-Critical Acclaim-

"This incredible collaboration of some of DMs Guild's finest is far more than a brilliant collection of cursed classes and backgrounds; a wonderfully compelling discourse of the science, philosophy and morality of the curses and what they truly mean for the afflicted. The writing throughout is riveting and almost insidiously compelling to the point I believe this Cursed supplement has Charmed me!" - CurseOfSebs

Cursed Classes does a fantastic job of turning classic and original monsters into playable characters! I'm already using the wereboar and wererat archetypes in my Dragon Of Icespire Peak campaign, and I'm excited to incorporate the multiclassing options in future games!" - Bob World Builder

Hi, I really loved this book; just a quick clarification regarding the vampire's XXX and claw attacks: there is no mention of what stat it uses for its modifier. Is it to assume strength is the stat to be used? Also, for Daywalker, one of their abilities is to store BPs per their wisdom modifier, which makes the vampire very MAD as other skills use charisma. I assume this is intentional? Just overall, the Daywalker seems a little bit weaker of a path compared to otehrs as it doesn't ever get true removal of sunlight sensitivity, while Strigoi technically gets that at level 3 with nightmare composure.
Otherwise, it's a great book.

Unless otherwise stated, all melee attacks use Strength, so in this case, yes, both the XXX and claw use strength for their modifier. The vampire has a number of lacking abilities due to the power of their regeneration that they get as early as 2nd level. The Daywalker is very similar to something like the College of Whispers bard, in that it's a roleplay heavy option which isn't great for games which have plenty of combat. Also, the Daywalker ability to store additional blood points was intentionally balanced on a different statistic to make certain it wasn't too powerful. Strigoi is balanced on the fact that it's harder to regain their blood points for healing, but it's still meant to be a much more combat heavy subclass.

I'm glad to see that you're enjoying the book!

Hi, I really love this supplement and can't wait to use it but I do have a couple of questions:

Question 1: for the Vegepeople's russet weapon ability it states that you use temporary hit points equal to 5 times your level but the Floraspawn only have 4 times their level in temporary hit points so does being a Vegeperson increase your pool or am I miss understanding?

Question 2: For the wereraven's nevermore ability there saving throw DC uses their constitution while everything else given to them, their Ac bonus and extra saving throw, uses intelligence. Could you explain why this uses charisma instead because it seems to make the wereraven a bit MAD?

You're spending hit points equal to 5x your level to empower the weapon. The amount of temp HP you get doesn't increase, this was done for balance reasons! Basically, this is a high risk, high reward ability where you use the pool to do more damage, but end up being a bit weaker afterwards.

There are multiple ways to build a wereraven, much like the barbarian feature which uses Charisma to frighten, this ability has more potential for a character who wants to focus on features like Quoth the Raven and Nevermore (Which are both Charisma based). The wereraven is a little strange to build, meant to be Dex/Int/Cha. The wereraven is also slightly weaker due to the flight options.

Thank you for your questions!

I love both Cursed Classes and CC: Even Cursier! They are great additions to any game but particularly the Domains of Dread. I do have a question though.

If a vampire misses a feeding, which seems to be daily, what penalties do they earn for starvation and at what intervals?

CREATOR
Hey there! Glad you've been enjoying our books! A vampire follows normal starvation rules if they don't eat.

Taken from the basic rules: A character can go without food for a number of days equal to 3 + their Constitution modifier (minimum 1) after which they fall prey to a level of exhaustion for each day they don't feed

Having said that, not drinking blood will keep your blood points from going up. (Also, take note that in order to gain a blood point the creature needs to be dead no longer than one minute ago or still alive and to be considered 'food' a creature needs to be dead no longer than 10 days. So 'eating' isn't as big a concern as 'eating well'.

Hope this answers your question!

