Hi Thomas, thank you so much for your interest, but unfortunately the book would need to be entirely redone in print layout with all new art, and that's not within my budget. Apologies!

Hello, the "manifest function" ability of for each type of eilodon says it can be used once.

Is that once ever? Once per long rest? Once per manifestation of project eilodon? If the latter, how does that interact with the sustained eilodon power?

Last year you mentioned maybe putting up an Errata pdf. Is there one available yet? Is it in the works?

Thanks!

Hi Sean,

Once per casting, until you gain the Sustained Eidolon feature, which says this in it's last sentence:

"It also regains a single expended use of the action granted to it by your Manifest Function feature after finishing a long rest."

As for the errata pdf, I'm afraid I don't have any further plans to update this product. I've put my Guild projects on hold until the new core rules are released, and I'll be doing a sweep of updates or re-releases after the new core rulebooks are published.

I found power surge and sublime power. Disregard #2 below. I had to read through the comments to find out about them. It seams both features caused issues with many. I am sympathetic to how edits mess up formatting. And the next edit both need to be clarified. If not reworked. Likely clearing up how manifesting works above 10pp in both the manifesting chapter (starting on page 57), and early in the classes. Also something like the overchannel and expanded knowledge feats should be added as feats. One thing that was great in most editions of psionics is most could get overchannel and expanded knowledge. I understand you have a feature on the psion called "expanded knowledge", but that is psion only. There is a feat in your book which adds some powers, but only talents and a 1st level. With no way to get anything higher or unlisted talents.

One of the best parts of the psionic system is its transformative nature. You can put the equivalent of bard spells on a druid like manifester, or give...See more

I love your book. I have played psionics in 2e, 3.0, 3.5 and Pathfinder. But have searched for years for a 5e version. I seams balanced for the system. I also have a few questions:

1) Where is Dispel Psionics, or its equivalent? Is there a counter spell or like?

2) In older editions the First Law of Psionics was: You cannot put more power points in a power than your manifester level. In your book I thought this was the “Psi Limit”. The text seams to state such (specifically top of page 57). However, when you look at the classes their Psi Limit maximum is “10”. How can you spend 17 pp on a 9th level augment, when your max is 10?

The Second Law of Psionics was: A manifestation can only have one source. For example two creatures cannot both cast the same spell, or a manifester cannot mix with an items manifestation. This law was mostly there to stop broken things. The only oddity was the old Metaconcert power, which still had a conductor.

3) Why no Athanatism...See more

One of my players grabbed your Primer and is playing a shaper.. Looking at the psion shaper.. It seems as written that if you have your eidelon projected/manifested you cant use any talents or augments. Is that the intent, and if so, what do you envision the psion doing during combat besides hiding/taking cover? Is there something I'm missing

Hi Ric! Thanks for your question

You are partially correct, until level 6, an eidolon disappears if you switch focus to another talent, and you can't use other powers that augment it's talent. It also takes your action to command the eidolon, so that is using up most of your action economy. As for what else your shaper should be doing, staying out of harms way while their eidolon wrecks house seems like a good idea.

Starting at level 6, you get the Sustained Eidolon subclass feature, which makes the eidolon summon more or less permanent, and you can now switch focus to other talents, freeing you up to use other powers with your reaction and bonus action (or to sacrifice commanding your eidolon for a turn to use your action manifesting a power). At level 11, you get Emancipated Eidolon, which makes controlling at a bonus action instead of an action, freeing up your action economy and power arsenal even more.

Essentially, it is designed such that at early levels, the eidolon...See more

My apologies if this has been asked before. Looking at the Empath Mystic auras, the way they are worded seems to imply that the Mystic does not benefit from them. Are they intended to only buff allies, or should the Mystic receive the bonuses as well?

