This is a module and extension for the Fantasy Grounds VTT.

Adding sounds to your Fantasy Grounds game just got easier.

This Fantasy Grounds module contains working sound links for every sound set published in the amazing Syrinscape app AND Syrinscape ONLINE player.

You choose which way you want to use this for your game sounds!
It contains over 22,000 sound links organized by sound set and ready to trigger with just a click.
Only the sounds YOU OWN on Syrinscape will work, and if you have the SuperSyrin Subscription you will then be able to trigger all sounds. Otherwise, only the sounds you own will work.

This one-time purchase will include all future updates for free.

Updates are planned at least quarterly to add all-new sounds.

UPDATE!

CSV Import functionality added!

None of the chat triggers produce a sound and the default sounds only play thru the web and not discord like the DOE sounds, is there a way to make the sounds go thru discord?

Hello,

Should the chat trigger produce sounds or not?

I am looking at introducing sounds to my FG games. I registered for the free on-line syrinscape (and downloaded fantasy player program), with this product, will I be able to play the free soundsets provided with my group? Also with the "New CSV importer" will that allow me to add my own sounds to my games? I am referring to sound effects, ambient music, etc that are not from syrinscape.

This product will allow you to play the free soundsets, but there will also be many sound links that will not work. The extension and Fantasy Grounds do not send the audio to your players. Those with a SyperSyrin subscription can use Syrinscapes Online player to automatically send sounds to players. Without the subscription, you can still trigger sounds on the DM's PC, but you will need additional software and setup to send it to your players. the CSV importer is only for importing sounds created within the Syrinscape Soundset creator. It does not handle sounds outside of syrinscape.

So if I don't have SyperSyrin subscription I can't get my group to hear sound on their end? What if they others have the free syrinscape or the on-line syrinscape, will that allow it ot work?

The SuperSyrin subscription is required to use the Syrinscape Online method to easily share the audio with your players. However, there are other free methods available and documented on the Syrinscape forums. They require you to install and configure various free software such as VoiceMeeter, discord, and cleanfeed. The Syrinscape Online method is just the easiest one I have found to set up and use.

After lots of messing around on the Mac, it seems that the only way to get this to work on the Mac is using the "OS Browser" option. That's fine, but every time, it opens it into a new tab on the browser I have open for SS Online. Anyway to have the extension send the URL so that it opens in the same tab/window each time?

Oh yeah, and by the way, this is FRIGGIN' AMAZING!

Unfortunately there is no way to control the launching behavior when a link is triggered. Fantasy Grounds hands it off to the Operating System to handle, so there is no way to control any behavior. I have a thread for this extension over on the Fantasy Grounds forums and several users have been able to get it working on Macs. You may find a solution on the thread there. https://fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?53459-MK-Syrinscape-Sound-Links-module

If you’re using the Unity version then use this bridge app and the SS Online setting. It will pass the sound to the player and there be no need to have tabs open.

For All Unity users. I have just added a condensed version of the sound module to this. This sound module contains all of the Moods and One-shots, but excludes the music and sfx elements. This had a dramatic impact on loading time for me in Unity, dropping from over 9 minutes to under 30 seconds.

Some more info on the condensed version and why I excluded the music/sfx elements can be found in my FG forum post. https://fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?53459-MK-Syrinscape-Sound-Links-module&p=473259&viewfull=1#post473259

Do I have to have the Syrinscape subscription as well?
Customer avatar
John W April 20, 2020 5:06 pm UTC

A subscription is not technically required, but you do have to "own" or have access to some of the sounds through your syrinscape account. The sound links to entries that you own will work fine, even without an active subscription. That said, a subscription is a great way to get access to a huge library of sounds, and the supersyrin subscription is required to allow players to connect and receive sounds that you push using the syrinscape online player.

Ok great, I can use it if I own the files from syrinscape. But even though I own them I would still have to have a subscription to allow other players to hear the sounds. I just wanted to make sure I understood how everything is working together.

The SuperSyrin subscription is required to use their Syrinscape Online player to send sounds to your players. There are other, more complicated methods available to get the sound to your players without it though. Typically they involve using applications like VoiceMeeter, cleanfeed, discord, etc to try to direct the audio through to your players. The SO player just makes it much easier.

It sounds like you have the module loaded, but not the extension. On the launcher screen, make sure you select the extension before you open your campaign. When you open it, you should see a message in the chat window saying that the syrinscape extension was loaded.

Im going to need to remember to launch FGU WAY before the game starts, as it takes a long LONG time to load the sounds! Once loaded... works pretty darn good. I like it :) I will say that the on-line player version actually sounds better than doing it using Discord PTB as I did with DOE. and I like the way your program works.... good job!

If you are using the Fantasy or Sci-Fi player apps, make sure you change the setting in FG to the Genre player, otherwise it should be set to the Syrinscape Online. The popup means that your operating system does not know which app to send the triggered sound to. So if you have the online player launched, and its trying to trigger a link for the Fantasy player, it wont work.

