Far down in the twisting caverns of Khyber, monsters beyond imagination roam and hunt, untouched for centuries by the light of Eberron’s sky: mind flayers, beholders, dolgrims, dolgaunts, and a league of other creatures just as sinister and foul. These aberrations are the children of experimentation, the projects of ancient invaders from the realm of Xoriat: the daelkyr, lords of madness and corruptors of the natural order. The ultimate agenda of these depraved beings is unknown: the optimistic believe they seek world domination, and the pessimistic can only guess at fates far worse.

"Madness of Xoriat" is a collection of maddening daelkyr content for your Eberron campaigns! This fully illustrated 23-page guide includes:

  • 1 new player race: the Daelkyr Creation, victim to the terrible experiments of an aberration and made to take on its traits
  • 1 new subclass: the Symbiont warlock patron, a source of eldritch power that burrows deep into the wielder and alters their mind
  • 8 new daelkyr lords: 4 mentioned in Eberron: Rising from the Last War, and four entirely new creatures exclusive to this book, each complete with lore, statistics, lair actions, regional effects, and a table of madness effects
  • A full page of discussion about using madness effects respectfully in your games
  • An alternative printer-friendly white layout!

Reviews:

"If you like to get weird and want new and bizarre options to challenge your players, [look] no further! [...] Each of these warped wonders come with their a delightfully bleak and effective description of their background, machinations, madness and lair, as well as their own mighty statblock, lair actions and inspired regional effects. More than enough to inspire high level adventures or plant the warped seed for strange campaigns." --CurseOfSebs

UPDATE HISTORY:
Version 1.1 (5/18/2020): This update brings a number of mechanical changes, many of which were pointed out by William B.'s brilliant review.
  • Daelkyr Creation. The Illithid-Type's "Alien Mind" trait was renamed to "Alien Resilience" to avoid confusion with the daelkyr trait of the same name. The Beholder-Type's "Eye Ray" trait has been tweaked to gain power at the same rate as a cantrip (at 5th, 11th, and 17th levels instead of 6th, 11th and 16th levels).
  • The Symbiont. The "Seed of Symbiosis" feature has become a Constitution saving throw, and progresses at subclass levels instead of other levels. "Psychic Connection" range has been specified. The effects of "Shared System" have been clarified.
  • Avassh. Numerical corrections, and the Madness Table has been clarified to hate animal life, not all living things.
  • Fyrlock & Kyrzin. The DC of "Alien Mind" has been corrected.
  • Orlassk. Fixed editing errors that referred to Orlassk by the names of other daelkyrs. Reduced Orlassk's "Warlord's Shout" legendary action from costing 2 actions to costing a single action, and affecting up to three creatures.
  • Thassalyr. Changed the context of Thassalyr's history: it is no longer an aberration born in Xoriat, but a mortal from Eberron elevated to the status of daelkyr by Dyrrn.
  • Valaara. Valaara's "Incubate" action can now be cured as if it were a disease.

MADNESS OF XORIAT: REVIEW An interesting book with lots of neat ideas and unique mechanics. In many places, it doesn’t fit into the world of Eberron as much as I hoped. I like the “Madness is not Mental Illness” disclaimer and its d [...]

Madness of Xoriat by E. R. F. Jordan (@erfjordan) Chilling introduction and overview of the daelkyr from Kalen Sybil Aberrologist, Underdark Explorer, who I desperately want Jordan to write a book about! Thorough and thoughtful primer a [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
