Explore Calimshan in this campaign sourcebook for the world's greatest roleplaying game

Calimshan! Land of intrigue, empire of the sands, and home to a million marvels and mysteries. It is a place where greatness and glory can be achieved by merchant, adventurer, and scholar alike. Before the first stone was laid in Waterdeep, Calimshan was already ancient. A land of genies, primordial forests, sunken cities, and a magical desert, it is unlike any other place in Faerûn.

The Calimshan Adventurer's Guide provides everything you need to create exciting adventures in this setting. Inside, you will find:

  • A guide to character creation, including new subclass options
  • An introduction to the history, geography, and culture of the land
  • An overview of the major cities and towns including Calimport, City of Glory
  • A collection of adventure seeds which can be sewn together into a level 1-20 campaign called "The Tale of the Twisted Rune"
  • New magic items, monsters, and NPCs
  • And much, much, more!

Calimshan! Are you ready for your next adventure?

I am new to this type of guide. How much of the politics, history, and interworkings of Calimport are canon / borrowed from official sources, and how much is straight from your own creativity?

I have researched pretty deeply into the available books on Calimshan. History I have tried to remain true to where I've engaged with it, while having to straighten out some inconsistencies and stuff that's unpalatable. The politics of the nation have changed dramatically over the years. The most recent "canon" in SCAG says there was a kind of revolution with the genasi warlords and genies overthrown by humans. There is no "canon" on the political situation in 1495. I have extrapolated a likely political status quo from that with the election of a Syl-Pasha, but one who is struggling to hold on to power in the somewhat chaotic post-revolutionary period.

Nearly half the book is available for preview, so have a read and you will get a good idea of how I have tackled these issues.

Hey MT, another quality product. I am not a Realms person, but I always mine settings for ideas. This was a god purchase I would say.
Just wondering why the druid circle is called Circle of Stone (which I would link more to dwarves, caves, etc) than Circle of Sand, which is the feel I get from this? Well, actually, it seems to straddle both. Maybe a need for both, then could really follow the concept through with features and spells.
(Just for eg. I would not think 'dust devil' would be a spell I associate with all Druids of Stone. Suitable here, but as a Circle?)

Thank you for your kind comments!

In terms of "Circle of Stone" I was thinking of the standing stones that are dotted throughout Calimshan, and are one of the few solid "druid hooks" in that land. A "Circle of Sand" would work too, though - I may create a derivative circle if/when I do Anauroch [spoilers].

Why is this in the Eberron Setting Section?

I can't see it in the Eberron section. It's marked as "Forgotten Realms" and that's where it comes up when I click the Forgotten Realms link.

If this wir print, i would definitely buy it, but i find ebooks annoying and rarely purchase them. I'd be willing to pay 20 bucks for hardback.

That is good to know. I would have to do a lot of work to prepare this for print, but it is feasible if folk are willing to pay a reasonably high price point

This is really good! Would you consider fleshing out an Adventure Path to go with it? Another vote for POD also. 20 bucks is fine.

One thought I had was to take the adventure seeds and turn them into full adventures. It would be a big undertaking, but if the book sells really well, I will look at it.

Don't know if you were told, the main header for Monk is messed up in the class descriptions. Overall enjoying the book so far. Hope you do more within Calimshan area. Really miss it, does not get enough love.

argh, how did I miss that? Thanks - I've got a couple of other minor errata and will release an update in a week or two.

I'm glad you are enjoying the book, and I'm pleased to be bringing Calimshan back to 5e. It's a fun place :-)

I know it’s been asked already, but wow would I pick this up in a second if it were in print. It also deserves to be “canonized.”

I don’t know if I’m qualified to determine what additional cost (I don’t know for one, what the service would cost you), but I would suggest looking at similar products within the POD portion of DMsGuild to find comparable pricing.

Depending on how big the volume is i would say 10 to 20. Btw im a fan of M.T. Black AND Calimshan, that makes 2 of my favorites together

Hi Lucas, I'm not sure what you mean by official. The player options are not AL-legal, if that is what you are asking. cheers, MTB

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
