Hundelstone: A Storm King Thunder Quest

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This short adventure is meant to enhance a Storm King’s Thunder campaign in Chapter 3, expanding and adding detail to the quest Beldora gives to the party in Bryn Shander. As written, the quest is quite vague, and its primary goal seems to be making the party aware of the existence of the teleportation circles in Everlund. In this supplement, I develop the journey to Hundelstone to make the quest more interesting and engaging, as well as incorporate some foreshadowing to make the characters more aware of the overall plot of the Storm King Thunder adventure. The characters travel to Hundelstone through extreme weather conditions and have several encounters along the way. They then learn of giant activities at a local tavern (the Gnarled Gnome) from a colorful and somewhat self-absorbed gnome, meet with Thwip Ironbottom, an eccentric inventor and Harper, attempt to decode a secret letter, and take a short trip into the tunnels of Hundelstone to acquire a rare mushroom for the local alchemist. The coded message is a cry for help from the Storm Giant Serissa that serves to explain some of the backstory of the adventure, suggesting that they find Harshnag which provides some focus to the party’s future explorations in Chapter 3. Estimated playing time is 3-4 hours, and the adventure aims to provide a more richly detailed perspective on the quest and Hundelstone. Random encounters, maps, tavern menu, text boxes, artwork, and roleplaying advice are all provided. Note that the map of Hundelstone is included here, but it is also available separately. Although conceived for Storm King's Thunder, the Gnarled Gnome encounter could easily modified for other campaigns in the Icewind Dale vicinity (e.g., Rime of the Frostmaiden).

Hello. I purchased this a couple days ago -- am I also able to get the version with the name change to Mythrii? An anagram of her name is exactly what I need as I'm not revealing it until later in the campaign. My email is ryancgordon@gmail.com.

I read through this since I'm having my players in SKT starting in Bryn Shander and making their way south to Waterdeep. In our next session they will probably arrive in Hundelstone and I was wondering if you would be willing to change Iymrith's name to Mythrii in the coded message and send me the edited version. My email is jordan.gerke3@gmail.com.

Is there any way to get the letter as a separate handout for the players? I play online and would like to print them out, weather them, and then send them in the mail for my next session. Please and thank you. Also Great work on this one! really excited to run it.

Hi Derek. Do you mean a pdf with just the letter (pages 9 and 10)? I'm happy to help if I can, just give the specifics of what you need. Glad to hear you like it!

Just read through and this looks great. One question, is there any way to reword a small part of the decoded letter?

Thanks,

I was hoping to switch Iymirth’s name to Esgould if that is at all possible. Hoping to hide her name.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris. I put together one that replaces Iymrith to Esgould. Probably easiest just to email it to you, if you want to share your email address.

I've had a read through the material and it's a pleasant surprise. The only thing I think that might also be quite useful is a small map of town, that I could give to the players as a handout. I love the flavour texts and I'll 100% use them (modifying, though, as the party will be approaching Hundlestone at level 1 while on their way towards Bryn Shander - remake of Chapter 1)

Still, nice material to work with!

I have now created a map of Hundelstone and added it to this product. It is also available separately.

My first adventure, this was game-tested and was lots of fun. Lots of laughter among the players during the Gnarled Gnome interactions. Would love constructive feedback.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