Change over to the Genre player, make sure you have the Fantasy player open and have downloaded all of the relevant soundsets. There are some existing bugs with the fantasy/sci-fi players where not all links will work, regardless. Where possible, I generally recommend the online player.

This is so awesome. But... I was wondering:
I love that this works in Unity (though Unity is not quite playable yet, I am trying to get ready)... but in the classic, I use the old sound program in conjunction with yours. The reason why I use the old one is because about 30% of my sounds are local.
Could you make an addon for purchase that pulls sounds off the pc - or does it have to stay with Syrinscape only? (and then I can link it to the chat sounds mod you guys have)

This extension is designed specifically for syrinscape and it would be very difficult to allow local files. However, if you have a Supersyrin subscription, you can use their online soundset creator to create your own soundsets and upload your files for use. Thats what I do to use my custom sounds and it works great.

Yes, Unity is still beta software and has not had the performance tuning that FG Classic has had over the years. I will re-evaluate the performance after Unity is released to see if there are changes to the UI I can make to improve performance. Chat triggers and triggering sounds still works fine, the main performance hit comes from trying to open the main sounds window.

This extension doesnt handle sending audio to your players. That is done outside of Fantasy Grounds. If you are using the Syrinscape Online player (recommended), then each of your players needs to download the syrinscape client and have a free account. As a DM, you go to the syrinscape control panel and there is a link you send to your players that joins them to your game. then when you trigger a sound, it will play on their devices as well.

Thank you for asking that. Took me finding this specific question in the comments to figure out why it wouldn't play. Should be made really clear when you are buying it that it doesn't play sounds for your players if you buy this.

You need to spend even more on the SuperSyrin subscription, or find another more convoluted workaround.

Hey Rob GREAT WORK! Question: is there any way to get your mods/ext to work in FGUnity? It works perfect in Classic but it hangs in FGU after I click on the Syrinscape icon(and I let it hang for 10 minutes before I force stopped FGU). I installed everything in the right places. It just hangs. Any workaround? I really want to use FGU with your mods/ext.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks. At this time FGUnity is still in beta and has not been through any performance tuning. I expect the situation to improve as it gets nearer to release. The extension actually does work, but as you indicated, there is a very long wait time when you open the sounds window. Chat triggers will work without the delay. My suggestion is to prepare any chat triggers and story entries with sound links in FGClassic first, export them to a module, and load that module in Unity. After Unity has been released and had some performance tuning, I am hoping it will improve the load times to something similar to FGClassic. If it does not, I will need to revisit its design.

Robert R March 18, 2020 10:14 pm UTC

John W March 18, 2020 10:18 pm UTC

Yes, it took over 10 minutes on my machine. I timed it. The reason for the long load times seems to be because of the number of soundlinks present. Currently there are nearly 24,000 sounds and when you open the window, FGUnity is trying to make a list of all of them, organize and sort them for display. If their optimizations dont fix it, then I will have to figure out a new way to work with them.

Sorry for the dense post, but I have a couple of questions before I purchase.

1) I noticed after looking for an update that the "rob2e_5E_Sounds.mod" is no longer available on this site, though I can still download the last update from my library.
1a) What's the difference between that product and this one?
1b) That product did auto triggering of sounds based on chat window text, but this doesn't appear to do so and a different product is required for that. This feels a lot like paying multiple times for the same thing. Please help me understand if this is or is not the case and the justification for the decision.
1c) is there any discount to be had if I DO have to purchase this and accept that the older product is no longer available/being updated?

2) Does this require any extensions to integrate with syrinscape, or is the mod sufficient on it's own? I have a super syrin sub and the latest fantasy player (not online, desktop) installed. I was previously...See more

1) Robs sound module was removed due to the DOE sound extension that it was based on being removed. No use in selling a product that depends on something no longer available.
1a) That product was based on the DOE sound extension and contained various triggered sounds. This product is an extension and module that makes it possible to play sounds from within FG. The ability to trigger sounds via chat messages is built into the extension, but this product does not contain prebuilt ones. There is another optional product here on DMG that contains prebuilt triggers.
1b) answered in 1a
1c) No. This product was built entirely from scratch and does not reuse anything from the DOE sounds extension or modules. It represents a significant development effort, and is a wholly different product.

2) This product includes both the required extension and sound links module. Both are required to make sounds work. As a benefit, this product allows you to use syrinscape online which the DOE...See more

This product enables you to trigger sounds in syrinscape from within the Fantasy Grounds VTT. It does not have anything to do with how you get the sound from syrinscape to your players such as through discord.

There are generally 2 options for getting sound to your players. The one I recommend is to use the syrisncape online player. your players will also need a free syrinscape account and download the online player. then when you trigger a sound on the DM side, it will automatically play for you and the players.

The other option is to use software such as Voicemeeter and virtual cables to route the syrinscape output to applications such as discord or cleanfeed which is sent to your players.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
