both brand new spells and a curated collection of spells from the Blackstaff's Book of 1000 Spells), variant warlock class features, and all the information you need to roleplay these new options to the hilt, The Blackstaff’s Warlock Codex will forever change the way you see one of D&D's most popular classes!

CHANGE LOG: Version 2.0 features a new cover, new spells (unspeakable bond, vile resonance, and spells of the lich Larloch), updated text for some spells (such as prime shot and staggering note) and items (rod of flaying), and many minor corrections.

Quick question, the Pact of the Gloom states that when you use your reaction to cast a spell it allows you to take the Disengage or Hide action as part of the same reaction. For the Hide action I do understand, but being given a "free" Disengage which states: "Your movement doesn't provoke opportunity attacks for the rest of the turn" seems a bit useless. Did I read this correctly or am I missing something?

Admittedly, you are not going to use the disengage option nearly as often as you hide, but there are times you cast reaction spells during your own turn (such as when responding to a creature's opportunity attack against you) which make the quick disengage useful. But also, if you take a look at the new spells included in this product, many have a casting time of 1 reaction, and some of them (especially Gift to Avernus and Prime Shot) are intended as to be used during own's own turn. Using the book's various options together makes them all more useful. Hope that helps!

Hate to be a bother, but the "eyes of the vestige" spell isn't described within despite being listed on the warlock spell list.

Not a bother at all-- we appreciate you pointing out the error. Weird that the spell was somehow left out, we had it written up. Here is the text of the spell:

Eyes of the Vestige
Necromancy cantrip
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous
Your enemy’s eyes glow with an eldritch light as a vestige of lost power from a past era takes hold, scouring that foe’s mind while you curse a second foe nearby. Choose a creature within range, which must roll a Charisma saving throw. On a failure, the target takes 1d6 psychic damage, and your magic curses a different creature of your choice that you can see within 15 feet of it. The second creature takes necrotic damage equal to your spellcasting ability modifier. If the second creature is already the target of a spell you cast that curses (such as hex) or of a warlock feature of yours that curses (such as Sign of Ill Omen), it has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
