Hoard of the Dragon Queen Token Pack for Episodes 1, 2 & 3

After years of being a DM, we realized that the ‘theatre of the mind’ style of table-top gaming was great - when you were telling a story.  Unfortunately, it fell short when running a combat situation…

There was a near-constant miscommunication between what the DM was describing to what the Players heard.  Or when the DM is trying to convey a harrowing scene where the Players are doomed if they rush into the encounter… without fail someone would say “it doesn’t seem that bad to me…” and rush right in.

Then Wizards of the Coast started producing tokens with some of their boxed sets, and we quickly realized that having a physical representation cleared up so much confusion!

Of course, miniatures have been out for a long time, and who can argue that when it comes to high-quality representation NOTHING beats having every monster, every character, and every prop represented by a mini.

But that leads to a new problem…

When we started looking at the new 5th Edition modules we were quickly overwhelmed by the number of minis we’d need to play the adventure properly.  Hoard of the Dragon Queen has over 200 possible monsters in a single encounter by itself!

So, how’s a DM supposed to properly represent all those enemies?

Certainly, there are some DMs who have spent thousands of dollars on buying a mini for every monster type… but we crunched the numbers and even if you take just the MINIMAL number of monsters needed Horde of the Dragon Queen has 358 unique monster minis needed just to play ONE adventure.

That was a complete shock!

We knew we wanted a physical representation to clarify the encounter, and we knew we didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars every time we wanted to run a new Official module…

That’s when the solution became clear.  We’d have to take a page out of the Wizards of the Coast playbook and create Monster and Character tokens to properly represent each encounter without breaking the bank.

So that’s what we did… Over 30 hours of token planning and design to bring you professionally illustrated monster and NPC tokens for Horde of the Dragon Queen.  Each image comes from the official Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual, or from the professional artistry of Jiwon Lee.

After making the set for our own play and discovering how easy the tokens made visualizing the combat situations the PC’s were in, we realized that there were a lot of other gamers who were suffering from what we call “pocket lint encounters…”

That’s where you use random objects from your pocket, your table, or from around the house to represent your NPC’s and Monsters on the encounter map.

But you don’t have to be a pocket lint DM anymore!  We’ve created the complete collection of monster tokens for the “First Chapter” of Horde of the Dragon Queen so you’ll never have to use random junk, including the lint in your pocket, to properly represent your encounters again!

We’ve packaged up the complete collection 150 NPC and monster tokens to represent every encounter in the first chapter for you.

So if you’re looking for amazing quality tokens, complete with professionally rendered art, official representations from the D&D Monster Manual, all crafted to be the right small, medium or large representation on your encounter map, then this is it!

Here’s what you’re going to get when you grab your copy of the Horde of the Dragon Queen Episode 1, 2 and 3 Tokens:

Is there a version without the labels on the pictures ? Those are incredibly ugly, from the font to the angled placement..

Hey Fares.

We appreciate the feedback. Currently, there is just the one version.

While this is a great idea, I am sure you can't sell art ripped from the official D&D products. This will be violation of the DMsGuild rules around IP. Just an FYI.

Hey Badger,

To clarify, did you not get an email when you signed up for the bonuses?
Customer avatar
Badger B January 09, 2020 10:17 pm UTC
No. However, I did receive an email several hours later saying I would receive an email the next day.

As I am in the uk its hard to know if the next day has happened yet in the states [or your location].

That said it has been 30 hours.

Hey Badger,

I'm not sure what the confusion is. In our emails to everyone who has signed up for our bonuses, we've outlined from day 1 that we were finishing up and releasing the bonuses as a work in progress. We have released some of the bonuses and will continue to do so until we have produced and delivered them all.
In regards to the token pack - the product that you purchased - it should be downloadable to you from

If you feel that we have been insufficient in follow through with our offer, in this case the time frame in which we are producing and delivering our bonuses, I understand and invite you to seek a refund from DMSguild, should you wish.

You can contact OneBookShelf (DMsGuild) here:

If you wish to email us at Straight to Game directly, please use this email:

Good gaming to you.

Original electronic
Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
