A Tale of Two Dragons: Phandalin Adventures Tier 2 Conversions

ADD TO WISHLIST >

If you've ever wanted to play Lost Mine Of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak back to back as one long Phandalin campaign, this conversion guide is for you.

What Is This?

This guide converts Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak to Tier 2 (levels 5 to 10). That way you can play these two adventures back to back in either order using the same characters.

What Do I Need?

To use this guide, you must have a copy of both Lost Mine of Phandelver from the D&D Starter Set and Dragon of Icespire Peak from the D&D Essentials Kit. This guide does not make sense without them. You also need a copy of the Monster Manual since many of the creatures in this book draw from that sourcebook.

Why Buy This?

In other words, if you have finished running Lost Mine of Phandelver or Dragon of Icespire Peak and wish to continue your adventures in Phandalin right where you left off with the same characters, this guide is for you. The end effect will be a 1st- to 11th-level campaign set in the frontier town of Phandalin.

Just to confirm, I run either LMoP or DoIP, and then use the opposite guide to continue on? I have already bought your product and own both LMoP and DoIP but have yet to start either campaign. We start in a few weeks and I want to make sure I understand your guide properly

Hi, question for creator. We are going to finish our LMOP campaign soon. I quite homebrewed some things and PC's are going to end the story at 7th level. Will your module help me to run continue to that campaign up from 7th level?

Yes, that's exactly what it'll do. In just the full-size preview, you'll find everything you need to make Dragon of Icespire Peak an adventure for levels 5 to 11. Most folks who run LMoP end at level 5 or 6. Some of it might feel easy if you're already at 7th level, but the rest should be just right.

Just a query, i'm very interested in this product. I would be running it off the back of Dragons of Stormwreck Isle however some of my players 'retired PC's' ran the first dungeon of Phandelver. Is it possible to somehow deliver those hooks and skip them past the prologue just as a general inquiry? As i'd love to run the full thing post DoSI as a 5-10 campaign. As I've written this I've realised I could also possibly turn the 'prologue' into a short more call and response game where we quickly blast through it to get the new PC's all up to date. :)

Yes, it's possible to run Lost Mine of Phandelver as a 5-9 campaign. I hope that answers your question!

I bought this on my old account and just wish I could give you a proper review but cannot get back into it for some reason. Once I can I will leave a review. LMOP and DOIP are great already but these guides really helped me change up the adventures when combining the modules.

Any change that you'll be producing a similar guide to the follow on adventures from Dragon of Icespire Peak? Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, and Divine Contention. I'm running players through Dragon of Icespire Peak as a tier 2 after they finished Lost Mines as tier 1. Scaling up these three adventures could take the three short campaigns into most of 1 level 1-20 long campaign.

Please make a guide like this for Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, and Divine Contention. This guide is awesome, btw! I ran LMOP first, and now I'm running DOIP using your guide. I know this guide isn't for Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, or Divine Contention. But it would be amazing if you could make one for them. I'd buy them FOR SURE! Thanks!

If you've already run DOIP, will this allow my players to continue on with LMOP progressing from level 5?

Yes, when you purchase, there are two files. The first makes it possible to run DoIP right where LMoP left off. The second is for running LMoP when DoIP left off.

What about the digital-only follow-ons - Beyond the Dragon of Icespire Peak?
(Storm Lord's Wrath, Sleeping Dragon's Wake, Divine Contention)

These were included in the Essentials box, as a DnDBeyond code. Together with DOIP, they take you to 12th level.

TL/DR - This is a wonderful product, and even though it is a back-to-back combining of the two adventures, that doesn't mean you cannot intermingle or entwine them USING this product. Some of my ideas are below.

Just purchased this product. It hasn't been 24 hours yet, so I cannot yet review it, but from the brief skim it's going to help fill out a LOT of balance problems from combining these two adventures. One thing that I have read from one of the reviews is that the product is set up to play back-to-back and does not combine them and I am here to say that you can STILL combine them. Just takes a little creative work. Here are some of my notes and thoughts:

1. I have run DOIP a few times for my kids and group of friends. I always like to start with the PCs seeing Cyrovain flying overhead. It quickly and subtly establishes that Cryovain is the BBEG of the mini-campaign.

2. The opening quest I start with is with the Manticore encounter. It is strong enough for LV1 PCs to...See more

I'm running LMoP on Fantasy Grounds for my friends in lockdown right now, and when I discovered this adventure was also in Phandalin I was excited...until I saw the levels for the encounters and realised that I probably wouldn't be able to run them together. This product and your review have given me a tonne of ideas on how to do that now. Thanks!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
