Oracle of War: Salvage Bases and Missions contains new Dungeons & Dragons rules you can use to build a base in the Mournland, a terrifying, magically warped landscape in the Eberron campaign setting. Your base originates near Salvation, a frontier town on the border of the Mournland’s mists. If you upgrade your base to its fullest potential, your home base can travel the world of Eberron with you.

In addition to the rules for building a base, this supplement contains ready-to-play adventures Dungeon Masters can run, allowing characters to earn a new resource called salvage. Salvage is an abstract currency used to purchase upgrades for your base. The supplement also includes rules, guidelines, and random tables to help DMs design their own Mournland adventures called salvage missions.

This supplement, created by the Guild Adepts, is legal for D&D Adventurers League play when used as part of the Oracle of War campaign. Your group can use the Oracle of War: Salvage Bases and Missions as written to create and upgrade a base. The adventures provided here can be integrated into the Oracle of War campaign, as can any base created by the characters. Adventures you create using the rules in this supplement are also legal for Adventurers League play as part of the Oracle of War campaign.

Put this question in the AL forums, but didn't get an answer..

I'm starting some players through the Oracles of War campaign, as well as supplementing with Salvage Bases and Missions.

When it comes to Salvage, is there a gold to Salvage ratio? I'm anticipating players wanting to sell salvage for gold, or buy salvage to enhance their base. I -thought- I saw something about it, but now I can't find anything.

Anyone have some guidelines?

Hey I really love this WotC and I am in the middle of doing a some fun Salvage Missions for my AL group but I have a request. Can you guys make an Artificer stat block? I don't mind having to pay for it or anything and it doesn't need to be anything extensive, like getting into subclass, just like a CR of 5-7 so that it is a viable option through most of the tiers of play? It is kind of hard to believably have a campaign that goes from levels 1-20 in the Eberron campaign setting and not once have an Artificer as an enemy. I want to be able to make my adventures legal according to your guidelines so I cannot just make my own stat block for them. I am using the Skeleton Alchemist (Ghosts of Saltmarsh) and the Duergar Alchemist (Out of the Abyss) and flavoring them as needed but those are only 1/2 and 1 CR respectfully. After level 5 I will need a horde of them just to put up a decent fight against players.

on page 24 the players encounter everbright lanterns is there any reason they cannot keep them?

Many of the bases have ruined or destroyed sections of walls....what does it cost the players in salvage to fix a missing 10 foot section of a wall?

On page 16 under Repairing the Base, it says 50 salvage to replace a missing 5' cubic section (or 25 salvage to repair a damaged section).
So 100 salvage.

If you're looking for more salvage missions, check out Gulgo-13 (!

Fair warning to creators: Although salvage missions are AL legal, they are not considered AL adventures by the DMsGuild and will not appear in the AL ribbon (at the time of writing). In other words, visibility for these products is severely hampered. I would therefore encourage the creators to link to salvage missions in the product description or to create a bundle including this supplement (need not be marked down) where creators can add their missions. The base maps at the end are nice, but some are difficult to use.
Will there be versions that remove the room details/rubble and all include grids?
Very important for upgrades that specify certain sizes of space required.

Hey, just got this and here are a few questions:

- In the subsection Rewards in the introduction it says "Again, characters playing salvage missions as part of the Oracle of War campaign cannot gain any rewards other than salvage from salvage missions". I interpret this as follows: The characters can find magic items in the locations and can use the magic items in these locations. However, once the characters return to Salvation Outpost, they lose these items as they are turned into salvage. If this is the case, that would be extremely good since it's an elegant solution.

- It says in chapter 7 in the section Publishing Adventures: "Monsters can be re-flavored to suit story needs, but cannot deviate from the published stat blocks." I interpret this as follows: I'm not allowed to change stat blocks (other than suggested in the “Villains” section) but I can outfit NPCs with items that give them special abilities.

I don't play in AL and I don't know if they've been reprinted elsewhere, but a search on D&D Beyond indicates that the skeletal swarm statblock is published in Ghosts of Saltmarsh, and the Undead Bulette statblock appears in Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

For creating Salvage Missions for use in Oracle of War, it says:
"Your adventure can only use monsters from official D&D products. Monsters can be re-flavored to suit story needs, but cannot deviate from the published stat blocks..."

What does "official D&D products" mean? The Eberron and Faerun stuff? Ravnica? Acq Inc? The Fiendish Folio?

Hi Jose. We will clarify some of the edge cases soon (e.g. Ravnica). For now, you're certainly safe to use monsters from MM, Volo, MToF, Eberron: RLW, or any of the hardcover adventures.

Big Eberron fan and I have been eagerly anticipating this for awhile now. Thanks for all the work and attention to detail here. Are there any thoughts as far as allowing AL characters to use their acquired Salvage from Salvage Missions at Salvation Outpost to buy mundane gear from the PHB? I understand wanting to regulate magic items to only the AL approved modules, but standard gear is also a form of progression and it might be both thematically cool and feel like the characters have a bit more options for advancement beyond just their bases to do so. After all, it's nice to have a nifty base all built up but if your gear is still baseline you're going to find it harder and harder to survive the missions to begin with.

Hey David! You can't spend salvage outside your base, but you can use the base to manufacture quite a lot of gear - e.g. weapons and armor if you build the Forge upgrade, outfits of clothing using the Atelier, common magic items in the Arcane Manufactory, etc.

You can, but I think the hour limitation makes upgrades prohibitive. A Breastplate being 400gp requires base 200 hours and 200salvage to craft. Even if you have someone proficient in the given tools to halve that value again, 100 hours and 100 salvage. The Oracle of War AL campaign doesn't use hour accrual at the end of the adventure for downtime so you can't accrue hours there, leading me to believe that if that was kept in mind you're looking at playtime hours? So 100 playtime hours, if all sessions are 4 hours long would mean 25 sessions to complete a Breastplate. 50 sessions if you didn't make a character that had those skills. I'd love be shown where I'm wrong here so feel free to correct my misunderstanding, but I don't feel like that works. However, Salvage accrual in these works similarly to gold accrual in standard AL, and could be used either just at the Forge without the hour requirement or treated as equal value to gold at Salvation Outpost which is already available to buy base gear at.

The duration in hours is expressed in game time i.e. how long it takes your character to complete the construction process, NOT real-time. In AL play, between adventures you can typically spend as long as you like, as there are no downtime rules for Oracle of War. Really, the time limitations are there to stop players cranking loads of them out *during* an adventure. For homebrew campaign play, it's obviously up to the DM how long they allow between adventures.

I'm relatively new to AL, I started back in September, so I will absolutely defer to more experienced understandings of that. My understanding was that hours were accrued downtime hours earned at the end of each adventure because they were specifically quantified as earned hours as seen in standard AL play, and since the Eberron/Oracle of War play forgoes that it then means if we are doing it on gameplay hours that makes sense but AL tends to spell those things out. By not doing that it allows characters to sit down at a table and say at the beginning or end of the game. Will D, thank you very much for helping me work through these ideas. I appreciate the discussion.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
