Welcome to an adventure in the Spies Below the Moonsea series of Underdark adventures! This adventure can be played as entirely stand-alone.

Spies Below the Moonsea Header Image

Content Warning: This adventure deals with the worshippers of a god of death. Some of these personages revere death, dying, and becoming undead. While these beliefs are fictional and are portrayed as evil, they are explored in some detail. An option to skip the main part of this content is available. Groups choosing to skip this adventure will not miss out on key developments in series.

New allies in the Underdark have emerged and are key to stopping drow slave-taking raids around the Moonsea. Now, one such ally has been assassinated and her body has been left to the most unpredictable and vile of Zethlentyn’s drow.

What depraved price will the worshippers of the dreaded death goddess Kiaransalee set for their assistance? Are the adventurers ready to pay it?

This is a 2- to 4-hour adventure for 5th to 10th level characters.

To aid your journey to death's doors, the following are included with the adventure:

  • Printable portrait cards with roleplaying tips for important NPCs
  • Reference Maps
  • Sights Below the Moonsea: A Guide to the Zethlentyn Protectorate - this short lore supplement is included with all Zethlentyn-related adventures.
About the Spies Below the Moonsea series

This series of adventures deals with the Zethlentyn Protectorate – a city-state in the Underdark. Adventures in this series can be played without knowledge of the others and in any order. This is the second adventure in the series. It features as self-contained story, though for ideal results it should be played at any point after House of Moonlight and prior to House of Webs.

Ties to the Swords Below the Moonsea saga

This series follows the three previous adventures of the bestselling Swords Below the Moonsea trilogy. While those adventures act as a prelude to this series,  absolutely no player or DM knowledge of them is required to play this one - it is a new series, with new characters and locations.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