Hello there. My DM has cursed me but I've been running in the constant problem, with Stone Golem, that I travel significantly slower than most of my party because no mount can carry me, even some ships and carts struggle with my weight (logically speaking; or not so, the DM decided I weight 1 ton). Of course this may solve itself with the wings at 14th level but I'm a far shot from that. Any suggestion? This would apply for Iron Golem too, I think, because if the density of organic beings is 1mg/cc, marble or stone are around 2.5mg/cc, but iron it close to 8mg/cc which means an Iron Golem of similar dimensions to an human would easily weight above 1 ton.
Fall damage (and speed) is also problematic.
The other recurrent issue is healing, as I don't eat and can't benefit from many spells, so we've theorized that maybe Mend can help, but standardizing the amount this heals feels awkward. Have you run into this problem before? Did you decide to officialize some way to heal?
I know it's a lot of questions...See more

Alright, I think the issue here is that there are a number of house rules being used? First of all, the body you have could slowly become more and more like a golem as you level, meaning that you might be part flesh, or maybe made of a less dense stone at first. There's no reason to use a weight limit. Also, I believe there are no healing issues with bound spirits, again, this is a house rule that's being used. As it stands warforged are very similar to bound spirits and are fully capable of being healed. My solution to this problem would be to talk to your dungeon master about these strange imposed rules that have been placed on the class.

If they're unwilling to budge on these rules, I would suggest a much larger mount for you, such as an elephant or if they allow them, perhaps a type of domesticated giant lizard or dinosaur. There are great rules for the mending spell under the revised battle smith artificer for healing its pet.

You don't HAVE to eat, you can eat. You also don't have...See more

A bit pricey at 16 cents a page.. on sale..

Still it looks intriguing. These SEEM like they should lay right on top of CoS, as they're touching all of the bases. It also seems like some of these might make the players OP for part of the game. Has anybody tested these as alternatives to death in the CoS campaign? I mean.. thoroughly? I'd be interesting in anyone's feedback on characters running through the campaign from being turned to the finish. (Although it occurs to me, that a vampiric hero could easily end up being an anti-hero.. and not finishing the campaign at all. ..not as intended, anyway. ;) )

Hey I am making this comment to say sorry for asking the previous question as I see It has already been addressed, a friend got this for me a while ago so I guess maybe I am using a old version as I don't see Potions of healing In the equipment or anything helping them for level 1. Sorry for the unnecessary question that was already answered. On a further note If they don't In the new version (Asking my friend to grab It for me now to see the changes) I believe It would be a good Idea to give Vampires Proficiency In all armors personally as In most fiction vampires can be seen wearing even heavy forms of armor, and the same being with simple and martial weapons.

If you believe your version of the Vampire Is best left without those that's reasonable, just wanted to give my two cents. Anyways fantastic book and I might just buy It for myself at this point to support you even further!, looking forward to seeing any potential future content you and your crew have planned.

Make sure to download the newest version of the book from the site, it should automatically update! Next, armor is a really neat idea and if you start as a paladin or fighter, you can get yourself armor proficiency to make your favorite version of the vampire! Vampires are living weapons, they have no need of armor, or weapons as they can XXX and have naturally hard to pierce skin with a base armor class of 16 (without neeing any Dexterity!).

If you haven't seen it, we have cursed classes even cursier! ( https://www.dmsguild.com/product/318257/Cursed-Classes-Even-Cursier )

Vampires don't need healing as they heal naturally from their blood pool, healing for you number of blood points every 6 seconds means that even with one point in your pool you're healing 10 hit points in a minute and 600 hit points in just one hour! The golden rule is that you don't spend all your blood points unless you have a source of food waiting for you. Also, vampiric regeneration doesn't stop when you're unconscious,...See more

Hey I have a question about the Vampire for level 1, For "Restless Undeath. You cannot spend hit dice to heal during a short rest, and you do not regain hit dice or hit points after finishing a long rest." I feel that Is significant downside since although they can also rest easier then others It also means they can never heal from any source since Healing spells also can not heal them and DM's aren't likely to give healing Items at level 1.
I feel this makes playing a Vampire for level 1 very unappealing and even at level 2 because the Regeneration does not have a (Minimum of 1) It means If you use too much blood points you are completely unable to restore hit points unless you killed creatures that had blood or you have allies that are willing to take the 2d6 or find a commoner you don't mind missing.

