The final volume in the bestselling, critically acclaimed series

Uncaged Anthology

Every creature in the multiverse has a story to tell — even the monsters.

The cover of Uncaged volume 4 depicts a woman clutching her face. Her mouth is open and her eyes are bloodshot. Her black hair is strung across her face.

Uncaged is a collection of myth- and folklore-themed adventures written for Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition. Each original adventure subverts tropes around a female mythological creature or monster including hags, harpies, medusas, and much, much more.

Volume IV is available as both a digital file with a hardcover print version.

The digital edition of Volume IV includes:

  • Full-color, 218-page bookmarked, tagged PDF

  • ZIP file with printer-friendly versions of the modules

Hardcover Errata:

Maps accompanying Jesse Jordan's adventure were incorrectly credited to the wrong cartographer. The artist of those maps is Northern Cartography, @nor_cartography on Twitter. The PDF has been updated to correct this error.

Volume IV

16 original adventures for tiers 1-3. Each adventure features a creature, monster, or character from folklore, fairytales, myths, and legends. Cover art by Samantha Darcy.

Another excellent volume and I'm excited to run a bunch of these. I really like the Shield Maiden subclass and the new warlock patrons (so much flavor).

When looking at "The Lying, The Lich, and the Warzone" adventure, the author refers to "Appendix A" a few times but I can't find the content they refer to. Am I missing something?

I have been having the same problem, I cannot find that "Appendix A" content anywhere. Which is a bummer, I'd like to run that one for my group.

Heya! I'm planning on running the Frostmaiden module when that releases and would love to slot in some of these adventures. Are there any that are particularly suited to a winter-themed setting? If so, which volume? Thanks a lot!

Why the final volume? I've enjoyed these quite a bit. Is there any chance the physical option could disappear?

Hey Brett! Thanks for your kind words! We'll likely be making a 5th volume later this year that will contain all epic-level adventures (tier 4). These books take a LOT of work to produce. Although our team makes money from the cut of the sales, it's mostly a labor of love. It took us a full year and a half of working on these almost full-time as an independent team. Maybe in the future we'll do more, but four volumes was the plan from the beginning. :)

We don't anticipate the print version not being available in the future! We'll of course let you know if anything changes!

The link to Volume I in the product description (the image of Volume I) is wrong - both it and the Volume II image link to Volume II.

(You may also want to edit links to this volume (Volume IV) into the other product listings now that it's out.)

Under Medusae Traits, they have " nake Hair" (missing capital S).

Ah, I have a feeling I know how that happened. Thanks for the heads up! We'll get the file updated ASAP.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