Hi Nathan,

The RAW is a bit ambiguous because the question of "do you count as your own ally" seems to change from edition to edition, but the intent is auras only help other creatures, not the mystic. However, if your sense of RAF (Rules as Fun) leads you to a different interpretation, I don't think it would be especially unbalancing. The intent is more based on flavor than balance. The idea is that the mystic is like a coach, helping others achieve their best

I am using this for my 5e Dark Sun campaign and have been mostly very happy with it. One of my players is a Psion Dominator and the versatility they bring is very cool. However they just hit level 8 and used their off-class power selection from Psion to get Metamorphosis, and it seems INSANELY powerful relative to other similar effects like druidic wildshape and summon monster spells.

At level 8, for 5-spi points (which is roughly the equivalent of a 1st level spell slot for a full caster class like a wizard or cleric) you can turn into a beast with CR Level 8 for a full hour?? Likely netting you over 100 hit points and a multi-attack that could deal 20-60 damage each turn? A Psion has enough psi-points to use this for basically every fight and have more than enough to spare for damage/utility powers and small cantrips.

I feel like this should cost 5 psi-points for up to CR2, and then you have to pay another 2-5 for every CR past that.

Am I missing something?

Hi William.

5-6 psipoints is the equivalent of a 3rd level spell slot, not 1st, which is why the power is listed as a 3rd level power.

This effect is similar to the Polymorph spell, which is a 4th level spell, with the major caveat that you cannot cast it on another target, only yourself. You could argue that the polymorph spell is most effective when used as a buff, and not to take an enemy out of a fight by turning them into something harmless, but even then 4th-level Polymorph is still more useful because you can cast it on allies. Note that both Metamorphosis and Polymorph have the same level=CR limit, and the caster does not get to act again on the turn they transform.

Additionally, while the psion is Metamorphed, it can't use other powers, relegating any utility powers to out-of-combat effects.

Finally, the power is concentration, meaning it is possible to knock the psion out of giant ape or T-Rex form with enough repeated Concentration saves. If they...See more

Thank you for your reply (genuinely)! Those details put it more into context. Follow-up question: For augments that have a fixed duration like Mind Blast (stun for up to 1 minute) but are *not* concentration augments, does that stun persist if the psion changes their focus to another cantrip, or if they cast another augment for mind thrust?

Glad to help! Durations of Augments stay in place even if you switch Focus, and if they are not Concentration, then they stay even when manifesting another augment of the same or different talent.

Hi, i have some questions. it says it takes no action to drop focus on a talent - but does it take an action to focus on a new one? I'm playing a mystic empath, and when my party is in trouble, I focus on autonomous vitality. but if i can only switch powers once on my turn, i'm stuck as the healer (for the reaction healing outside of my turn), and can't attack with my other powers or do anything with my bonus action all combat. Is that correct? Or can i freely switch my talent and start my turn, switch to mindblade, give myself advantage with energy blade, attack, then switch back to healing for outside of my turn?

My other question is, are all my auras only for the others?

Hi Garret,

Talents are cantrip spells with a casting time of 1 bonus action and a duration of Focus. So yes it requires a bonus action to begin focusing on a talent, since you can only focus on one after you cast it.

One thing you may have missed was the paragraph on augments with a reaction cast time:

Reactions. Several psionic augments have manifesting times of 1 reaction, but no accompanying trigger. You may use your reaction to manifest these augments at any time you wish, as long are you are focusing on the appropriate talent. If timing isn’t specified, you cannot react to another creature’s action before that action takes place, only afterward. As normal, you regain your reaction at the start of your next turn.

The meaning of is this that you can use these reactions even on your turn. That way, it is possible to juggle your healing and action, somewhat. If you start your turn focusing on Mindblade, you can make a mindblade attack with your Action, then...See more

I Love this! I was going over this with one of my players recently and have 2 questions:
1) Are there any other resources of yours that add additional Talents/Augments/Subclasses? if not that's fine but I figured I'd ask.
2) have you considered making this available for print-on-demand? I'd love to get a physical copy of this but I'm not sure I could have it printed and it still look ok...