I am curious on your thoughts on this.

Edit: Also I forgot to mention, because the Vampire would be unable to heal due to the resting and Undead creature type that would...See more

Hello!

I hope y'all are doing good. I have a question about the Spread Roots ability of the Woad Warrior (Floraspawn class, p.21), has it does not have a duration. Is this intended? Ex: Someone living in a Forest could add to the root system everyday until it encompasses the forest and a bit of the surrounding area as a way to know when someone steps near their forest, to then using the Root Strider ability to meet them. Would this me accurate?

Thank you!

This is acting as setting up some kind of defensive area, like a home base or the like. You're limited by your pool for how large you can make the root system grow so there's no real reason to limit you based on time. You could just return to the same spot, or a different spot each day and yes, totally convert a forest to your home turf. If you feel like it needs a time limit, I would suggest 1 minute, however, mechanically it's only giving you immunity to prone and push conditions and allowing you to pop up in peoples faces in areas you've been converting. With 18 Con, you can use the ability 4 times without expending your pool giving you 80 feet of coverage per day!

Hi! Not sure if any of the team still check these comments out, but our DM has given us the option to take levels in the classes here; I really like the look of the Alp vampire path, but reading through it seems to be...missing some info? Or at least, it's hard to understand how most of its mechanics work based on what's written in the pdf we have. Hopefully the rest of my comment makes clearer what I mean (and sorry in advance for the length!):
So starting out the Spiritual Vampire feature changes the way your character gains blood points -and blood as relevant to the "Blood Drinker" part of the curse (maybe?):
- "Every 8 hour period you possess a body you gain 1 blood point and lose one level of exhaustion. This is the only way you can gain blood points. Possessing the corpse does not stop it from decaying."
But it doesn't say how many blood points a corpse contains, or whether corpse decay is tied mechanically to anything like how many blood points (and/or how much blood)...See more

Hey there! Team lead here and I always check out comments, sorry its taken some time to get back to you!

- The idea is that you're constantly looking for fresh corpses, spells like gentle repose will work on your form so you can keep the body indefinitely. Generally a body will decompose to an unusable state in around 7 days.

- This was a miss and we'll push along a revision at some point! We should have just said 'humanoid' for the creature type

- This IS a powerful ability, meant to combat the limitations in gaining blood points that an Alp faces. The ability lasts until the start of your next turn and you should only be able to use it a limited number of times. Here's the revision

As part of the same action, choose a creature within 30 feet. Your energy entangles the target causing them to have disadvantage on all attacks, all saving throws except Constitution and all ability checks. Their AC lowers by 2. You return to your body at the start of your next...See more

Hey there! Thank you for pointing this out, there was originally a 14th level feature but it got integrated into the 3rd level text for Darklight Photosynthesis.

'Starting at 14th level, your photosynthesis activates at any light level.'

Was integrated into the text for Darklight Photosynthesis and now says 'At 14th level, this ability works in both dim light and complete darkness.'

The 14th level enhancement of Darklight is VERY strong, as it gives you one of the synthesis requirements at all times.

I hope this clears up any confusion!

Okay, so I should start off by saying that I really love this PDF so far! Everything seems really interesting, I like that there's lots of playstyles and creativity that can help make your "Curse" your own, too.
This part I dunno how to word so well, and it might not even be useful to you in the first place since I don't have a suggestion or basis for it, since it's more a personal opinion than anything, but I thought I'd try my best to get my thoughts out in an intelligible manner and see what you think! I hope it makes sense and doesn't come out in an overly negative way!

