Prism: Trio of Light

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Three New Subclasses for the best selling Prism class!

The Prism bring a unique gameplay experience to the table. A prism has a pool of influence that restores at the start of each turn in combat, and increases in size steadily as they level. This influence is the fuel for their basic actions - called Projections - each turn and can be spent while using a projection to alter the emotional state of a target. This is done to both punish enemies and to bolster allies.

New Facets of Light

The three new subclasses offered here; the Ally, Flame, and Fractured facets unlock never before seen ways of manipulating the Magic of Light and interacting with the world as a Prism. Pull from within a manifestation of your true self, and function as a dyad on the battlefield; look past the flickering flames and see the light within, and wrest control of that elemental power; and become so powerful that your own inner light begins to sunder your form, trying to break free - learn this power, and become light itself.

BUNDLES!

Get the Prism class together with the Trio of Light at a Discount, or bundled all together with Prisms of Eberron for an event greater discount! That's 11 subclasses!

Prism Class Testimonials

[...] I've seen the prism. I hate the idea of adding more and more classes to the game when the archetype system exists. But if a player asked me to use the prism, I'd say yes. I see no reason it should be a single archetype so it works as a full class. It is (to my eye) balanced as heck, it's thematic (which is important in D&D, if your supplement can't add to the narrative then it falls flat to me), and it's well composed. Nothing about it feels rushed. It shows that it's a labor of love, time, and effort. It's good content. - DMsGuild Author Bryan Holmes

Mechanically? It's pretty [bleep] awesome. Thematically? It's flavorful as hell, and what it does is very clear. - ACOG_Muffin @ Discord of Many Things

A unique concept executed well. Prism introduces a new light-weight magic system with a lot of potential for expressive characters and new stories. - Izzy @ Discord of Many Things

It feels good, it reads well, I was jazzed about the influence progression and and core mechanics for projections and barriers. - twitter user @itsjoshnow

With the Fractured Facet subclass, the level 15th Unbound Form has no limit to how many uses you get. Plus, with the wording of "Body crumbled like dust" are you permenantly in this form or does your body return after the hour?

Hi Ben,

The intent of the feature is that it's always usable, but I admit you've pointed out a big of weirdness.

So I can go either of two routes with reworking it:

1. Your body crumbles away and you're *always* under those effects, maybe add a bullet that lets you become more corporeal temporarily.

2. Rewrite the splat that your body only crumbles away for the duration and it reforms after.

As a reader, which do you think is a better approach?

It depends on whether you intend for there to be a downside to the transformation. No matter what the world this is used in, a being made of pure light is definitely going to attract some attention.

If you make it so you are always "on" and temporarily become normal, then there is a restriction on how much time you can spend around normal people. The character can no longer wander the streets, because they might run out of time and ascend into a creature of pure light, which might understandably freak people out.

The second option works a bit better, but has a similar problem with the 1 hour duration. You might end up with the party having to stand outside of the palace for 20 minutes while the Prism "calms down".

If you want the feature to be always usable, then in my opinion an Action to turn on/off, with the body reforming like shell, would work the best for a player. Gives them the freedom to walk around without attracting attention, and still gives...See more

Also, roleplay aside, if you can't turn it off than stealth is a bust. You are constantly shedding bright light, you are basically a light house

Also, are you sure you want to make it always usable? I'm comparing it to the Paladin level 20 features, and while it may not be as strong as they are, adding no limits to it puts it well over the Devotion Paladin, and on tier with the other Oaths, except theirs are Capstones

So I think the second option is probably better, with the caveat you can end the effect early if you choose.

I'm not sure that comparing it to the Paladin 20s is quite right. The budget and kit of a Paladin is completely different to that of a Prism, despite both being Charisma half-casting classes. The Prism simply doesn't have the punch that a Paladin does, nor the auras.

That being said, being 1hr / LR vs. toggle on/off won't be a huge difference in terms of game-feel, so I might make that change anyways - Just going to confer with Israel Moreira who assisted in the playtest and tuning/balancing of this during development.

I would say, as a temporary errata if you are currently using this in a game, run it with the additional bullet/text "You can dismiss this form as a bonus action." for now.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