1) Not to my knowledge, but it would be really cool if other DMsGuild creators picked up the system and ran with it!
2) Unfortunately no, I don't have the resources to go back and redesign the entire book's layout for print. Sorry about that! But consider this my "Permission granted to print for personal use".

Hello, I have another question about clarification.
If I have the Quori Atavist Du'ulora feat. It says I can only deal fire damage with the Energy Ray talent - does that apply to augments of talents as well, or only when using the talent's own attack?

Only the talent. If you have access to Augmentations you've developed your psionic talents to be broader than just what your spirit provides.

In the Psionic Savant feat it lists "energy beam" as one of the talents you can learn.
The only reference to that I could find was one of the Lesser Eidolon abilities.
I'm assuming that should probably be the "energy ray" talent instead.

Sorry to keep point out errors, I'm really enjoying the book and only hoping to make it better if/when an update is released.
Are there any plans to release a physical print?
I'd love to have a copy on my shelf with the rest of my references (after errors corrected, of course.)

Hi Sean!

I don't currently have any plans to update Psion's Primer, as my focus is on a new project I'm working on right now, but I appreciate the comments! Inevitably things will slip through editing, especially self-referential rules text like this, so it's nice to be able to set the record straight when one is found. Yes, the Psionic Savant feat should reference the Energy Ray talent.

As for a physical copy, I'm afraid that would be unfeasible at this point. The book's layout was done in Word, which is not conducive to actual print layout, so I would need to invest time and resources on redoing the entire book's layout in a print format. Unfortunately that is beyond my means.

It's disappointing there won't be an update.
I was hoping it would be a trivial thing to push out a new pdf.
But I've never published through DMG; I'm guessing it's not so easy now.

But, lacking an update, do you have, or are you willing to create a consolidated Errata doc?
If so, can you post a link to it?

And one more question - how would Energy Ray (and any augments) work with the Elemental Adept feat when the damage types coincide?
Or even more powerfully (potentially) the Relentless Energy ability of Shaper Psions?
If I use relentless energy to make my fire-specialized energy ray treat immunity as resistance would the Elemental Adept of fire then ignore that?

The Ardent and Relentless abilitites were explicitly stated to not work together; but as written, I think it makes sense the ability and the feat could go together. From a balance perspective though maybe they shouldn't. Since you specifically forbade Ardent and Relentless I think...See more

Sorry to disappoint, Sean! It is unfortunately a little bit more involved than just typing in some new corrections. To pull back the curtain a bit, sometimes edits can cause cascading layout adjustments if changing the text causes paragraphs or lines to shift between pages. Also laying out the PDF with hyperlinks is a manual process for me, as any automated bookmarking I've tried doesn't produce results I find useful. So it can be a pretty big timesink for a few small corrections that I can easily clear up here.

That being said, if there is a kind of "critical mass" of corrections that need to be made, I may change my mind. So there's no plans for an update right NOW, but that doesn't mean there will never be one.

What I can do now is listen to your suggestion and add a very simple errata PDF alongside the book as a separate file, so you and any other customers can download it from your Library and see it all in one place. I'll work on getting that out soon.

I was wondering on the Adamant and Lurk, why the Battle Trance and True Shot talents were mandated for each subclass?
While I can certainly understand why some (many) might "want" those particular talents, it seems odd that every Adamant must be a melee psionic user (at least a little bit) and every Lurk must be a psionic archer (or other ranged weapon).

I'll let my players ignore those mandates when I'm DMing but I was curious if there was a design reason I'm not considering that make them mandates instead of choices.

Your houserule is perfectly fine. The reason these subclasses are mandated is more flavor than anything else. Like why the Paladin can't smite with an unarmed strike. Nothing will break the game if you let paladins do a holy punch, it just isn't the assumed flavor of the class. The Adamant is meant to be a stalwart frontline wall of strength and willpower, and the Lurk is meant to be a shadowy assassin that kills at range. But if you want to allow your players the freedom to be something else, it won't break the system. Go for it!

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