So going in, the race I was most interested in was the Revenant, and I admit going in biased with the idea of it being like... I dunno - essentially a martial class with damage output, not necessarily tanky at all but more emphasis on using your undead nature and the fact that death doesn't hold you permanently to fight through blows that would put others down and keep pressing the attack - like how Samurai Fighters...See more

One thing to remember is that at 7th level, you can use your prey ability as a bonus action and fixated tracker can be used (using a skill usually takes an action) right afterwards. That takes one round of setup on a roll you can't get less than a 10 on. I know it seems strange to track a creature you can see, but it's entirely possible and prepares you if they run away.

I know this suggestion may not have crossed your mind, but you seem to have a good understanding of the class and the design process involved in making one. Why don't you try your hand at making your own revenant subclass to fill in those gaps you feel are there? We'll hopefully be releasing more Cursed Classes material in the future, however anything on DMsGuild is considered property of Wizards of the Coast and therefor, you can use it to build your own ideas! Make sure you read the faq if you want to release anything, but even without that I'd love to see what you come up with!

Huh, I actually didn't know that! It does seem a bit odd, but I suppose I do see a kind of sense in keeping an eye out for any signs they may try and escape from the fight.
Fair enough!

And I suppose the thought did kind of cross my mind, but I hadn't really decided to act on it - I think I might! I've made
a few Homebrew things, mostly races and feats, though I suppose now's a better time than any to try something new, eh?
Currently swimming around my head is maybe looking at Hexblade Warlocks, with their Hex ability, and also (surprisingly) the Ranger's Hunter subclass and some of the abilities it gets - Maybe even the UA Fighter Subclass Brute? As I said before, nothing terribly concrete and they definitely need some ironing out, but ideas all the same!

I don't know if I'd have the confidence to release it, or anything else I've homebrewed for that matter, on DMsGuild like you though! But I'll use that as a segue to once again thank you and your team for making these...See more

Hi! I've been playing the Suit of Armor Bound Spirit and it's amazing! I'm having a lot of fun with it. I just have a comment and two questions:
Comment - I took the 'Reinforcement' Body Augmentation and it's great but having a 21 AC feels REALLY strong at 3rd level. I understand that this balances out later by the fact that you're capped at 21 as well as the fact that you can't get benefits from magical armor but it still feels kind of overpowered at 3rd level. One way to fix it might be adding a level prerequisite to it (9 and 15 are obvious options since that's when you get the Body Augmentations). It's definitely not a deal breaker though and the double prerequisite is pretty inelegant so I completely understand just leaving it as it is.
Question 1 - Do you add you proficiency and STR to the Slam attack from the Constructed Nature feature?
Question 2 - Does the Slam attack count as an Unarmed Strike for the purposes of the Magical Fists feature?

Hey there! Thank you so much for your support, first off let me say that the AC is quite good for a level 3 character. It's also attainable by a character with a few character builds, tortles with shields and defensive combat styles and forge clerics can hit some really high AC numbers. It starts strong but it will dwindle as time goes on. If you feel those changes are needed for your game, please go ahead and make them. We want you to enjoy this supplement however you can.

Question 1 - Yes, you do!
Question 2 - Your slam attack is a melee weapon attack so no, it doesn't gain the bonus from magical fists. Magical fists is more of a technique for the flesh golem to use and a few other niche cases. Again, if you want to add a little extra power to the slam, feel free to consider it an unarmed attack. The reason it isn't is due to the nature of the other golems so you can't stack too many unarmed bonuses!

I spoke to the Lycanthrope creator the other day and yes, it has a flight speed of 50 feet! As well, we're working on a few rules changes for the wereraven. We're changing the size of the raven form to just be a normal raven. However, they'll have a dexterity based beak attack now which means they can still hunt and kill. These changes will be in a revision, but feel free to use them for now.

for hunting:
* Your character must hunt and kill a living creature of your size or smaller.

for natural attacks:
* These attacks can use either your dexterity or strength score to determine your attack bonus and damage.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
